  1. Hi, I wrote this piece some time ago. It's a rather classical work for cello and chamber orchestra. The midi sequencing is far from ideal, but please tell me what you think! I value your opinions. http://users.skynet.be/salembier/Atlantis%...20Orchestra.mp3 greetings, Willem Salembier Belgium
  2. perhaps you can print it to a PDF file if you have adobe acrobat ?
  3. Great idea! Perhaps I'll participate too.
  4. Reading the Top-10 JW soundtrack list, I was planning to buy me the Superman soundtrack. My question is: which is the best recording? The Varese re-recording or the Rhino extended original recording. I just want the best recording in terms of quality. Quantity doesn't interest me that much. I know the Rhino recording has 20 minutes extra, but maybe the Varese recording is better. Can you help me?
  5. Thanks for your input on my post. I completed the cd this weekend. I changed my initial idea of combining several Williams soundtracks. Although Harry Potter and Hook have several clear christmas cues, for some reason they didn't match well with the Home Alone tracks. (perhaps the HP cues I filtered were too short). So finally I ended up creating a best of compilation from the Home Alone 1 & 2 soundtracks, mixed with some christmas pop songs from the first Home Alone album, and it works excellent! I have a wonderful, christmas album, full of enjoying and quiet music and without the (for some people, myself not included) disturbing action cues from the two seperate soundtracks. I spent a lot of time finding out the right sequence of tracks, avoiding that the same themes don't return too fast and are spread out well over the album. I also had to drop some beautiful tracks from both soundtracks to avoid that my album doesn't get overloaded by the 'Somewhere in my memory/Home Alone' theme and 'Star of Bethlehem' theme over and over again. So this is the result: 1. Somewhere in My Memory - Home Alone 2 2. Home Alone - Home Alone 2 3. Christmas Star - Home Alone 2 4. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Mel Tormé 5. Star of Bethlehem - Home Alone 6. Plaza Hotel and Duncan's Toy Store - Home Alone 2 7. O Holy Night - Home Alone 8. I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas - The Drifters 9. Christmas at Carnegie Hall O Come All Ye Faithful O Little Town of Bethlehem Silent Night 10. Christmas Star and Preparing the Trap - Home Alone 2 11. Please Come Home For Christmas - Southside Johnny 12. Arrival in New York - Home Alone 2 13. Star of Bethlehem - Home Alone 2 14. Finale - Home Alone 2 15. Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas - Home Alone 2 Have a nice christmas time! Willem
  6. I had a fun idea last weekend. I started working on a special christmas compilation cd full of John Williams music. There are some obvious tracks which should be included (like Home Alone), but maybe you know other music that matches perfectly. I own the Home Alone 2 soundtrack and I love listening to it during christmas. It's only a pity that the thematic, more quiet, tracks are often interrupted by more aggressive action cues. Cause my family obviously dislikes this kind of loud music during their christmas diner, I wanted to create a more quiet personal album. This is what I've got (no particular order yet) Home Alone 2 01 - Somewhere in My Memory 02 - Home Alone 04 - Christmas Star 05 - Arrival in New York 06 - Plaza Hotel and Duncan's Toy Store 08 - Star of Bethlehem 11 - Christmas at Carnegie Hall- O Come All Ye Faithful- O Little Town of Bethlehem-Silent Night 14 - Christmas Star and Preparing the Trap 16 - Reunion at Rockefeller Center 18 - Finale 19 - Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas Hook 04 - Granny Wendy 11 - The Banquet Harry Potter TPS 07 - Entry into the Great Hall (only first part, this one is longer than Introducing Colin on TCOS) 09 - Hogwarts forever! (only the horn cue) 12 - Christmas at Hogwarts (took a cue from the middle, not the ghost singing) Harry Potter TCOS 04 - Gilderoy Lockhart 19 - Reunion of Friends Stepmom (not sure I'll take all these parts) 01 - Always and Always 02 - The day between 05 - A Christmas Quilt 06 - Isabel's horse and buggy 07 - Taking pictures 11 - Jackie and Isabelle 15 - End credits My question, do you have other suggestions. The music must not be used explicetely as christmas music in a movie, but should have that typical christmas feel. Thanks for your input. I'll post my titles once I finished the album. Willem
  7. You're right. I find the same themes played a lot more richer in HP I . The orchestrations in HP I are more complex, which make them more satisfying to listen to. I wonder if this version is some kind of simple William Ross arrangement. The themes, John Williams originally wrote, were a lot more interesting.
  8. If you want to know how original Hans Zimmer really is, listen to The Battle and other pieces from Gladiator and compare it to the concert piece Mars from The Planets, written by Gustave Holst. It's COMPLETELY IDENTICAL. There are legio other examples too.
  9. Did anyone of you see this site: http://www.mettlerweb.de/composer/ It's rather funny to see how much known film themes ressemble other classical works. Don't understand me wrong: I think John Williams is the best and very original too. But, listen once to Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Kings Row vs John Williams: Star Wars Is it a coincidence or not? There other interesting examples from Hook & The Phantom Menace. Please, I want to hear your opinion about the music fragments on this site. Bye
  10. I recently bought the signature edition score of Harry Potter and it is an amazing work of art. :wow: I have one question though: do you know any recordings where I can hear the following pieces as printed in this score. II. Nimbus 2000 III. The Sorcerer's Stone I recognize the themes but they aren't equal to the tracks on the Harry Potter soundtrack. Thanks
