Man, how can you not like "Arrival in New York"? Dang, man, it's fantastic! When I'm listening to a score, I tend to not worry about how well it matched with the film. If it did, great, but I'm more concerned about whether or not it's enjoyable music.
It's a really fun score. John Williams doing grand, lively, fun music. What's so bad about that?
Arrival in New York is the best cue from the OST.

It may have been discussed before but I did a search on it and the search engine kept saying I was inserting a word such as html or img but oh well.
If you type in words that are less than for letters, you get that message. That elimanates "War," "Of," and "the".

- Blumenkohl, who considers Prisoner of Azkaban above RotK
I agree--PoA is my favorite score.
-
As long as I can hear clearly the music, I don't mind.
And another observation: Your whipping smiley face was in rythmn w/ Up is Down for a few seconds

-
From 2:23 to the end of "Up is Down" (POTC: At World's End) could have been more evaluated. I really wish it kept that that three note pattern...that would have made a magnificent piece of music even better.
-
I don't care AT ALL about sound quality. The only thing I'm looking for is unreleased cues. I couldn't care less for sound quality. Is it still worth it for only the unrelease cues?
-
Planet of the Apes is totally unlistenable on it's own
I agree.
-
Furthermore, I belive that LOTR are better than several JW scores, but worse than a lot, too.
I'll agree to
Furthermore, I belive that LOTR are better than some JW scores, but worse than a lot, too.
Okay...fair enough. We both think JW is better than Shore. We've made peace.

-
I'm sure some will agree here.
As you notice I'm not completely trashing the LotR scores.I do listen to the OST's from time to time. But I do believe they are vastly overrated by people who tend to be really into Tolkien stuff and LotR
I cannot deny (and I don't want to) that JW is much, much, much better than Shore.
You cannot deny that LOTR scores are great, and go excellently w/ the films.
Furthermore, I belive that LOTR are better than several JW scores, but worse than a lot, too.
All in all, JW is easily the better composer by far, but Shore's efforts on LOTR cannot go unnoticed by AFI.

I knew it:I was just saying that because I think Planet of the Apes didn't deserve to be on any good scores lists. I knew I'd have a ton of JG fans killing me.In truth, there really isn't any JG score I'd want on that list.

-
They should just realize that no matter what, there WILL be mistakes and bias.
-
I'm perfectly able to tell when themes are great. There are no great themes in LotR,only a few good ones.
SHAME ON YOU!
OotP has no real themes.SHAME ON YOU!

-
The omission of TMP is much more heinous than the omission of LotR.
I was just saying that because I think Planet of the Apes didn't deserve to be on any good scores lists. I knew I'd have a ton of JG fans killing me, so I said TMP would be sufficient. In truth, there really isn't any JG score I'd want on that list.
-
LOTR, while not as good as many JW scores, DEFENETLY deseved to be on that list.
-
Richard Marquand directed RotJ.

Here's what AFI has to say:
1. Star Wars
2. Gone With The Wind
3. Lawrence Of Arabia
4. Psycho
5. The Godfather
6. Jaws
7. Laura
8. The Magnificent Seven
9. Chinatown
10. High Noon
11. The Adventures Of Robin Hood
12. Vertigo
13. King Kong
14. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
15. Out Of Africa
16. Sunset Boulevard
17. To Kill A Mockingbird
18. Planet Of The Apes
19. A Streetcar Named Desire
20. The Pink Panther
21. Ben-Hur
22. On The Waterfront
23. The Mission
24. On Golden Pond
25. How The West Was Won
Planet of the Apes does not deserve to be on that list. STTMP would make more sense.

Jaws is a nice score, but for me, it isn't the best score to listen to outside of the movie. At least Jaws 2 made it!
-
I think it fits the movie perfectly, and some cues are nice, but overall, it's my least favorite JW score.
-
No it's just intelligent and cultured to have varied taste...rather than tying yourself to one man and equating him to a god, claiming he can do no wrong and none can surpass him, claiming all others write music for retards.
I completely agree. But someone happening to prefer a Williams score to another composer's doesn't equate with that. At times it seems like someone can't say something like "I want John Williams to come back to the Harry Potter series because I enjoy his scores more than the others" without someone screaming "FANBOY!!!! BLIND DEVOTISM!!!! DOYLE'S THEMES WERE SO GREAT AND YOU REFUSE TO SEE THAT BECAUSE YOU THINK WILLIAMS IS A GOD!!!" Or implying something along those lines.
Ray Barnsbury
You want JW back for HP?? FANBOY!!!! BLIND DEVOTISM!!!! DOYLE'S THEMES WERE SO GREAT AND YOU REFUSE TO SEE THAT BECAUSE YOU THINK WILLIAMS IS A GOD!!! (just kidding--I want him back too)

-
I already own the soundtracks to Home Alone and Home Alone 2 (not the expanded edition). Anybody know if it's worth getting if I already have the OS?
-
Agreed. I actually wouldn't have any desire to purchase a previously signed JW autograph...it was written for someone else!
Ray Barnsbury
I wrote to his agents, and almost a year later, I recieved a signed photo and a Q and A about JW.

6. 1941 - John Williams
Interesting choice.
If it weren't for Swing, Swing, Swing, 1941 would probably not even be on that list.
-
Lucas seems to be trying to draw from his past sucesses recently...
*His* successes? Wasn't Steven Spielberg involved somewhere in Indiana Jones?
Yes, but him and Spielberg have always gotten equal credit. Same for SW. He didn't direct ESB and ROTJ, but have you ever heard anybody credting Richard Marquand or Irvin Kershner for SW?

Could anybody post these? I bought the Japanese CD, so I can't read any of the liner notes. Thanks!
