Huh, that's curious! I wonder why those weren't considered instead? Would have been a little more interesting at least. Oh well.

I am still waiting for mine in the mail (in the States), but someone I know allowed me to preview their copy in the meantime. I can definitely concur with Tom that this score sounds incredible on this release! Probably is the best it has ever sounded! I do think the sessions were a bit quieter and not as balanced compared to this, so this release is definitely an improvement over that from what I can remember! Regardless, this is the perfect presentation of the score... although I think the demos at the end are one of those curiosity listens that are fun to hear once, then never again. For demos they sound really good, but they basically just sound like deflated versions of what you hear beforehand and aren't MUCH different (like an alternate would be) otherwise. However, I can see why they added them to give more bang for the buck to take up space on a second disc, so this isn't a complaint at all; just don't want people to get too excited for those who had never heard them. I think sessions had more of these demos, but again it was basically just like listening to a flatter version of the whole score anyway.
Again, I REALLY hope people get this release so the chances of them doing the sequel scores will go way up!

Yeah, you're right! I have heard some of them, too. There are some unofficial edits of this score out there, but most are riddled with sfx of course for that kind of material. That's why if there is a expanded release for the sequel I REALLY hope it includes that kind of material, because to me it is part of the score.
-
Oh yeah, this was still a no-brainer purchase even without motives if the sound alone is improved! This is my favorite score from Powell, for sure! Well... tied with Solo, but that is basically a joint score with Williams.
Which is not a bad thing at all! I WANT MORE! lol. For that reason alone there should be a Solo 2.
Yeah, HTTYD 2 definitely had more music that even the FYC didn't fulfill. Even Jonsi's stuff for that one had unreleased instrumentals, and since the song for that film was basically a roided up version of the main theme, it's in the "gotta have" material!
And yea, as stated, the third film was nearly complete on the OST, so that one is the least needed for an expansion.

Yeah, I didn't buy it really for the new music either, since it has all been... out there already (at least I don't think this has anything that wasn't?). But I wanted to support this release and like others see if the sound quality is improved; happy to hear it is! I also want to support this release because hopefully it will inspire one for the sequels, if they aren't already in the works... There's definitely stuff from those that hasn't been out there that I would definitely love to hear.

Yeah the promo files sounded more natural, too. Although I think their dynamic range was a bit... too dynamic? Haha. I believe in a more balanced approach. The OST was overdone, though.

I have conducted an interview with Leo Birenberg, composer of this series, for my channel.
Hope you guys enjoy. It includes music from the show throughout as we talk (over it), but one of the cues plays at the very end on its own.
If you guys want this score released, he has instructed us to tweet our desire to the following Twitter handles:

Honestly, this will forever be my favorite David Arnold score. Is Independence Day a better score? Yes. It has better dramatic music and more memorable themes in comparison. But I don't know, this score is just such a rush. It's relentless, especially in its second hour... I mean, holy crap. And I have honestly always loved the film. I'm with Thor on this one. Was never big on Godzilla's original films or anything else, so having him reimagined to look like a dinosaur iguana wasn't a big deal to me. Of course, as you can see, I am really into Jurassic Park; and I remember seeing this as a kid when it came out and was absolutely thrilled with all the references and etc. And the music made the film so exciting, again especially in its final hour, that I really was carried away with this film at the time. I remember the audience really enjoying it, actually! Maybe I just saw it with a good group, because I definitely see its faults now and also understand why people don't like it, especially if they were original Godzilla fans (I have since only seen the original film, and it is quite good!)... but I can't ever NOT like this film. It's goofy as hell and dumb, but never not fun (well... okay maybe the mid-section kind of drags). I am actually REALLY curious to check out its animated series it had... which continues right where the film ends. I'm told it's actually quite good and improves on a lot of the film's issues, even with the characters, including Godzilla himself. From clips it looks like a lot of fun. Don't think it uses Arnold's score though, haha.
I remember finding the promo bootleg during the Napster days... and man... was so happy when I did. I have fond memories of that presentation of the score, and it just didn't make sense to me why it was never officially released, and instead a album of unrelated rap songs? I never understood that trend, and never will. I remember I was coming home from work one day and saw the e-mail newsletter about Godzilla being released by LLL. I cannot tell you... other than LLL's release of Jurassic Park/Lost World... I don't think I had ever been THAT excited for a release before. At that time, such a thing felt impossible... I thought for sure Independence Day would have happened before it ever had a chance to, for example. But no... Godzilla came first. And I knew from watching the film what amazing music had been left unreleased all these years, buried in a lot of SFX to be extracted properly, and I remember at the time always saying "if it ever got a complete release, it would be one of the greatest action scores of all time." I wasn't as well-rounded with scores back then as I would like to think I am now, but I still think I was actually pretty accurate still in saying that.
Shockingly, I actually did sell off my set... but that was only because there was that 3-disc reissue that came out from BuySoundtrax. It included a couple more alternates which was cool, but I really got it for the first legit release of that promo album (which I am PRETTY sure has an alternate or two of its own in there). Having that back for nostalgic purposes was a huge treat, honestly, even though I prefer the whole score. I really recommend getting it if anyone here somehow still doesn't have this release. It's actually still in print.

