Cool.  Kind of weird, but cool.  Sounds like some sort of secret society in the vein of Eyes Wide Shut, but without the youthful nudity.

Well, if you ask me about the score of the year, it's this one:

It plays like old school film music, actually more like classical music with large atonal parts and more extended harmony parts resembling Mahler (maybe?) or other composers (who???)..
Please give it a listen (I mean all of you jwfanners) , and tell me your thoughts in the appropriate thread. I would be really curious to know...
I was very surprised when I listened to it, about how good it is! There is no contest with any other film score of the year.
I don't know how it plays to picture though...

JWFan was born 25 years ago today!

Hard to imagine back then that the site would still be up and running two and a half decades later, let alone that the Maestro would still be active after having composed nearly thirty more film scores and a similar number of concert works, as well as conducting over 200 concerts including Vienna, Berlin, Milan and Japan!

Dozens of his film scores have received perfect releases during all this time, providing fans with the confidence that many more will come in the future, while maintaining and further enhancing the collective appreciation and admiration for the music we all love and which will remain with us for the rest of our lives.

The analysis and discussion of his work has reached such level of comprehensiveness and detail, that our forums have become an essential reference for fans and scholars, while fomenting the creation of fascinating projects that expand and deepen the study of the Maestro’s oeuvre and contribute to increasing its appreciation by future generations who, without doubt, will continue to ensure that his name is in the place it deserves in the history of music and cinema.

Thank you, Mr. Williams, and thanks to all those who have contributed during this time to make the site such a wonderful place. Here’s to 25 more!

Another truly wonderful evening! Not much to add since I covered this same program in my post about the Philly concert, but Williams was again in amazing spirits, even widely smiling at the orchestra while conducting. He couldn’t remember Mark Hamill’s name, referring only to Carrie Fisher’s screen “partner”, but that’s literally my only nitpick beyond again lamenting the missed opportunity of having Williams conduct Yo-Yo Ma himself.

Beyond that, nothing but great energy from the stage and the audience, and in an iconic and historic venue that Williams highly praised when he began the second half of the program (even theorizing there are ghosts in the Hall that dance and play music when it’s empty after performances).

I guess for now, this is it until Tanglewood for East Coast-ers. August feels so far away, but I’m sure it’ll be here before we all know it! Until then, grateful as ever to the living legend that is Maestro John Williams for countless priceless musical memories, from the first note of the first piece to the famous “sleepy hands”, and everything in between.

I mentioned in that thread that I emailed the station and they told me the concert won’t be broadcast.

First half done! Exactly the same as the first, including Williams greeting the crowd before and after the Schindler’s List encore. Also worth noting that while the Philly concert was confirmed to not have a future broadcast, it was heavily mic’d all the way down to one specifically in front of Yo-Yo Ma. Meanwhile, tonight’s concert only has a single microphone hanging in front of the conductor’s podium and no where else. There are a bunch of cameras at the back of the hall, but I can’t see how a good sound recording could be acquired for this one with the only mic I can see.
