Honestly, you're probably the only one who notices or cares.

From my experience, it's simply because of person to person word of mouth. I don't have social media, but most of the people I know who do use the typical social medias, don't even know it exists or have just heard the name. I saw it today with a friend, and she only knew it because I recommended it, and she basically lives on social media.
 
The guy checking our tickets today was telling everyone who he checked that they should see it and that those that were seeing it are going to love it.
 
Obsession has truly reached a cultural moment.
 
But let's be honest and happy that the reason why it's so popular is because it's a brilliant film. 
 
 
And it's very encouraging that a film that intelligently studies human morals and explores deep dark ideas, is this popular. 
 
Obsession is a slow film. It takes its time. It's calm and careful with its direction. The camera barely moves, there's long one shots of entire rich dialogue scenes, like a stage play. There's no frantic cuts, no wall to wall music, no cluttered frames etc. This film rewards a patient viewer and tests the audience's attention span in the age of constant gratification and digital stimulation.
 
As you can tell, I think Obsession is a special film, and I'm so happy that something of pure artistic value is this mainstream.

Going to the movies, alone, is a liberating experience. You don't need to let anyone know you are going to the bathroom, need more soda, express your ABSOLUTELY WARRENTED opinions of wether or not you're going to see that movie when it comes out based on the trailer, and based on your vocal expressions. Not limited to, and not excluding but your ability to be unable to process the last 5 minutes and need me to explain, in great detail, the last conversation because you were too busy on your phone.
 
seeing movies alone is right up there with doing ANYTHING alone.
 

People do keep a look out for loners and make an effort to snicker at them and make them feel unwelcome in cinemas. You're in that auditorium and about a hundred people are all staring at you, like in those Smile movies. And you're there screaming at them "STOP LOOKING AT MEEEE!!!"
 
Even the staff are plotting against you. All of these people are conspiring and collaborating together to ensure you're publicly exposed as the loser that you really are because you thought you could get away with entering the premises unaccompanied. Cinemas are for socialising, like a night club, nothing else!
 
They should hire bouncers to keep out the loner riff-raff.

It must be blowing up on social media, and people are now going to see it just so they don't feel left out of the current "it" thing...