I would say The Time Machine, Gremlins, and the 70s King Kong.
-
OMFG I can't believe it! Hope they soon do the sequels, too (especially the second one)! I got HTTYD plus both of those LOST albums (somehow I only have the "Final Episodes" album on CD!), and that Vertigo re-recording for just 5 bucks!

From now on you shall be called Bryon that is called Bryon.

Yea that's why they should only be releases as bonuses on a bonus disc, not part of a main program. And yea, I'm sure a competent producer could make them sound much better than the producer of the box did - or even locate an earlier generation element from before the singing was married to the orchestral recording
Oh yeah, I wouldn't expect the instrumentals, for example, to be integrated into the main program. Although... Intrada has done that a few times with alternates, having V1 and V2 next to each other in the main program which creates a bad listening experience... but I digress. Thing is, in the case of Nightmare, you can't even just simply plop the instrumentals in place of the songs without doing some editing. I forget the exact issues now (I edited my instrumental-only version years ago), but there had to be a lot of fake fadeouts and etc created in order to make it work. So it'd be nice to have a version where that wouldn't be an issue to reprogram!

Yea I picked up the exclusive Best Buy version of that, which had more demos than the "normal" version... and this was after we already got that one demo on Music For A Darkened Theater 2, and before we got all the demos in the box
A 2CD set would be great
Disc 1 = The complete score with all the songs throughoutDisc 2 = The demo versions of all the songs + the instrumental versions of the songs
Easy peasy!
Now that is what I would want for a "Nightmare Before Xmas" release. Like most people, I was able to get the music from that insane box set through other means, and was so happy to get the instrumental versions of the songs. I made my own edit to have a music-only version of the entire score, but... the instrumental versions of the songs were clearly taken from film stems with volume dips and other issues for some of them. I had to do some extensive editing to make anything truly fluid out of it. Hopefully if they do include those instrumentals they revisit the source of them and maybe fix them up better or even use a better source if possible. Otherwise it'll be a little of a letdown, but I would still be all for getting the release to have it physically (or I guess "legally" digitally haha).

Well, thanks to my comment, we now know there is no orchestra-only version of "Chicken In The Pot" that exists, according to him. Haha!

