I like POINT BREAK a lot, although more for the score, photography and Swayze than anything else. Oh, and the on-foot chase. But I don't think Keanu is particularly convincing unless he is playing a surfer-type ala PB or Bill and Ted. And his performance in DRACULA is hilarious. The trailer is stunningly awful, though. I never thought this would come to fruition, but it looks terrible. I fear now that this will lead to the oft-rumoured comedy remake of THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, another amazing 50s sf opus.

BLADE RUNNER yesterday, BATMAN BEGINS this morning. Three-quarters of E.T. this afternoon. Agreed. I prefer the FC main theme, but the overall score is much more exciting. Even stuff like "The Drones Attack," which as others have mentioned is JG on autopilot, is great. -

BATMAN BEGINS expanded. Love it. -
I remember a few years back hearing a demo for a love song for JAWS 3-D, specifically a love song between the two dolphins. I think Alan Parker and someone else was asked to write lyrics along with an arrangement of the end title, but it was never used (probably because it was TERRIBLE). But it was great for comedy value, however I lost the page where this was and haven't been able to find it since. To satisfy my curiousity, does anyone know any sites with the demo on, or have a copy themselves?

You think in such two-dimensional terms. Why does action scoring have to be in an "action" movie? Surely it's just related to any action "scene" in a "film," and when you look at how many of those JW has done (and how many of those pieces are absolute classics), you must realize the truth. I'm not a fan of Powell in the slightest. But if I were, I still can't imagine he'd be able to write anything like "Desert Chase." Or, going more modern, "Darth Maul Versus Qui-Gon" or "Escape From Naboo" or even "Boys Into Battle." I agree with Goldenthal as well, and I am looking forward to his score for PUBLIC ENEMIES, especially judging from his previous experience with Michael Mann (HEAT).

THE FOUNTAIN seemed like maybe it had an hour cut out of it. It was intriguing, and started to roll a bit, and then suddenly the end credits happened with a "wha?" RED HEAT - Awful. Not in a good way. Well, Ed O'Ross is pretty good, especially considering he sucks in every other movie he's been in. But I was distracted by the huge amount of makeup Arnie was wearing. This is also a sizeable piece of evidence for the anti-James Horner crowd. The whole thing is basically COMMANDO's score, with a bit of Russian march thrown in. -

A couple of demonic flicks for a Sunday afternoon. DAMIEN: OMEN II - Shlocky, but cool. Some good death scenes, and the idea of Damien learning who he is and coming to terms with it and then finally embracing that power is still pretty powerful stuff, and the best parts of the film by miles. THE FINAL CONFLICT - Hey, Sam Neill does evil well. Feels like a BBC TV movie sometimes, but Neill is damn good. I like his speech to the statue, that's pretty fun. Glad Jesus didn't appear for long either. THE EXORCIST III - This movie is WEIRD. Doesn't have an inch of the power of the first movie (which I think is nigh on the best movie ever made) but it comes across like a cross between THE EXORCIST and GRUMPY OLD MEN. Not sure about bringing back Karras, but the redemption theme was okay. -
Aren't they both terrible?

I think the way the image is drawn makes it even more comedic than the film, especially since Darth looks like he's belting out the chorus of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." -

Koray missed this excellent one by Morricone - In the Line of Fire. Yeah, Morricone's got a ton of stuff that I'm really looking forward to listening to. Listen to ORCA, it's greatness. -

Teenage Lobotomy by the Ramones. -
Dark Side Beckons is a killer cue. I rather like "Anakin's Dark Deeds." as well. And the choral version of "Yub Nub" from the Anthology.

Fincher is awesome. I'd kill to even have a smidgen of the talent he has in his little toe. I like ALIEN 3 as well. A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge - Awful, but great. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - Definitely awful. The basement scene killed it. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - An affront to the first two. Street Fighter - An affront to the video game. Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle - I like that the first one isn't on the list, as if that isn't absolutely terrifyingly bad as well. The Crow: City of Angels - Yikes. Saw III - Haven't seen. This might be interesting to see what kind of things people do listen to without having to go through endless lists. Fire up your MP3 or PC media player, whack it on shuffle and put the first five tracks that come up. From my Ipod: 1. "Stealing The Stones" - John Williams, INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM EXP 2. "Main Title" - Michael Small, JAWS, THE REVENGE 3. "Home Coming" - Jerry Goldsmith, FIRST BLOOD 4. "The Crack Of Doom" - Howard Shore, THE RETURN OF THE KING: CR 5. "The Journey To The Grey Havens" - Howard Shore, THE RETURN OF THE KING: CR

I have to say, I am barely listening to anything aside from scores at the moment. Besides some Johnny Cash and some Ramones on my Ipod, everything else is film score. I just don't seem to have the inkling for anything else. -

Eh. I just get really bored with it (film and soundtrack). I can't deny that there are some great moments, and "Journey To The Island" is killer, but a lot of my issue is probably with Spielberg's direction more than the music. I prefer TLW (film and score) much more. -

My opinions on the scores echo the films: love III, like I a lot more than I used to, and despise II, a few moments excluded. Echoing earlier comments, they all need serious editing and could all be much better films if they had that (along with some new ADR). -

The best thing about James Blunt is that he inspired a lovely bit of rhyming slang. -

Every one says that of the music of the generation that follows them. You're Beautiful by James Blunt is another decade highlight. Sure, a highlight in the same way that the highlight of the 1980s was HOWARD THE DUCK. I believe Black Lace still tour. Touche! -
I do as well. It's nice to have the alternate one, but it doesn't have the emotion of the film version, and as the liner notes say (Matisseno?) it has a purging effect, a cathartic effect. Maybe for the Blu Ray edition, Williams can rerecord yet another version of the Celebration...

Thirded. I always find it depressing that all the bands I'd love to see in concert all seem to have either died or split up.
