The first notes reminded me of John Paesano’s Spider-Man theme.

There is a crazy-level epicness to this piece that I have not heard from Williams in a main theme presentation in a while.  In its own way, it reaches DotF-level gravitas.  I don't mean to piss people off, but the last two minutes have a (completely Williams-styled) Zimmer vibe to them.

I don't think he's ever recorded The Adventures of Jar Jar, I've only heard it on a 1999 Varese Sarabande compilation.

Now that the end of Williams' film work is drawing near, I'm curious which film-related compositions, suite, and revised suites are still waiting to see release, recording, or even conducting by Williams himself.  Here's my first crack at a list.  I'm sure there are a million necessary corrections and/or additions.

When you start humming it, you find it shares some structure with the SW main theme--a nice little tie in.

Here's the whole theme (first minute or so of the piece), with chord symbols.

Love the Abma7/Eb to D7 progression, sounds like something out of Last Crusade. Will get cracking on other aspects of the piece once I catch my breath.

Hot take: Howard's main theme for this franchise (the tinkly magical one in "Tina Takes Newt In" from the first score) is every bit as vivid an evocation of a secret, whimsical, magical world as "Hedwig's Theme," which itself is on my Mount Rushmore of Williams themes.

If memory serves, every "volume" of the digital versions corresponds to a single CD from one of the LLL sets. So the first two LLL sets totaling 6 CDs, that works out to 6 digital "volumes." I don't believe anything from Vols. 3 and 4 (which total 6 more CDs) has gotten a digital release -- though I could be wrong. In any case, the physical sets are definitely the way to go -- though I'm clearly biased!

I imagine space aliens in the year 2468 examining this thread, wondering what triggered this impassioned debate. Finally they locate the 'Spacecamp' soundtrack and listen to 'Training Montage'. Hilarity ensues.

This was a great episode, what a wonderful companion to the new album.  I really hope everyone listens to it and enjoys it, and then comes back and reads my thoughts!

I really enjoyed the conversation about placing this score in the context of where JW was in his career at this time, and how where Spielberg was in his career and personal life at the time affected the path of Williams' film score selection as well.

It was also interesting to learn about how Disney purchasing Fox led to this release being possible, and that Mike initially only wanted to release what is Disc 1 of this set because the album mix is only subtly different from the film mix and he had room to include the one album combo track as a bonus track anyway, but that Doug Fake wanted to include the OST album on a second disc, so that's what happened.

It was also very cool to hear Mike Matessino talk about being younger and waiting patiently for a new Williams score to arrive in stores, the frustration with hearing cool Williams music that couldn't be purchased (like his Amazing Stories scores), and copying the SpaceCamp LP to cassette, but doing it in chronological order, to listen to on his walkman.  I did this exact thing when I was in middle school with the Star Wars scores, playing the 1993 anthology set on the CD player on my dad's living room system while recording it to cassette, but in chronological order, also including the Mynock Cave music from the TESB OST CD and the full Training a Jedi from the Gerhardt CD, etc etc.

    Great stuff!
