indy4 reacted to Andy in The Force Awakens SPOILERS ALLOWED Discussion Thread
You knew as soon as he went out onto the bridge that it was over for him.
I blame Chewie. It was his idea to set the charges on separate levels.

well, maybe the lightsaber pierced through his body, but hit non vital organs and cauterized the wound, then he landed on pillows ...and survived

Han should've cut the long bridge with a Thuggee machete. That woulda fixed Kylo Ren but good.

indy4 got a reaction from Cerebral Cortex in Star Wars Prequel Music General Discussion
Can we all acknowledge how awesome the last 30 seconds or so of "Jango's Escape" is? Weirdly medieval, but so great.

indy4 reacted to Thor in Why does JW never perform Harry Potter?
The big question is -- why does John Williams never perform anything from JOHN GOLDFARB, PLEASE COME HOME? It's an outrage, I tell ya. An OUTRAGE!
-
indy4 reacted to Thor in Williams was attached to score Brian De Palma's Mission Impossible?
Williams is still sore after Desilu picked up M:I in favour of NIGHTWATCH, I'm sure!
In all seriousness, I still can't believe Williams was approached for this, but what do I know?

Just the JW ones

Seems like only John Williams knows how to use John Williams themes. I am reminded of this Don Davis quote whenever I hear a failed/awkward take on material like this:

Classic Williams method of transforming and extending an existing musical snippet into something else.

indy4 reacted to Thor in Anecdotes about John Williams
I'm sure indy4 was joking. That is probably the most-mentioned anecdote that Williams and Spielberg pull out from their bag of tricks -- along with the simplicity of the JAWS theme, the many permutations of the CE3K theme, the cutting-to-music part of the E.T. finale etc.

indy4 reacted to BloodBoal in Expanded Harry Potter albums in the works?
What we need is a dialogue version of Hedwig's Theme.

indy4 reacted to Unlucky Bastard in London or Los Angeles for Star Wars VII score? [UPDATE: It's Los Angeles]
They've got a two-day head start, which is more than they need. LA musicians have friends in every town and county from here to Culver City. They play a dozen idioms, know every local style. They'll blend in, disappear, you'll never hear then again. With any luck, they've recorded the score already.

indy4 got a reaction from Jacck in London or Los Angeles for Star Wars VII score? [UPDATE: It's Los Angeles]
Nope, I don't think the LA musicians are any less talented. But I do think that an ensemble as a whole benefits from repeatedly rehearsing with the same members, in the same room, etc. A good orchestra should be more than the sum of its parts.

indy4 got a reaction from Incanus in Conversations - New Chamber (piano solo) by John Williams
I was lucky enough to attend the concert for this last night. Really great event. Unfortunately JW wasn't able to make it - Gloria said he was "busy writing Star Wars 7" or something to that effect. Neither was Desplat, whose arriving Saturday for the Oscars. But all the other composers were there, and they very graciously met with all the fans.
We also saw the premiere of the (rough cut) of the video. It's about 30-40 minutes long, and a really cool look into the process.
