  1. I actually think I’ll be putting the film version of “Learning the Ropes” into my personal playlist. I understand why some find it jarring, but I think it’s kind of necessary to break up the otherwise samey quality of the score. And to be clear, I dearly love this score, but it can be repetitive. It helps I kinda like the groovy overlay and find it’s merging with the traditional orchestral writing very satisfying.
  2. Heroics of Luke and Han still has the same issues when I use my headphones with Apple Music, but maybe I’m not doing it right
  3. I wouldn’t make an inferences from a handheld phone video from months before the movie comes out
  4. Pretty much inaudible in the clip lol, but consistent with his other recent action music as far as I can tell 🤷‍♀️
  5. Beyond how obviously not true that rumor is, why would anyone involved want to make a product that has to be seen at home from a franchise of which the major appeal of the theatrical experience?
  6. Everything Everywhere is a truly excellent film and deserves wins in most categories it is nominated.
  7. Been spending some more time with this score today. Just love love love “From Darkness to Light”. Love how the strings that play counterpoint to the family theme build and crescendo with the rising quality of swimming up for air. One of the great film cues. Brings me to tears.
  8. One thing I’d like if we get more is the full version of “Na’vi Attack”. There’s actually a lot more of that awesome Payakan material that is not on the album version
  9. I saw it four times and thought that was excessive. Christ…
  10. The “leaked” score is actually cues from John Frizzell’s score for the film Primeval if I recall correctly
  11. This was pointed out previously in the thread. I think we agreed it was a theme for loss/grief? Up to interpretation. Very lovely idea, especially in “Family” Would love to hear what Franglen says
  12. In these contexts, “Woke” means “things I don’t like that I am scared to confront the reasons why”
  13. I have seen the films. Riseborough’s performance is superior to the actresses she supposedly beat out. I don’t think the argument should be that black actresses should automatically be nominated because we need diversity, but rather black actresses shouldn’t be ignored when their work is just as good if not better than white actresses, which is often the case. As I said, Riseborough gave the superior performance. There is nothing wrong with her using the means available to her to get her work out there. If anything, be mad that that giant piece of shit Blonde getting an actress nomination. I swear, playing Marilyn Monroe is a cheat code to getting an acting nod no matter how bad the movie or unremarkable the performance. Really laughable.
  14. Very interesting! I kept thinking that Way of Water had a lot of the DNA of Airplanes, especially in tracks like Payakan. Makes more sense now.
  15. I am grateful for what we have while still wishing I had more. It is possible to be both things.
  16. Pretty much no relation to what is in the film aside from the classical pieces.
  17. This music is not in the film. The only score that is in the film is barely audible bass tones and a short, incomplete melody that Tar is writing. We never hear more than 4 or 5 notes of it. There is almost no score in the film.
  18. I was surprised with how heavily they leaned on the game’s score. Most of the cues seemed to reflect some musical idea that was in the game.
  19. It’s not a retcon. The finger difference was present in the first film. They just never directly acknowledged it in the dialogue because everyone knew Jake was an outsider anyways vs. his kids that were trying to blend into the Metkayina tribe. They also make a point of them not having the water-specific features.
  20. Bad Parents fuckin’ slaps, a true banger of an action cue
  21. This was exactly my experience. The 48 looks great once your eyes adapt to it, but when it cuts quickly back and forth, the 24 looks even lower. The worse instance is the “A Farewell to Arm” sequence, which is unfortunate because that part ruled otherwise.
  22. The glasses they give at my local imax at least are big enough to completely go over my (large) glasses. It's surprisingly comfortable.
