Godzilla Cinematic Universe Thread
Giftheck replied to Unlucky Bastard's topic in General Discussion
https://screenrant.com/godzilla-vs-kong-monsterverse-movie-future-max-borenstein/ Some more vaguaries with regards to the future of the Monsterverse from Max Borenstein, who wrote the script for Godzilla 2014, co-wrote Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla Vs Kong, and helped with the story of King of the Monsters. The interesting thing is that Borenstein says 'it's in good hands' - which might suggest that he has either a much more reduced role in future installments, or no involvement. Adam Wingard is apparently working on a new Monsterverse film, which may be an adaptation of Son of Kong for Legendary. EDIT: Re. the music for Godzilla Vs Kong, it is the weakest score the Monsterverse has produced thus far, a typical fare from Junkie XL mixed with knockoff Akira Ifukube. Desplat created a much more memorable original score for the 2014 film. -

I wouldn't be surprised if he perhaps used Elfman's, Horners or Zimmer's themes in the villains' individual introductions, but then have a new theme for them collectively after that.

It's possible. Though it could just be that LinkedIn can be a mess to navigate sometimes. I swear, it's trying to be more like Facebook. -
The Matrix Resurrections (Fourth Matrix film)

Yeah, looking at that and I must be missing something, because I see no indicator for that. -
Remember when James Rolfe took the most inoffensive 'I'm not seeing it, so I have no opinion' stance on it?

For me, 'hate' is a pretty strong word. I just felt that it was too much a rehash of the first film and despite the four main cast normally working really well with each other, they just came off as unfunny to me in this film. The camoes by old cast members also felt a little insulting, as if specifically designed to rub salt in the wounds of people who had been hoping for a proper send-off for the original cast. It's far from the worst thin in the world of film though. It just could have been much more than it was. Despite the several steps back Ghostbusters II had with some of its characters, it at least had enjoyable moments for me.

Apparently, according to the reactions there, it's actually good. Though we shall have to wait and see. It can hardly be possible to do worse than the last film.

The Matrix Resurrections (Fourth Matrix film)

Also, do we still have zero clue as to who the composer of the film is? It's looking unlikelt to be Don Davis unfortunately, and likely to be Twiker/Klimek. But there's been nothing official confirming anything as far as I know. -

Neo is a Jesus analogue, so it makes some sense. EDIT: Trailer description Source It stood to reason the Machines just plugged Neo back into the Matrix. Gutted that they're actually going with a young Morpheus instead of getting Laurence Fishburne back. WB will probably release this trailer publicly soon, though why it hasn't already been released, IDK. -
That's about the size of it, yeah. The rumoured leaks mention Rhino as well.

Also, sometimes, Doctor Strange does still fuck up just like this in the comics and he's been Sorcerer Supreme for much longer. I mean, if you can get Loki to ask what the heck is Strange doing...

Elfman's using Giacchino's theme also, IIRC. I wonder if Giacchino will return the favour... or even if he's allowed to? Elfman wasn't best-pleased when he heard his themes were used in Spider-Man 3 without his knowledge, from what I recall.

Lightning in a bottle with those characters, and even then to a few they were starting to wear out their welcome. The chances of doing it a second time... well, Marvel must be glad to have more of the big hitters back, like the X-Men. Even so, Marvel is a ways off doing anything with them yet. I have the feeling Sony will still allow Marvel to use Spider-Man in their films, but they will certainly start doing things solo again when it comes to the solo outings.

I think what Jay is just wondering what that means exactly. Prior to the renegotiation, Marvel could veto any attempt Sony made to include the Tom Holland Spider-Man in their films. Now, they'll be able to include that character. Hence what Feige meant when he said Spider-Man is in the unique position of being able to 'cross universes'. He's just wondering what that means exactly. I think it'll mean that Sony and Marvel get to 'share' the Tom Holland Spider-Man. That's not to say that Sony doesn't have the option of using their past versions of Spider-Man in future projects either. There's talk doing the rounds that Sony is looking into reviving past series (more than likely if they do, it'll be the Andrew Garfield series given the Tobey Maguire series did close itself out after three films, while TASM felt more 'open-ended' and 'sequel-hooked').

They already kicked the multiverse off with Loki and What If. If anybody wants to know who the third returning actor is, it's Plot leaks have been around for months detailing there's three further villains. I've also heard that

Sony's Marvel Universe (Venom, Morbius, etc)

I love Carnage's look. I know some said he was basically a red Riot, but they've worked on the design and it definitely sticks true to the source material in a number of ways. I also like how Kasady basically 'transforms' into Carnage - it's very unlike Venom. Whereas Venom engulfs Eddie but it's clear Eddie is inside, Kasady is Carnage. Also, I like the 'abusive partner' angle for Venom - that rings true to the comics too (if you're not up on your comics, Venom deliberately altered Eddie Brock's memory and gave him cancer in order to try and convince him to stay bonded) -
A 'synth mixes' version of The Tomb Raider Suite was released by Nathan McCree this week. He recretaed the entire Suite on the same synths used to make the original music for the games. I haven't got it - even backers of the Suite have to purchase it and I have no funds - but it's interesting nontheless. He's also said he's going to release the original music to the first three games, remastered. THis will also include cutscene music. At this stage, though, I feel The Dark Angel Symphony was a better deal - it reimagined the music of the later Tomb Raider games by Core, and automatically included the original game OSTs for 4, 5 and 6.

I quite like the look of this film. It certainly feels more heartfelt than the previous attempt. BTW, IGN has a feature where Reitman breaks the trailer down. There's a lot of elements they've scanned and repurposed from the original film and it sounds like they decided to keep the practical, worn feel from the original film. Also, yes: those are Terror Dogs. Maybe not Zuul exactly.

Definitely fits the soundscape set up by Ifukube without outright feeling like an off-brand bootleg, unlike a certain most recent film entry. I really like the chanting added to the original theme as well, it gives it a very different feel to Bear McCreary's version. I still love that version though. Interesting choice to incorporate Godzilla's Showa roars into the track "The Singular Point" (whereas the show uses a combination of Showa, early Heisei and Millennium roars)- 84 replies
