  1. Gary Chang did The Conspirators for Under Seige. Horner's direct rip of Williams, Goldsmith and Profokeiv on the Battle Beyond The Stars/Humanoids From The Deep cd come to mind. He blatantly steals from Jaws, Star Trek TMP and Alexander Nevsky.
  2. http://www.theforce.net/episode2/index.shtml#21606 Apparently theforce.net has the answer to the Samurai Jack - Across The Stars dub.
  3. Kazaa doesn't have anything of interest anyways. If you don't do alot of downloading I wouldn't worry. Although those who are registered with places like Kazaa might want to remove it.
  4. Funny I've seen that episode several times and have never noticed. I can just picture Williams sitting in his recliner each night and tuning in to Samurai Jack.
  5. Of course the RIAA won't admit to it but some people seem to think another reason sales are declining is due to the fact that CDs are over priced, a majority of the artists now are one hit wonders and alot of groups have one or two good songs on their cds and the rest are crap. There was an article last year in the USA Today that pointed those 3 things out.
  6. The only way I would name a child after a celebrity is if that person were a close relative or very good friend. Anything other than that borders on obsession in my opinion and is a line I will not cross. My son is named after me, my middle name is his first name.
  7. MV does have a bland sound to most of their scores. At times they can show promise but it quickly fades back to the synth sound. At times some of their music can literally be headache inducing, see Armageddon. At times it sounds like someone is just pounding on a synth with no musical direction at all. Even Trevor Rabin, who is not a MV clone and is classically trained from what I've heard, has the same problem. I watched a special on HBO when Deep Blue Sea was released and it had a section devoted to the score. The music performed by the orchestra alone actually sounded quite good but when the music was mixed for the film he must have filtered it back thru the synths or mixed them because it had that MV sound. To me Gladiator was ruined because of the music. I actually found the score to be annoying & distracting while watching the film. That movie screamed for a pure orchestral score. Maybe it's just me but when I watch a film scored by those composers I just get the feel it's all recycled material.
  8. I agree with Joe on a few points, Alien 3 ruined what Cameron and to an extent Scott had established. I couldn't believe they killed off Newt, Bishop & Hicks so easily, although that's one of ways to deal with characters when actors don't return for sequels. To me the next step should have had the aliens finding Earth. I will admit though, as bad as Alien 3 is it still has a very effective score by Elliot Goldenthal and is one of the best shot films from a technical standpoint.
  9. I voted for E.T. because those last 15 mins bring tears to my eyes everytime I listen to it.
  10. It is indeed sad that you own a movie that cost $80 million to make for $16.00 to $18.00 that is loaded with extras and maybe grossed enough to earn a profit but yet 60 minutes of music costs that much or more depending on where you shop.
  11. His hair is no worse than Obi-Wan's mullet from ATOC, or Luke's 3 hairstyles from the original trilogy. Or even ROTJ'S Gen. Madine's(Spelling?) very odd cone shaped haircut. -Mark, who thinks people didn't have great taste in hairstyles in that galaxy far far away.
  12. While both cues are nice I prefer the opening credits. It's funny, when the series first aired I used to scan the credits looking for Williams name because I was so sure he had written the main titles since it was a Spielberg project yet I could never find his name.
  13. Joan Crawford Mommie Dearest VS. Leatherface The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Unless Leatherface has a frigile psyche and is afraid of wire hangers I can't see Mommy Dearest winning. Bruce The Shark Jaws VS. Norman Bates Psycho - One chomp and Norman is history. Hannibal Lector Silence of the Lambs VS. The Blob - I see it ending in a draw as both eat each other. Darth Vader Star Wars VS. Entropy Final Destination - Vader all the way. T-X The Terminatrix Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines VS. Nicholson's Jack Torrance The Shining - No contest T-X wins going away. Glenn Close's Cruella De Vil 101 Dalmations VS. Glenn Close's Alex Forrest Fatal Attraction - Hmm interesting both like harming little animals but Alex has a slight edge. Alien VS. Freddy Kreuger Nightmare on Elm Street - may go a few rounds but in the end Alien is too much for Freddy, plus I don't think the Alien can dream. Linda Blair The Exorcist VS. Bela Lugosi's Dracula - both are from the dark side but Dracula does have a few weaknesses that cause him to lose. Second round to come later.
