Guys, check out the other performances from that concert with the choir. Imperial March sounds so badass, almost reminds me of Verdi's Dies Irae:

Going to the Saturday show, can't wait!!

Here's hoping for another great picture with him, too.

Just a head's up, I doubt that cover is real. It's a piece of fan-art by "Simon Z".

We are sad to report that Ralph McQuarrie has passed away today at his home at the age of 82.

Hm, the few autographs of his that I have aren't as readable as that one (like the "o" being so visible in "John" on yours), but that doesn't mean it's fake.

Ah, sorry, didn't see the previous post. Thank you!

I've just checked the Boston Pops website because they'd announced their next season's dates. I went to May on the calendar and looked at the dates around the end of the month..... and none of the events were Williams. In fact, he's not listed anywhere in the month, and the calendar shows a lot of May already has Pops performances planned already.
What's going on??

Anyone here know how to contact composer Edward Shearmur by any chance? I haven't been able to find anything, no official sites at all.

Three pieces from Schindler's List? Is it at all likely one of those is Yeroushalayim Shel Zahav?
No. That would be 'Theme', 'Remembrances' and 'Jewish Town'.
Oh. Thanks.

Between the following two concepts, which would be more attractive to you as a concert-goer?
A) The entire score performed live to picture (thus, only 1 movie for the evening)
B) A night of film clips themed along the lines of, for example, all western scores, sci-fi scores, the music of Paramount, etc. – some clips during the evening which are presented first without music (dialogue, sound effects only) then with the music synced by the orchestra (giving the audience an opportunity to experience the power of what music can do for a film) – I believe Williams has done this with the Shark and Cage Fugue from Jaws?
For a concert-goer, the latter would be the more interesting and enjoyable. Williams does it every year for his Hooray for Hollywood series in Boston.
For an average family evening event, a whole film might be more engaging and sense-making for kids.

Welcome to JWfan, my friend.

Although I don't think it's the most popular of scores here, Titanic would be rather interesting, since the score progresses from calm in the beginning to gradually becoming one for an action flick as the ship starts to sink. The only issue would be Sissel's vocals for the main theme. However, with anticipation slowly growing for the re-release next year, it'd be an interesting choice!
How do these kinds of performances/screenings work, anyways? You'd need the sheet music for the entire score, and the film with no music.

I know it was discussed earlier, but I didn't see the scene until last night...
The DA in the Room of Requirement: the one scene I didn't like. At least, the beginning of it. It felt extraordinarily forced for two reasons:
1. The INCREDIBLY awkward statement of Hedwig's Theme when Neville revealed Harry... it didn't fit AT ALL.
2. The way everyone stood up and started clapping IMMEDIATELY.
That scene was my biggest gripe, I think.

WOW... not much to say right now, brain spinning. Still, Quick thoughts:
There was a bug going across the projector, and the audience laughed at dumb times. Still, Harry Potter ended brilliantly: a great time with friends and fandom.
Some notes:
-It really did feel like a Part 2. It started so quickly with so little setup, it threw me off until the beginning of Gringotts. Not used to that for a Potter film, even if I obviously knew it was Part 2.
-Gringotts felt really quick, rushed almost.
-They mentioned Lupin had a son... once. And at the most random time. Non-readers must be so confused.
-Bellatrix's death... iffy.
-Voldemort's death... SO MUCH more epic.
-The final duel... AMAZING. It makes sense Harry could deflect those killing curses since the wand wasn't Voldemort's. So it's all good! I loved it, especially when Voldemort started beating on Harry. I can tell where they cut the "Why do you live" scene, so maybe someone will insert that back in upon the DVD release in a fan edit.
-The Malfoy's had great closure... simple, but effective.
-Voldemort confronting the good guys after Harry's "death" was great. Just as I'd pictured it, except I'd always imagined it on a field right between the castle and the Forest.
-King's Cross... just as simple as I'd pictured it, though I always imagined Harry and Dumbledore seated during their conversation. Voldemort's soul was much more disgusting than I'd imagined it, but better, actually.
-Dumbledore's backstory... an awkward subplot in Part 1 and 2 that never went anywhere.
-Some parts of the battle felt rushed... Aberforth's patronus, the early Snape memories.
Just........... wow. Can't wait to see it countless more times!!!!!!
As for my costume...
These are the best two pics I have at the moment:

Got a lot of looks, scared a couple kids, and right when I was about to leave after the movie, two women wanted a picture with me! My whole group of friends dressed up, TONS of fun!!!!!

Is there any story behind it, or just one of those officially unspoken things?
-
This may be more a statement than a question, but surely I'm not the only one to have noticed the huge similarities in themes between "The Turbulent Years / The Meeting with Mao" from "Nixon" and much of the Star Wars prequels? There are note-for-note statements of what would one day be "Across the Stars", a bit of "Duel of the Fates", even some Imperial March.

Download link is dead. Anyone still have them?

Regarding Luke and Leia variations, I checked out the ones on iTunes and there aren't any that really sound dramatically different besides horrible electronic orchestra ones, a dance remix, and that piano one mentioned a few posts ago.

...did that site help?
Also, it should be noted Harrison Ford narrated the ESB trailer.

Is that Keisuke album good?
I think so. Very nice and calming stripped down versions of most of the classics.
It is one of the best re-recordings of JWs most lyrical themes with oboe taking the center stage. Truly brilliant reinterpretation by world class musicians. As a bonus JW himself performs the piano solo in the last piece, Days Between from Stepmom.
I thought he played the piano on the whole album.

Anyone have any suggestions for good, but different, recordings of "Luke and Leia"? After hearing the version on "Keisuke Wakao Plays the Music of John Williams", I'd love to hear some other variations, even if only just an orchestra with a different sound.

Cymbal player thinks that Star Wars Main Title is the first encore, but really Yoda's Theme is first...

Well that's awkward.

Well my point was that it's most likely a fake cover, not that they're stealing fan art.
