  1. Oh yeah, I wouldn't expect the instrumentals, for example, to be integrated into the main program. Although... Intrada has done that a few times with alternates, having V1 and V2 next to each other in the main program which creates a bad listening experience... but I digress. Thing is, in the case of Nightmare, you can't even just simply plop the instrumentals in place of the songs without doing some editing. I forget the exact issues now (I edited my instrumental-only version years ago), but there had to be a lot of fake fadeouts and etc created in order to make it work. So it'd be nice to have a version where that wouldn't be an issue to reprogram!
  2. Now that is what I would want for a "Nightmare Before Xmas" release. Like most people, I was able to get the music from that insane box set through other means, and was so happy to get the instrumental versions of the songs. I made my own edit to have a music-only version of the entire score, but... the instrumental versions of the songs were clearly taken from film stems with volume dips and other issues for some of them. I had to do some extensive editing to make anything truly fluid out of it. Hopefully if they do include those instrumentals they revisit the source of them and maybe fix them up better or even use a better source if possible. Otherwise it'll be a little of a letdown, but I would still be all for getting the release to have it physically (or I guess "legally" digitally haha).
  3. Well, thanks to my comment, we now know there is no orchestra-only version of "Chicken In The Pot" that exists, according to him. Haha!
  4. Being a fan of Jurassic (my avatar and sig speaks for themselves lol), I was mostly happy with this! I do wish this had been a more adult animated show, but then again this was never advertised to have been a dark and serious anime-type thing. But it was a lot of fun! And not SO childish that it was hard to watch at all (unlike the Lego animated shows for Jurassic that are just TOO cute and overly goofy for me to ever watch more than a minute before deciding not to continue). I wouldn't scream that it was perfect like some people in the Jurassic fanbase are saying, but it was better than expected AND has potential to get even more interesting with plot threads it has introduced. Also, for anyone who ever played the Telltale Game for Jurassic Park, there are some interesting similarities with approach that I actually thought were really cool. And the endless easter eggs were of course awesome, haha. Music was pretty good, too! It's really interesting... the Williams callbacks are WAY more frequent than Giacchino! In fact I BARELY remember any callbacks to his themes, really. Given the color schemes and other choices the show made, it definitely feels like it caters to fans of the original Jurassic Park more than Jurassic World. It just happens to take place in World instead lol. And while it felt largely synthetic, the orchestrations and ideas in this score were really fun, including the original material. There is a scene in a underground river that has a really nice musical moment that is original music. For Williams, well, the best reprise of the main JP "Island" theme happens in the very first episode as they arrive to the camp and... it honestly gave me more chills than how Giacchino used any Williams references in Jurassic World or Fallen Kingdom! Oh and the JP carnivore motif is all over the place! LOL. It's hilarious to me because Giacchino still has not used it at all in the World films, as far as I can recall! It almost reminded me of how Don Davis used it frequently in Jurassic Park 3. I do think it's odd that Giacchino's Indominus Rex theme/motif didn't make an appearance given the dinosaur is in the show... or maybe I just missed it. I hope there is at least a promo album soon!
  5. Yeah, I am of course upset they decided to cancel. Sure, likely due to cost... but I mean, they already built so many of the puppets they would need. What's a couple more skeksis and a garthim army gonna do to their budget? I really hope another streaming service picks this up. Some of those plot threads need to be tied up!
  6. Apart from Solo not being a universally liked film (I thought it was actually pretty good, although with some issues), I think the soundtrack for it is largely liked/loved within the soundtrack community. So here's hoping that will be enough to get some people to go after this. Plus, it DOES help that it features more Williams music. They should play that bit up a little more for the nerds like us.
  7. Solo and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were my favorite scores of 2018, and some of the best in the past decade imo. As others have noted, Solo didn't even have an FYC or any other "leaks", so having this arrive is so freaking awesome! I guess the possibility of a limited CD version is out? Is this the future of film music anyhow, to have digital releases? I wouldn't be opposed anymore, honestly. General music is widely available online, and film music should be too. And not JUST the OST releases, like is currently the model. These complete releases should have the same availability in the modern digital market so an aspiring 15 year old can use their parent's PayPal to listen to... well in this real case, the complete release of Solo! Instead of scouring on ebay for for out of print CD copies and paying 3 times as much on their poor parent's account and then have to explain themselves when the CD comes in the mail. For example: Jurassic Park and The Lost World. The set is out of print, and fetches for a pretty penny now. The Amazon digital release is only the OST (edit: in JP's case there is also the 25th anniversary edition, but we know that wasn't complete either!). So this fictional 15 year old I speak of can never hear the wonders of "Race to the Dock" and "Ripples"?! NO. lol. Anyway, congrats on Solo! Powell should be proud of this score. It's my favorite of his next to his How To Train Your Dragon trilogy. Hey... can THOSE be next, please?
