That's Hans' fault. A good year prior to release Hans & Tom went with that narrative. And it was the initial plan, Tom would try something for Batman. The problem is it's not what happened. And they cornered themselves with that narrative. I think in one of the final interviews, press junkets, they admitted that Hans wanted to try something new for Batman.

Every theme from BVS is by Hans. I was with Hans, Steve M. and Andrew K. just a week after the film was released, so we had time to talk about it... 😀

Composer Threads John Powell kicks ass

@Jay John gives all the story here (1:16:12 to 1:23:23 or so). He's very honest about all this. When Hans tells you "You're making people not enjoy working with you...", that must hit hard... lol -

Hard to say... I personally find Horton to be above these ! Kung Fu Panda, it was nothing planned. Rupert Gregson-Williams was signed on to do it (and who knows, maybe he even started), but given things went bad for him on Bee Movie and Hans actually had to come in and save the day, I guess pursuing KFP was out of question. So Hans took over KFP, but given his schedule, he got John out of "DreamWorks Animation Purgatory" to do it with him. I think it was his chat with Austin Wintory that John admitted he acted like an ass with DreamWorks and they were like "he's done" years before lol. Thankfully KFP happened, because without that, I guess no Dragon either... Butterfly effect ! -
Absolutely not. The cine cut is clumsy, the only version of the film that exists to me is the DC. Anyway I'll rewatch MOS, BVS, WW1 & ZSJL about 5 millions times before I rewatch any James Gunn effort. I chose my side !

Simple, he didn't get along with her. She loved KFP1 temp, every time he tried something new, "back to the temp", he had enough and left. He usually does all the thematic material, but I agree he gives a lot more freedom to his team on those. That's why most of them are co-written. Depends on his schedule too. Madagascar 1 was just 35 min of score in the film, he had to take a step back in the middle to focus on Batman Begins. -

Powell left pretty early (he wrote Shen's theme though) after fighting with the director. So it left Lorne & Dom Lewis handling most of the score with Hans in a rush. -

You can know who handled each cue, but since they all use the thematatic material HZ & JP wrote together, draw your own conclusions... Actually the letter is a specificity to Powell's way of working. L is the 12th letter, means it's the 12th version of that version 2, if that makes sense. You write a cue, 1st version : 1m1 v1 Then you have slight changes of that version, like, I don't know, removing some drums near the end. Most composers would then call that cue "1m1 v1.1". Then maybe have a different cymbal take, and add different drums back, it becomes 1m1 v1.2" Powell will rather call these versions "1m1 v1A" and "1m1 v1B". Then if the cue is rewritten and become really quite different, it would become "1m1 v2" But there's no real rules, the point is that everyone can follow what they're doing ! Some guys, at each change, will call the cues v2, v3, v4, v5... That's why you sometimes have cues being v45 or v60... It's interesting with Kung Fu Panda, you can know who conformed each cue because Hans & Powell don't use the same system : 1m02-03 v2E Legend Of Dragon Warrior (Hero) - Get Up => Conformed by Powell/team (McKee Smith, Ashton Thomas). 2m21 v3.1 Peach Tree Of Wisdom (1:53) => Conformed by Hans/team (Jackman) Or another funny example, on POTC1, McKee Smith did a bunch of cues, and used his usual "Powell way" of working : 3m22 v20F 6-11 Sacking The Village (6-11 is June 11th, date of mixing). -
Apparently, there's no album planned at all. I'll check with Hans if there's anything I can do.
-
I have no idea at this point... If there's no release, I guess it's another one I'll have to add to my list of... "to be released". lol

F1: The Movie - Hans Zimmer (2025)
Stéphane Humez replied to Stéphane Humez's topic in General Discussion
The score came out today "without" the album. -
That's exactly what happened.
-
What makes you think it was different in the past ? Imagine Disney going to Poledouris end of the year 1990 (White Fang), with his whole score completed, and be like "well, it's not working", then hiring Hans and giving him 10 days to rewrite an entire score... Only to tell him that it's not exactly working either and "well screw it, we'll use both..." It's work for hire, it's always been like that (Hollywood was just much less open to let the info out in the past). You'll give me examples of some strong "composer/director" relationships that can make studios & producers look small, (Williams / Spielberg... Zimmer / Villeneuve... Elfman / Burton) but that's never been the norm and probably never will be. You're Dave Fleming, when a studio calls you like "the previous composer's score isn't entirely working, we need something else. Are you in ? PS : we're recording in 3 weeks", well, you try your best to deliver to the client.
-
Well, you have Murphy, his team (Molly ?! Tyler Barton). Then Dave jumped in with his team to meet the deadline (Andrew K, being the first to work on 2 different iterations of Superman... This and Man Of Steel lol, Forest Christenson, Jake Boring, Halli Cauthery...)
