  1. Almost like a cameo appearance only much more subtle and sophisticated. indy4 - who doesn't think the prequel movies are THAT bad
  2. Yes...as I get more and more used to a score, I care less over whether it fits the movie or not. That rendition of the Imperial March is SO PERFECT, SO WONDERFUL, who cares if it's out of context? It still sounds great! And I don't think it is out of context...I mean, it's foreshadowing that the clones will become stormtroopers eventually..symbolising the fall of the Old Republic, and the beginning of the FIRST GALACTIC EMPIRE!
  3. Not sure I own any CDs that are the "perfect" release, as it's defined.
  4. First, let me say that JW is not going to die anytime soon. He has said several times that he is enjoying good health. And if that were a lie, he probably wouldn't still be composing. JW is a great as he has ever been, and he will continue this for another happy decade, at least. 2. While not as good as JW, we have many new composers to look forward to! Danny Elfman and Howard Shore are still capable of working! Hans Zimmer (though you may not like him) is also still capable. Giachino, JNH, and then the hundreds of new composers waiting to be discovered! 3. When the maestro does pass away, while saddened we will be, there are still all his currently unreleased material that will probably be released sometime in the future. (such as JG's, The Burbs). Then there is all his old stuff that I don't own (Not sure if anyone here owns every complete JW soundtrack to date). I am not saying at all that JW's death will not be sad. But instead of mourning over something that hasn't even happened yet, let us rejoice for the joy and hapiness JW is continuing to give to us!
  5. Agreed! THEN THE BEST PART! 2:07! The melody is simply let loose, as if the chamber is opened and havoc is wreaked inside, with the string melody awkwardly displaced by a quaver, undercut by that marvellous pulsating like the middle section of "NBC News - The Mission" theme. I agree. I love 2:07, it's my favorite part as well. Sounds almost like something that would be in a trailer for Corpse Bride, or something. Best part of Fawkes the Phoenix: 1:22
  6. They'll have to release at least one of the complete prequel scores...I mean, they've already finished AOTC, there's just no way they could keep something like that locked up...even if it takes several decades...SOMETHING worthwhile will be eventually released.
  7. HORAH! The truth if revealed! Thanks to KingMark! "That night I actually called John and told him I was sending the music police to confiscate his pencil! I think he just couldn't stop writing." -Williams Ross That isn't corny at all....
  8. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gPIiJsJeexQ Video of the main titles to Daddy-O. I had no idea the music was so fantastic! I knew it would probably be good, but this is really an incredibly catchy tune.
  9. I don't really mind Horner's reusing, because if you mix it in with all the other music you have, not that much of it is Horner-ised. Just think of all of JH's scores as one big soundtrack.
  10. said the man with the avatar with the grossest looking human on earth. don't FUCK, with my Abbott and Costello Tensions running high in the General Topics...
  11. It wasn't in Room of Requirements or Dumbledore's Army, but it was slightly similiar to Dumbledor'es Army, but not much.
  12. I like both- Assuming the silver age is about 1970 - the 1990s. Most of my favorite works lie between those years. Almost all of my (IMO) good CDs from that era, however, are by JW. However, there is the ocassional ST:TMP, Vertigo, ST2:WoK, several Elfman scores, a few Silvestri scores, and several others. However, I have found a liking to some of the more modern music. For instance, my all time favorite score is PoA, from 2004. I also like almost all of JW's new pieces, as much as I like his old (w/ the exception of WotW and Minority Report). I do admit to liking some modern music, even by Hans Zimmer--for instance, I like Lion King, POTC, and Da Vinci Code. What is starting to annoy me is how many composers out there are trying to copy Zimmer's work. It just gets repetitive after a while, and none of them can pull it off quite like Zimmer can! MOdern Action movie scores like Bourne Ultimatum I can't stand. Overall, I love music from the Silver Age. I also love modern music, as long as it has beauty, art, or just plain good music! Hans Zimmer's great--it's the wannabe's I stay away from. He can create fun action pieces--they go into a film thinking if the music is loud, it's good. I think modern music can be just as good as music from the Silver Age, as long as the composer is using original, good ideas. I think the problem is that some of the most popular movies require either a loud, obnoxious score, or for whatever reason, the director thinks the film needs a loud, obnoxious score. Some examples of modern music beauties, that I think are just as good as Silver Ages scores: 1.Harry Potters 2. The Terminal 3. The Lost World 4. POTC 5. Da Vinci 6. Lion King 7. Lord of the Rings 8. Charlie/Chocolate factory 9. CMIYC 10. Home Alone 1 and 2 11. Forrest Gump 12. Mousehunt the list continues on and on... I think there's plenty of good music being created nowadays, it just may be a little harder to find it.
  13. That's the point that some people seem to be looking over. Ray Barnsbury - who thinks it's one of the more enjoyable moments of the score Yeah...everyone should realize that it wasn't Hooper's fault the scene was pictured like that, it was Yates. Indy4 - who still thinks Yates did a great job in filming the best Potter movie so far.
  14. If you haven't been here from the time this topic was created, it can be a lot to read. Perhaps I should print out the "What Was the Last Film You Watched?" topic and read it in my spare time.
  15. Yeah, that would be great! It really is a shame JW didn't stay for all the films--it would him a job, which he hasn't had for several years now, and it would be great music, and if these films are historic, such as the Star Wars Saga or the Indiana Jones Adventures, it would let him say he was able to do all of them. Let's just hope he continues to enjoy excellent health, so he can wow us many more times.
  16. I really like the POTC scores. They're unoriginal, and I could understand why some would hate them. I, however, treasure them. Especially the last one.
  17. Vertigo is a great score, my favorite by Herrmann (although I only have that and Psycho). Some of it seems tiresome and/or repeating, but it's worth it for Scene d'amour, Prelude and Rooftop Chase, the necklace the return and the finale, and carlotta's portrait.
  18. I'm confused....it seems to me that Henry Buck and Blumenkohl are saying the same things. What's the problem?
  19. Incorrect! Zimmer has had an impact, yes. Zimmer is a good composer (IMO),yes. But Zimmer has NOT had nearly as big as an impact as JW!!! I mean, I've seen countless shows, where they parody the music from Jaws, even if the music has nothing to do with underwater. Same with E.T., Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Superman, and all of them contained music similiar to JW's scores. Have you ever heard a music from POTC parodied? Or Lion King? Or M-I:2? The only music in the world that's as popular to the general public as JW's is Henry Mancini's Pink Panther, John Barry's James Bond, and Bernard Herrmann's Psycho.
