At 7:33 there is a very low bass drum? That repeats each bar almost like a beating heart. Does anyone know what instrument this is.

Congrats on getting tickets! Safe to say I would never have been able to navigate that website anyway

    Update!!! SUCCESS

Curiosity/anger/disappointment made me log in again at about 10:15 and I was shocked to see that tickets popped up again in 3 seating categories.

I tried again but as soon I proceeded to the next screen, 2 of the categories had disappeared.

I finally managed to score 1 seat in the cheapest category!!!!

Now tickets are definitely gone (?). (Update: tickets seem to be randomly appearing but disappearing pretty quickly)

Wanted the VIP, but will settle with the seat I got. Just lucky to be going!

Sweet man! Will see you there 👍

I was able to get one ticket at the S section.
The website was crazy. However, after a few minutes some slots opened again, possibly due to failed credit card payments. I noticed slots are still opening for like 1 minute and then sold out again. Im trying to get more tickets.

Well, I think that was something special. The LSO playing John Williams with such skill and passion. And the maestro listening along to the performance through the radio from his hospital bed... I may never get to see Mr. Williams in person himself, but if I don't this was still some night to be a witness to.

They sure do. I thought that they were in particularly fine form yesterday and people who had heard them multiple times before attested to that as well after the concert. Such energy in Royal Albert Hall. And that brass section has such an incredible sound!

They know a thing or two about playing John Williams, those LSO boys and girls.

The LSO indeed played their hearts out tonight. Beautiful organic sound and dynamic conducting from M. Brossé. Left on a high I honestly didn’t expect to experience. Hope the Maestro felt the love

I’m reading the programme and pretending he’s here.

I’m hearing a lot of different languages which makes me kinda sad for those who made the trip.

Hope everyone has a great night

great concert, having heard a bunch of other orchestras play the LSO are a cut above they don't seem to do many film music concerts so I guess this was a one off. Fawkes the Phoneix was a nice inclusion as was Dracula theme and Han Solo & the princess. The rest pretty standard. Close Encounters is always a highlight , BFG was amazing.. they didnt play Home alone but this had lots of weird sort of percussion effects and muted brass in it.. didn't disappoint!

Only complaint some of the tempo changes were a bit too fast or slow but overall didn't disappoint and I did pay 500 quid for the ticket

Hope JW gets well soon! Apparently he arrived in London on Monday but was listening in to which the audience applause went nuts!!

All I can say  is the LSO have a way of interpreting his music that makes it art.. they don't just play the notes they embody the spirit.. hope it makes sense.

Have to agree about Williams being wood and JG glass... if they were materials that is..
Both are good at suspense but l think in terms of helping the movie I think Goldsmith was more effective.. there is tremendous light and shade in is scores even in the Mummy... where JW might write some churning ostinato or dissonant synth swell ( which I love.. not dissing this approach at all) in a more romantic style (the chords are 20th/21st century dissonance but the orchestration is so perfect that it sounds very polished), JG wouldn't hold back and would probably use a melody or notes...as opposed to sustained passage with harp etc...
So my 2c is both are good but Goldsmith wins for range but maybe not in terms of quality of composition.....John is more refined.
Goldsmith scores to me seem very raw and he doesn't hold back (think Star trek Insurrection, Mummy, Air Force One) I don't think JW could have written a better score than JG...
But then again I cannot imaging JG doing Star Wars...

Just finished the whole thing. There are parts I like, but it comes off as fairly anonymous in the end, doesn't it? Or at least not as distinctive as the the other SW scores, including the prequels.
Rey's theme is lovely, though I wish it had more of a workout in the underscore itself. Is Finn's theme the action motif from "The Falcon"? I like that bit, reminds me of some of the cool Chase through Coruscant music, but not sure if its much of a character theme. The March of the Resistance is fine enough, if only we haven't heard the same kind of stuff so many times in his career. It was like a mashup of scraps of marches we've heard from the prequels. And I'm not sure I even picked up Kylo Ren's theme.
The old themes are nice to hear, but nothing remarkably unique or anything. The scherzo was good fun and the finale was great. But the score as a whole seemed a little lackluster.
I'm sure more listens will do the trick.
Again, Shore's Tolkien scores do exactly that.

lostinspace got a reaction from Cerebral Cortex in Williams orchestrating The Force Awakens himself?
I find it interesting he didn't use an orchestrator for Book thief or Lincoln. So it's most likely a timing issue. Then again those were scores with less notes.
Also the sketch score for Episode 3 is so clearly laid out ( as you guys say some of it is on 16 lines)\ it really doesn't need an orchestrator at all... JW even has 3 lines for strings with often the viola getting it's own line. ie. The orchestrator has very little contribution if any. Perhaps they may cue in some low wood wind to double brass or strings so changes could be made on the fly?
