What is the last score you listened to?

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is one of my favourite things ever. Soundtrack and film. I also like that Patrick Stewart is on the album. -
Films like RAIDERS aren't about realism. They're about creating an illusion through storytelling which makes you believe what you are seeing, whether it's spirits coming out of the Ark or AT-ATs walking across the plains of Hoth. If the story is good enough, the effects should not matter one iota. As it is, RAIDERS was not a huge budget film (as STAR WARS wasn't) but the effects were brilliant because they served the story. It's like JAWS. Does the shark look real? No. But the story is good enough, and it looks as effective as a fake shark in 1975 could have done, that it works, even to the ludicrous conclusion (not a dig, as it's awesome, but it's such a ludicrous concept).

I like it a lot. I think that because some of it is in a strange configuration to what we're seeing (the secondary hull comes out much further than the neck) it looks weird. But I dig. I am unsure about the nacelle design though.

Star Wars: Original Trilogy Music Resource
Charlie Brigden replied to robthehand's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Darth, I have made a film edit of that sequence for my ESB collection. I like it, although I agree the intended cue is superior. I removed everything in the track up to the beat where the cue begins in the film, and then put eighty or so seconds of The Imperial March in there. I removed The Imperial Probe completely, as I wanted to put that into a film version of the Main Title/The Imperial Probe (or The Ice Planet Hoth if you prefer). -
I thought it was ILM that turned him down, because the A team was working on TLC and the B team was working on GB2. Either way, the STV effects are diabolical. Even worse because they're juxtaposed with some shots of ILM's fine work from the end of THE VOYAGE HOME. they should have f*cking made it right it the 1st time. I really was going to put some choice words, but I'll just state facts: You clearly have no idea or concept of just how cutting edge that work was at the time and you really should stop before you embarrass yourself further. Either that or research ILM's techniques in those times and similar effects work and get some perspective.

Sounds terrible. I hope someone at Empire is playing a big joke on us.

Still, it looks like ESB-quality compared to STAR TREK V's from the same year. Ouch.

Are you crazy? Varese, Intrada, FSM, LLL, etc release music just for the hard core fans all the time But those are often very low (in the scale of things) runs. Even though this is a "limited edition," it probably has a pretty big run. That said, I think the number one reason we have this is KOTCS. The timing of the release certainly is to try and catch people who are reminded of Indy and his music by KOTCS. They already know they have the soundtrack geek bucks, but it's the possibility of huge sales that probably convinced Lucasfilm/Concord/whoever to do this, because Indy - as loved as he is - is not on the level of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings on that side of things.

LAYER CAKE? -
I voted for the DCC. Firmly in Mr Bulk's camp here, I like the pause.

Yeah incredibe, who would have thougt what williams re-scored the scene. It was rescored at Lucas' request, not Williams. We're not saying it's not important, quite the opposite. It's just "Map/Out of Fuel" has no comparison with it. You said the cue is boring though, that's what amazed me and prompted my "incredible" reply.

I'm not worried. I probably would be if we didn't have the Lego cue, but we do, so I'm not. In fact, it's even cooler. And it's nothing like "Binary Sunset". As much as I love the film version of "Map/Out Of Fuel", at the end of the day it's just another statement of the Raiders March followed by the love theme, 100% a sought-after cue in soundtrack nerd terms, but in relation to the iconography of the cue and the thematics, there's no comparison. "Binary Sunset" is the one track that thematically defines A NEW HOPE. "Map/Out Of Fuel" is just a great cue that happens to score a plane superimposed on a map.

Is this the theme that seems to represent Henry/Fatherhood in KOTCS? -
I think X-MEN did it before that. I wouldn't really call SPIDER-MAN's drama realistic though. Most of the good stuff is culled from the comics, and the MJ storyline is full of cliches, and as such she's nothing like she is in the book. And it got worse with each sequel until it just turned into emo drivel in III. Doc Ock was the real standout, but again, that was a counterpoint to some awful writing on Mary Jane's side.