  8. Got it from this seller. Looks like they only have one left right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Disney-World-Pandora-World-of-Avatar-Soundtrack-NEW-CD/313154387291
  9. So today I got in the mail today via eBay what is a NEW CD release of this score! I went to Orlando last year and never saw this anywhere, so this must have just come out this year or something. It is a legit CD release from someone in the Orlando area, so I am sure it is a park exclusive. Take a look! EDIT: Some more info from the seller: Unfortunately Disney is not carrying them at the parks they have done away with all their music albums and cd's sadly. We have to order them through disney records and they too are no longer issuing them so were not sure if their sold out for now or just discontinued. Some of the park music is starting to come out on vinyl only such as the Tiki Room and Star Wars Land.
  10. I had a feeling there wasn't much missing from the OST for this one, but wow I didn't realize just how little! Unless of course there was music left off of both releases, but to be fair unlike the first two films I haven't really compared. But hearing the slim new material from this FYC, I'm not real disappointed any of it was left off. Now if only we could have had an FYC for Solo... [crime of the century]...
  11. But... but... I like David Arnold's theme for Godzilla.
  12. Yeah the music was the only thing that was really a step down for the show, apart from some weaker visuals in comparison to the film at times. I also think I liked the film versions of Monty and Josaphine, too. Otherwise, both Carey's and Harris's Olafs were great. I honestly think they tie in performance; and I think Carey could have carried his take just as well if he had been allowed to in future films. I LOVE how this show turned out, and yet I still really enjoy the film version.
  13. Is this movie not coming to IMAX? I wanted to pre-order my tickets for it but see no IMAX screenings anywhere in my area and even beyond. 3D is really scarce as well. I usually don't care for 3D especially, but this series is one of the few where it really excels. Anyone else notice this? (I'm in the United States in California)
  14. This may change after seeing the film, but after a couple listens this one is probably ranked 3rd best in the scores. Not that it's bad in any way! It just doesn't feel quite as memorable to me overall, despite some highlights. Oddly enough, I don't think the song is quite as bad now as I once thought, haha. But still my least favorite of those three. I definitely do feel like there are superior orchestrations at play here, but there is nothing that quite sticks with me like the majority of the first score did, and it lacks the extreme energy and even emotion at times that the second score had. It has a different mood overall, which is great for what it is, but not what I was expecting. There was just enough references to the older themes, but I also expected more of those as well. However, I can assume whatever happens in the film may have dictated those choices. Also, I do echo the person that said the villain's theme sounds like Owen/Blue's theme from Jurassic World. LOL. Not exact, but pretty similiar. I think it works fine in its use. I'm happy to hear that there doesn't seem to be much missing from the album. Powell is really good at making the right choices on his albums and filling the CDs to max capacity! Even though there are some nice bits, I have always been content with the albums for the prior Dragon scores, and even Solo.
  15. Definitely prefer the original title haha. Can't wait for the rest of the score! I am so mad I won't be able to go to the early screenings on the second in the US! ARG
  16. It's not more random than anything from the original film haha.
  17. So now having heard the extended samples, I still feel the same about the score: highly anticipated, but not blow away yet. However, certain tracks I felt like were about to get good right when they cut off, haha, so of course we still haven't really heard anything. That song though... echoing Richard's remark. Now that I have heard more of it, I may like it even less. Such a downgrade. Even if they weren't going to use one of Powell's themes this time as a basis, couldn't they have come up with something that felt more organically complimentary (such as what they did for the first film)? I can tell that the lyrics themselves seem to fit, but I just don't like how it sounds at all.
  18. I'm joining the "love" camp, for the score/songs and film. To be fair, I was never huge on Mary Poppins, even as a kid despite having seen it then (and re-watched it before seeing the new film). Sure, the original does some things better but, color me crazy, I feel like I connected with this film more. The songs and the film have several ways of tapping into depression/sadness, even the livelier ones if you pay attention, that I thought was both clever and meaningful. It definitely has some genuine heart and effort put into it above the usual "cash grab" attempts at reigniting a classic film. I'll take this any day over the BORING-looking remakes of Dumbo, Lion King, and Aladdin that all previewed before this film! At least here there was something new... and something catchy.
  19. I really like the suite! Is anything presented in it much different than heard elsewhere in the film score, from those that have seen it?