  14. Bad Boys I only grossed about $60 million domestically but I guess video sales must have been thru the roof to warrent a sequel and it was made on a small budget. A movie grossing $100 million doesn't hold the same weight as it would say 15 to 20 years ago. With skyrocketing budgets and advertsing I think $175-200 million is a better judgement on how well a film does. Plus with high ticket prices and the large amounts of screens movies open on it doesn't take long for a film to reach the $100 mark. Of course that is all my humble opinion and not based on any factual data.
  15. I also forgot the late Masaru Sato and a female composer, Michiru Oshima, who has scored the last 2 Godzilla films and is assigned to the next one as well. She has worked mostly in anime but she did a great job with Godzilla. GNP Crescendo released a copy of her first Godzilla film; Godzilla v.s. Megaguiris and it is still available in stores and much cheaper than the import version. I'll also throw in a recommendation for Joe Hisaishi as well.
  16. I'm not suprised about the Matrix, I am suprised that Terminator 3 is doing well but next week should be the true telling point. X-Men 2 performed like the first one, started quickly but faded mightly. Bruce Almighty caught on and grossed more than I thought, although it is a very funny and entertaining film. Pixar's films seem to get better and better and they go along, now let's see if they can avoid what happened to Disney after the Lion King grossed $300 million. Non of their animated flicks have even reached $200 domestically, in fact I think Lilo & Stitch may have been their highest grossing film since the Lion King. In the upcomming weeks we shall see how Pirates of the Caribean & Tomb Raider 2 perform. Frankly I think Tomb Raider 2 will bomb, the first film only grossed $131 million domestically and wasn't well received, plus Jan Dubont's track record has fallen since Twister. Pirates has the potential to be one of the top films of the summer or an expensive flop.
  17. I think I may have voted wrong, I can't remember what Main Title goes with the seasons. I'll have to go home and pull out my Lost In Space cds. -Mark, who feels ashamed because he used to watch Lost In Space as a child every day.
  18. Total Recall, The Mummy Returns & Rambo II are 3 quick choices off the top of my head.
  19. Ok the name of the book is Titanic and The Making of James Cameron: The Inside Story of the Three-Year Adventure That Rewrote Motion Picture History. I've read the chapter myself where it discusses Williams possible involvment. I believe it states that Cameron wanted Williams but he was busy scoring The Lost World. Horner was represented by the same agency that Williams was and one of his (Horner's)agents got his hands on copy of the script and showed it to Horner. Horner immediately fell in love with the story and met with Cameron and the rest is history.
  20. Yes James Cameron wanted Williams to score Titanic at first. There is a book out there on the making of Titanic that goes into detail about this matter. In fact I think the correct title of the book and page number may be archived on this message board somewhere.
  21. Yes you must add Akira Ifukube to the list. He is in my top 4 of all time favorite composers. There are 2 Majin cds that I know of. Both are more than likely out print. One is a 2 disc version of all three scores and then there is the version I have which is called the Maijin Memorial boxed set. It has 3 discs, each one representing one film. It also includes dialogue as well as the music but most of the cues are dialogue free.
  22. Suprisingly the movie seems to be generating positive reviews, or at least more than I thought it would. I was expecting it to be one of the big bombs of the summer and while it could still be, there seems to be a higher positive reaction than I expected.
  23. Actually on some of the other message boards a few people have complained that the Theme in T3 is an almost blatant rip of John Ottman's score to Apt Pupil. Brad Fiedel's score for T2 is perfect in the film and interesting to listen to if you have the patience to sit thru it.
  24. For me the jury is still out on Gregson-Williams. Chicken Run was fun score that paid homage to Bernstein's The Great Escape but Shrek was sort of a step backwards for him and John Powell. It came across sounding too MV-ish plus one of themes sounded like a direct lift from Trevor Rabin's Deep Blue Sea. Plus everytime I think of Sinbad, Bernard Herrmann & Ray Harryhausen come to mind. Although I will say the animation looks nice for this film.
