  1. Based on a comment by MV on FSM, LLL will be releasing Jerry Goldsmith's WARNING SHOT soon.

Coming later this month from Vocalion, the British CD outfit=

Double album of Si Zentner: "From Russia With Love," featuring assorted TV and movie themes of the late 50's, early 60's, with "Warning Shot," a six-movement suite from Jerry Goldsmith's score for that film, along with a sampling of his other TV movie themes, and, for good measure, don't ask me why, the classic movie-pop song, "Mona Lisa."

Available now for pre-order at Amazon.

(The label also offers a number of Geoff Love movie tune anthologies, including "Big War Movie," which was the only way I could hear Rozsa's "Green Berets" theme -- until Lukas Kendall was born.)

You might wanna hold off on buying this Warning Shot.

    I'm just sayin' wink.gif

  2. My problem is the whole design looks cheap - and the custom created logo is nigh on the same as a bootleg cover that previously made the rounds. The back cover as well just looks ugly and cheap. I agree on the yellow font, but it's better than the LLL. I had previously assumed the long "Music from the Paramount original motion picture soundtrack" was contractual as it was the same on the original LP, but I guess not.

  3. I agree, they do. But I don't think it's a pre-requisite, and it's certainly not something we should expect from a label who - for better or for worse - actively ignores the online community. We know Varese doesn't do this kind of thing, we've known for a decade or so, but we still bitch as if it's something we can actively change.

I don't agree that re-releases should immediately equal more music. I think we've been conditioned by the multitude of expansions (which is certainly something Varese have previously contributed to) but there's no rule, written or unwritten, that says any new release should be expanded.

I certainly understand people's frustrations, but the bottom line is either buy it or don't. Don't spend pages and pages (as that FSM thread has) grinding about something that everyone has already known for years just for the sake of it.

  4. That's because Varese don't pre-announce until the product is ready.

We know Varese don't like the internet community and they don't communicate, so why is everyone up in arms? It's nice that from time to time we do get an explanation, but I don't think it should be demanded. After all, we vote with our wallets.

I would readily buy an expansion, but I dofeel the LP program is fantastic and it deserves to be out there. My only gripe is that it's part of the CD club and therefore a limited edition (what is with these low unit numbers for requested scores?). Also I guess that means a faster turnaround for someone else to issue it.

  5. Er...thanks, Wojo...

    A quick "Star Wars" question:

How is the rebellion funded? All those x-wings, and y-wings, and a-wings, and b-wings, and medical frigates, and ion cannons must cost a packet. Did the rebellion put it all on its platinum card? How is it all paid for?

General Dodonna won the Euromillions rollover once.

  6. I sat in V 17 in the front stalls, so we were probably pretty close.

I really enjoyed it, it was my first experience of film music being played live and the orchestra was really good. I noticed the girl go off but I didn't pick up that she broke a string until my wife told me - I thought she just needed the bathroom or something!

The presenter was ok, but he got a few facts wrong but you're right, it was weird him just sitting there staring.

The Memoirs track was Sayuri's Theme, at least according to the programme. I'm not that familiar with it myself.

One thing that I thought about - during the SW suite, they played the Throne Room coda both on the main title medley and the Throne Room piece - I thought it was normally just played at the end of the Throne Room section to round the whole suite off?

  7. It's fun to the point where I stepped outside the theater and wanted to kick the shit out of people with a gigantic hammer whilst shouting 'For Asgard!'

It's a real comic book film - you can't compare this to the Nolan Batman - this is just a really well-written, well-directed, well-acted rollercoaster. It's exhilarating (The HULK especially), it's funny, the tone is right - it's serious when it needs to be but knows when to cut the tension with a joke - and just fun. The dynamic between the characters is one of distrust at first, so there are teething issues to go through while they fight the bad guys.

I thought the score worked really well - have to go back and listen to it on its own.
