  1. Jason, that would be very cool, but I really don't know if I'll be able to make it, so if you get the chance to sell those tickets to someone else, take it. It won't be until later before I even find out if it is in the realm of possibilities for me to attend. But if I do, I'd love to get to meet you.
  2. Here it is youtube'd (with a typical PBS/NPR voice-over guy talking for a bit, but you can still hear the music). Oh, cool. I like that. Wish it were longer, though.
  3. It really is sad, all this squabbling that has gone on after the LOTR release. They really made something great with those movies, and I would love to see what they could do with The Hobbit.
  4. I desperately want to go to this concert. Unfortunately, I don't know whether or not I will be able to afford it. Does anyone know if it is looking like tickets will sell out anytime soon?
  5. Irina's. Completely love it, especially used as a sort of march theme in action music (Jungle Chase).
  6. Heh. Well, I picked it up today for $0.50 (there was a sale), so anyone who wants it is welcome to it. If not, I'll find someone else to give it away to.
  7. Does anyone NOT have the Jurassic Park score? I saw one cheap, and would pick it up and send it, but I thought it was possible everyone around here might have it. Reply quickly if you don't, as it might be gone next time I get to the place (though the CD selection there does not usually turn over too fast).
  8. I think (and could be wrong) that I heard that while the book and rarities were going ahead, the plans to release bundles of CRs with and without the book had been decided against at the moment. But I am not sure.
  9. Here is an interesting article comparing the two: http://www.filmmusicmag.com/?p=3344
  10. An often heard complaint is that VSL doesn't sound Hollywood enough but perhaps they fixed that by now with new articulations. That complaint is usually hear from people who just want more of a finished sounds than the raw flexibility that VSL gives you. Basically, VSL gives the closest I have ever heard to the real raw sound of the instrument, and then the composer is able to make it fit for the genre he would like by reverb and other FX. That has been the problem with competing orchestral samples in the past. When they try to make them sound as good as possible out of the box, you lose a lot of flexibility.
  11. Here is a short film one of my friends made, and I composed the music to. Would love to get people's thoughts on it. .
  12. Wow. That really is some excellent music, and very good orchestration. Bravo!
  13. Sounds to me like SAE will buy CDs with holes. "Cds must be in mint or near mint condition and if any are notched or have hole punches on the booklets and or tray cards please note on your list." But when I got them, it was like $20 for 10, or something. I wasn't going to make much, was just hoping for like $3 to $6 per. I sold one to F.Y.E. and they bought it regardless of the damage.
  14. Curiosity has to ask, how or why did you acquire 8 extra copies? I got them really cheap in a bundle on e-bay. Was going to sell them, but that has been a little harder than I thought. The market is a little glutted with TPM OSTs. If anyone wants any, they are yours. Are they brandnew? Still shrinkwrapped? Yep, brand new. Shrink wrapped. I think there is a hole in the bar code or something like that.
  15. The cds came Saturday, Mark, perfect conditions, everything wonderful. Thanks so much!
  16. Um, overall? Lifetime? Do you prefer James Horner's overall thematic unity?
  17. Um, I admire John Williams......And I write music......
  18. Subconsciously, it does tell a story. I love, and have listened to many times, the score for The Water Horse. Never seen the movie. But the emotions, and, more importantly, the progression of emotions and other aspects (which is what a story is), I relate to. I do not have some sort of explainable intricate story planned out in my mind, but the score connects with me on a level which I believe the movie never would. I can get anything I want to out of the score. Little things like who does exactly what when are not important in this type of story-telling. That is what the audience can fill in to their desired depth, if they want to. The artists tells the story in a raw form, stripped of everything cumbersome, and gives more freedom to the emotions, and I believe it can be even more powerful that way. Not to say I don't watch movies. But it is certainly not required for me, and I tend to like (good) scores better.
  19. I like the way that a good film score tells the story apart from the movie. Whereas movies so often hand everything to you on a silver platter, film music is a much more participative medium on its own. Lots of room for creativity from the listener. It is a subconscious thing, but film scores tell me a story even if I haven't seen the movie. I tend to like story-telling that leaves more to the audience.
  20. Same here. I enjoy plenty of scores without seeing the movie, and there are some that I would rather not see it, as I am quite sure the movie would take away from the score, not because I would then think of the movie when listening, but when watching the movie, not-so-great scenes that go with great music would take away from the musical experience. Probably half of my film scores I have not seen the movie to. Maybe over half.
  21. Maybe if Zimmer started to conduct his own scores I would be more satisfied with them. Giacchino, too.....Oh wait, I already am satisfied with them. BTW, I didn't see him conducting the academy stuff, how did he do? Should he start conducting his own scores? As far as this release, awesome! Someday, I will be glad this was released, when I am able to buy it.
  22. As far as musically versatile, Giacchino really is up there, not at the top of course, simply because he has not had enough time to put out enough different types of works. But, from what I have heard, each on has a very distinctive style. I really feel like styles is where he really is at his strongest.
  23. Um, exclusively? I don't have that sort of time. Total? Maybe 13 hours or so. I listen to a lot when I work on Algebra.