Being a fan of Jurassic (my avatar and sig speaks for themselves lol), I was mostly happy with this! I do wish this had been a more adult animated show, but then again this was never advertised to have been a dark and serious anime-type thing.
But it was a lot of fun! And not SO childish that it was hard to watch at all (unlike the Lego animated shows for Jurassic that are just TOO cute and overly goofy for me to ever watch more than a minute before deciding not to continue). I wouldn't scream that it was perfect like some people in the Jurassic fanbase are saying, but it was better than expected AND has potential to get even more interesting with plot threads it has introduced. Also, for anyone who ever played the Telltale Game for Jurassic Park, there are some interesting similarities with approach that I actually thought were really cool. And the endless easter eggs were of course awesome, haha.
Music was pretty good, too! It's really interesting... the Williams callbacks are WAY more frequent than Giacchino! In fact I BARELY remember any callbacks to his themes, really. Given the color schemes and other choices the show made, it definitely feels like it caters to fans of the original Jurassic Park more than Jurassic World. It just happens to take place in World instead lol. And while it felt largely synthetic, the orchestrations and ideas in this score were really fun, including the original material. There is a scene in a underground river that has a really nice musical moment that is original music. For Williams, well, the best reprise of the main JP "Island" theme happens in the very first episode as they arrive to the camp and... it honestly gave me more chills than how Giacchino used any Williams references in Jurassic World or Fallen Kingdom! Oh and the JP carnivore motif is all over the place! LOL. It's hilarious to me because Giacchino still has not used it at all in the World films, as far as I can recall! It almost reminded me of how Don Davis used it frequently in Jurassic Park 3. I do think it's odd that Giacchino's Indominus Rex theme/motif didn't make an appearance given the dinosaur is in the show... or maybe I just missed it.
I hope there is at least a promo album soon!

Yeah, I am of course upset they decided to cancel. Sure, likely due to cost... but I mean, they already built so many of the puppets they would need. What's a couple more skeksis and a garthim army gonna do to their budget?
I really hope another streaming service picks this up. Some of those plot threads need to be tied up!

Apart from Solo not being a universally liked film (I thought it was actually pretty good, although with some issues), I think the soundtrack for it is largely liked/loved within the soundtrack community. So here's hoping that will be enough to get some people to go after this. Plus, it DOES help that it features more Williams music. They should play that bit up a little more for the nerds like us.

Solo and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were my favorite scores of 2018, and some of the best in the past decade imo. As others have noted, Solo didn't even have an FYC or any other "leaks", so having this arrive is so freaking awesome! I guess the possibility of a limited CD version is out?
Is this the future of film music anyhow, to have digital releases? I wouldn't be opposed anymore, honestly. General music is widely available online, and film music should be too. And not JUST the OST releases, like is currently the model. These complete releases should have the same availability in the modern digital market so an aspiring 15 year old can use their parent's PayPal to listen to... well in this real case, the complete release of Solo! Instead of scouring on ebay for for out of print CD copies and paying 3 times as much on their poor parent's account and then have to explain themselves when the CD comes in the mail.
For example: Jurassic Park and The Lost World. The set is out of print, and fetches for a pretty penny now. The Amazon digital release is only the OST (edit: in JP's case there is also the 25th anniversary edition, but we know that wasn't complete either!). So this fictional 15 year old I speak of can never hear the wonders of "Race to the Dock" and "Ripples"?! NO. lol.
Anyway, congrats on Solo! Powell should be proud of this score. It's my favorite of his next to his How To Train Your Dragon trilogy. Hey... can THOSE be next, please?

Got it from this seller. Looks like they only have one left right now.

So today I got in the mail today via eBay what is a NEW CD release of this score! I went to Orlando last year and never saw this anywhere, so this must have just come out this year or something. It is a legit CD release from someone in the Orlando area, so I am sure it is a park exclusive. Take a look!
EDIT: Some more info from the seller: Unfortunately Disney is not carrying them at the parks they have done away with all their music albums and cd's sadly. We have to order them through disney records and they too are no longer issuing them so were not sure if their sold out for now or just discontinued. Some of the park music is starting to come out on vinyl only such as the Tiki Room and Star Wars Land.

I had a feeling there wasn't much missing from the OST for this one, but wow I didn't realize just how little! Unless of course there was music left off of both releases, but to be fair unlike the first two films I haven't really compared. But hearing the slim new material from this FYC, I'm not real disappointed any of it was left off.
Now if only we could have had an FYC for Solo... [crime of the century]...

Have any FSM releases been re-released by any other labels since they have gone OOP? The only one I can think of is Superman, but I am sure there are more.
Oh and anyone who doesn't have Barry's King Kong, Gremlins, or Twilight Zone are missing out! Those are all amazing releases!
