Label Threads The Official Intrada Thread
Charlie Brigden replied to Trent B's topic in General Discussion
I'd imagine he wouldn't include the Prometheus recording as it's not the original score, which has been released on CD twice before, with a straight translation of the LP in Europe from Milan Records, and an expanded release from Varese. I did think about it being TMP, but I guess the Legacy release still counts as a 2-CD set, even with what's on disc two. CONAN it must be! -
Stuart Townsend should not be in any film ever.

I agree. Whether he/she's a glorified copyist or not, if he/she worked on the film/score they deserve some sort of credit. And the composer can make sure he has a credit that says "composed, conducted and arranged by".

What is John Williams' 'BIGGEST' score?
Charlie Brigden replied to Sandor's topic in General Discussion
I think ROTJ should certainly sound massive, but it doesn't to me. Even The Dark Side Beckons and The Emperor's Death, which given their thematic significance should certainly be massive, don't feel it to me. The only real cue that feels like it is the Emperor's Arrival. Whereas ESB is chock-full; The Battle in the Snow, The Asteroid Field, The Duel, Hyperspace (this one in particular always sounds MASSIVE). Even the quieter cues like where Darth and the Emperor communicate or where Lobot ambushes the stormtroopers, it has real scale to it, it feels like there are life-changing decisions being made. Maybe it's because ROTJ the film doesn't have much of the emotional weight ESB has to it, I'm not sure. Just how it feels to me. -

What is John Williams' 'BIGGEST' score?
Charlie Brigden replied to Sandor's topic in General Discussion
ESB for sure. It feels like it plays on such a massive scale, physically and metaphorically. -
Battle of the Heroes. It has an emotional feel to it (which is probably emphasised by the snippet of the Force theme) that just puts it above. I get annoyed with DOTF pretty quickly, and I am certainly not a fan of its appearance in ROTS. I think it worked for Darth Maul because he was all about the sound and the fury, and I guess it worked decently in a similar way in its cameo in AOTC with angry Annie, but beyond that, I don't enjoy it in the way I do BOTH.

David Yates to Direct 'Doctor Who' Movie
Charlie Brigden replied to #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal's topic in General Discussion
It's disappointing they mention Idris Elba as an unconventional choice. I'd say Ryan freaking Gosling is more unconventional. -
That was annoying, that the EU ESB was truncated (and had terrible track order) and then finding out years later US and Japan got a 2-LP set with almost double the music.

Crazy. Not sure 3500 was the way to go with this one - shame LLL can't follow Intrada's lead. -

The other thread was so entertaining, we were hoping for an enthralling repeat in round two. Valid points, but I have a lower threshold for "crap." The acting wasn't distracting and all the major elements (cinematography, direction, screenplay) were passable at a minimum. For me, only a true "B" movie, or lower, would earn the distinction of being "crap." Then again, I've probably called Transformers "crap" before, but that's just because I hate what it's done for the movie industry, not because it fits my criteria, so I guess there's some leeway. No, you were right the first time, Transformers is drivel. But it doesn't have to be a B-movie to be crap, there are tons of great B-movies just as there are tons of crap A-movies.

I believe Tom Cruise played an American Civil War veteran who went to Japan and ended up fighting in a Japanese civil war. I liked it. It may not have been the greatest movie ever made, but I'm not sure what would make it qualify as "crap," unless you just hate Tom Cruise. It being crap would qualify as crap. Less obtusely, it's boring, the direction is overbaked and Tom Cruise is practically begging for an Oscar he'll never get.

I suppose it makes sense to be Howard because there's no hyphen. Then again, these Hollywood mavericks...

G and N respectively. Alternately the former can be filed under 'Crap'.

I concur. What a gimp.

What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)
Charlie Brigden replied to Mr. Breathmask's topic in General Discussion
Or something like E.T., which is a fantasy deeply rooted in the auteur's personal experiences.
