  1. Good post, Wojo. I pretty much agree with you. I think somebody needs to come up with a definitive classification system for music genres. Classical just doesn't cut it, and it always bothers me for people to toss that term around.

Actually, many of the terms are too much based on people's shifting opinions. Both 'classical' and 'modern' need to be thrown out the window, along with romantic, probably...

  2. Kaczmarek: Well there is this great era of composers that we always site, like Herrmann and (Erich) Korngold. But as much as I like bold strokes and the great scope of that era, it is, in a sense, useless today because we can't write that way. As much as I admire that craft, we are living in different times. There is a much more subtle language being used now.

Best point made in the whole article

Hmm, I disagree. Just because a score is completely orchestral and big, doesn't mean it isn't also subtle. Of course, there is also some wonderfully subtle music being written today, as well.

  3. This whole 'classical' music thing is just plain silly. Classical was a period of music, with Mozart being the center of it. Obviously, the word 'classical' has come to mean much more than that, and basically be a catch-all for music that is at least 90 years old or so.

But to say that film music isn't classical music is just the same as saying that ballet isn't classical music.

Oh, and on SL being accepted as 'serious' music thing, I think that is kind of odd, since the theme is one of the more 'easy listening' melodies he has written. Doesn't it seem like those people should be parading things like Images or WotW?

  4. I received this CD on yesterday's mail, and have been listening to it non-stop, mainly to the Williams work.

I hurge every music lover and Williams fan to get this. The Duo Concertante is alone worth the price of the set.

This is such a wonderful piece, a masterpiece for sure, absolutly breathtaking, right from the first chord!

And the whole set is likely to became one of my favorite chamber CDs, and for sure is the best one for small scalled ensemble I got this year.

Hey, great to see you around here again! ROTFLMAO The board has missed you. Hope things are going well with you, and that you will get the chance to drop by and post a little more often.

  5. Quint, I am not saying that words like "Jesus" and "God" should be filtered. I am just saying that they offend me when used wrongly. And yes, I am used to being offended. But to tell you the truth, I have carefully questioned whether or not I should be a part of this forum because of that very problem. I am just saying that I find that problem far more offensive than childish profanities.

That is my stance, like it or not. And sorry to have opened this can of worms, Marc. I just wanted people to know why exactly I have a problem with profanities.

  6. By the way, the profanity that actually bothers me is not what many consider to be the most vulgar. Those words come and go with the times, and if people want to be childish about it, fine. But there are words, and more importantly word usages, that have been around for a long, long time, and that go against my personal religious beliefs to say. These bother me. The rest is just, well, childish.
