Didn't he get suspended for saying something similarly stupid recently?

Don't know if I like him or not. LAST SAMURAI was terrible, but I hear GLORY is good.
-
I like Irina's theme and the Skull theme, but I've barely listened to any of it since the film opened. It's certainly not a bad score, but uninspired is definitely a good way to put it.
That said, I'll defend ROTJ to my grave. That score is awesome.

I think if West hadn't turned DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER down it might just be my favourite Bond. Now that's some quality camp.

Panama hat motif. He's a villain... for about five minutes.

It's funny, but it gets old very quickly. I watched it recently and was bored stiff after twenty minutes.
I think that's why the TV series worked. Small doses.

Anyone know the order for the promo of John Murphy's MIAMI VICE?

1. Revenge of the Sith
2. Munich
3. A.I.

I like Aronofsky and all that, but RoboCop... man, that just should not be touched. That flick is perfection, right down to ED-209 and his baby steps.

"Blade Runner" is good as is, but with a better, more compelling story, this film could have been dynamite. Structurally, this movie really, really wanders. With a better voice-over, more effective music in places (although "Memories" is beautiful), and a better plot, the movie would be much better IMO. But more importantly, it would not have alienated that huge portion of the audience that completely loses interest without a more compelling story (not concept- the concept is great).
I disagree, I find the story incredibly compelling and incredibly interesting. I think most of the people that got alienated were the people who thought they'd be seeing another Han Solo or Indiana Jones adventure and instead got some cerebral SF. That and the awful, awful 'Tell-the-audience-what-the-characters-are-thinking' voiceover. Thankfully, the director's cut/final cut has changed that somewhat and the film is rightly held up as a masterpiece.

AKIRA
Still very compelling. As much as I hate remakes, I'd kind of like to see someone tackle this. Maybe Ridley Scott...

I vote for more dark/dramatic movies!
Especially considering the original quoted response is in response to THE DARK KNIGHT, which I loved.
"Blade Runner"- great idea and great artistic achievement- but it suffered from a very weak story.HERESY!

Undoubtedly 5. My favourite score ever, and my favourite movie ever. Hard to describe how good it is in words really.
-
I disagree. ALIENS, WOLFEN, STAR TREK III. Sure, certain parts of them are interchangeable, but they're all pretty great. Hell, I even like COMMANDO and BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS. I'm not a fan of his later stuff though.
-
5 for the score, 3 for the film. Flick has some really good elements, but is pulled down by a lot of unintentional camp.

I was overwhelmed, I think. Sensory overload (that's my pretentious way of saying "geekgasm"). My wife and I were just repeatedly saying "oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god" for about ten minutes after.
we came out stunned too, but we were underwhelmed. While both of us really like it, it failed to live up to the hype.*** out of ****
the more I think about it the more I think Eckhart was the star, sad but Bale was overshadowed by Eckhart, Ledger, Caine, Freeman, and Oldman.
I see where you're coming from, but I don't see him as overshadowed. I think (like HEAT, which it clearly owes a debt to) it's a fine ensemble piece, and I never saw anyone as anything other than the character. There was no Bale, Ledger, Eckhart, etc. There was just Batman, Joker, Harvey. I agree that Eckhart was incredible, a real dark horse, and I love what they did with him.

THE DARK KNIGHT
Stunning.
Joseph. Please not that in my review I made no comparison between the 1989 version and the recent Nolan versions.
I have not seen either, though i probably will in the next weeks.
you're not talking to me, I know noone named Joseph.
Nicholson became a parody of himself in the Shining, so I do understand what you mean, he rarely plays anyone but "Jack".
Jack, DeNiro and Pacino are all incapable of becoming another character in a film, which is fine, they are stars and icons.
I think that's doing a disservice to his performance. I see where you're coming from, but I think he became a parody of himself after THE SHINING. That role is still his absolute peak. I don't really like his Joker, but then again, Keaton and the Batmobile aside I don't really like that movie. The opening titles are great but it goes downhill after that. He's fine for what it is, I just don't like what it is.

My inital feelings can be summed up by the fact that I was unable to speak when I walked out of the cinema.
It's way too early for the masterpiece tag to be thrown around, but this film is incredible. Time will tell how good it really is, but I was stunned.

5 for the movie, 4 for the score. Or should that be a four for WOLFEN?
All jokes aside, lovely score. It seems amazing that the original fanfare was only used from the second picture onwards.

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
I like the idea, as it seems like actual proper SF instead of endless starship battles, but it's a turgid piece of entertainment. Also, the wormhole sequence is hilarious. The effects are mostly good, and the score is obviously genius, but it bored me out of my skull. Thank god for TWOK.

I miss overtures. I watched TMP the other night, and the opening of "Ilia's Theme" is perfect.
-
I think with 300, there's not really a lot to understand. As much as I love it, it's not Miller's deepest work by a long, long way. Watchmen, however... that's a different kettle of fish altogether.
-
Don't watch the show but I like Ebert a lot. Seems like one of the few critics around that still seems to truly love movies.

Of course it's a nice place if everyone agrees. But life isn't interesting without a healthy balance of conflict and agreement.
Seconded. This place is downright placid compared to some boards I used to visit. Some people probably could be a little more respectful, but we have Joey to mock all that anyway. But I don't ever want to be a part of something that's just love, love, love. I love the TDK score, and I'm perfectly happy that most people don't. Doesn't bother me one bit but I'll enjoy arguing my point.

It would be an error to not mention KHAN.
Also, Kent Mansley from THE IRON GIANT.
