By using that logic, KotCS doesn't deserve the Oscar because Raiders, ToD, and LC deserve it more.

Alright, let's do this. Here is the list of scenes from The Dark Knight, and the corresponding music that is in each scene too. I made this so that I could re-cut the score as I did with Batman Begins to put each track in order. Sure it's nice owning the original CD, but I am also a nerd for music in chronological order...
Excellent job. By the way, did you count how many music in the film are still unreleased in the OST? Because we will have 50mins of new music. In this case, maybe we could (in other words, you could) calculate whether the End Title will be include in the 2CD set or not. Would you mind doing that?
Well the current TDK CD is 1:13:32. Add "50 minutes of new music" and we get 2:03:32. According to IMDB the film is 2 hours 32 long including end credits.
From this alone I cannot tell whether or not the new cd will include the end credits. The entire film is not saturated with music (the batpod chase is almost entirely musicless, for example), so don't worry about the 29 minutes unaccounted for (actually it would be more than that considering some CD cues aren't even in the film).
Maybe the 7ish minutes of End Credits will be ripped from a DVD just like Batman Begins, and that would be no bad thing if it means other music goes on this set.
I haven't had the film on my computer for many months now, so couldn't tell you how much of the film contains music, and how much doesn't...just looking at the CD isn't enough to work things out.

I don't think a break down of this score can get any more in-depth than that.
That wasn't even analysing the score per se, it was merely pointing out what goes where...
Wow if that isn't fanboyism, I dunno what is.A little bit of Zimmer on a page of John Williams never hurt anyone ;-)
Mind you, I love Williams' scores for not being a mish-mash like Zimmer's. I don't have to do what I just did for John Williams, but I've re-cut Pirates 1, Batman Begins and bits of TDK because of their stupid layout.

Yes TPM, despite it's flaws sounds like a genuine Star Wars score.
TPM was Williams and the whole production team trying to hark back to the old days. AotC was them moving in a new direction and not doing a great job of it. RotS was them again moving in a new direction but this time doing a wonderful job.
I think TPM had a good general "sound" to it - it sounds like Star Wars, though through a slightly different looking (hearing) glass. Duel of the Fates is a totally left field track that blows me away all the time too. Proof that Williams can score some serious poo.
The problem with Attack of the Clones was that it wasn't a serious movie...or it was difficult to take seriously when the leading romance was a whiney high-school one. Across the Stars is a beautiful piece of music...but then how do you score that against saccharine picnic scenes and reminiscences of school-days? And that was the leading plot point, against what, Obi-Wan doing some investigative work which isn't exactly all that dramatic. I love the Droid Invasion piece too, and wish he had made more of that.
Revenge of the Sith is a good piece of work considering what the film was like...though I wouldn't call it a "wonderful" job...

28. Gordon returns - has a WSS? bit between the two cues mentioned in the list above
30. Good news/Jim Jr - uplifting theme followed by the father theme from Batman Begins...this leads into the interrogation
31. Interrogation - starts with the drum beats that open the film, and has a little bit of WSS? to it. This then goes into the opening WSS drone sound.
33. Joker escaped - there should be a period of about 90 seconds in the middle of Agent of Chaos which is sombre and very atmospheric as opposed to musical
34/35 - if there's music here, I don't remember it
37. Joker speaks with Two-Face - there's a moment which has the same WSS? music from the interrogation (before the fighting starts)
38-41 - A Dark Knight bits plus new music.
42-43 - takes bits of Like a Dog Chasing Cars, skips bits, and adds a bit from Antrozous from Batman Begins. The complete piece (just about) appears near the start of the End Credits though.
45. Batman stops the Joker - music from A Dark Knight plus the familiar Batman Begins ending.
46. There should be a bit at the end of Watch the World Burn which is the same as the start of the End Credits

The first two of these have obvious placement. Bank Robbery is the first scene, and then Buyer Beware is purely the scarecrow encounter, or also includes the bit of I'm Not a Hero that comes beforehand. So that's 1 and 2 covered.
I am however stuck as for how the other tracks fit in...
A Watchful Guardian could be the showdown between Two-Face, Gordon and Batman with the added "whoomph" at the end, but I doubt that would do it justice. More likely is that it is the final scene comprised of A Dark Knight and Aggressive Expansion, which leads into the End Credits, and so we get no End Credits. Or it's the End Credits. Or it's both. Or it's all three! In any case, hopefully scene 48 would be covered by this.
"We Are Tonight's Entertainment" and "You're Gonna Love Me"...I would have thought that these go together...but it's hard to tell given the order of the tracks. Could We Are Tonight's Entertainment actually cover the fight after Introduce a Little Anarchy, so including the Batman Begins ending? Or is it going to be the run up to the party including Aggressive Expansion?
You're Gonna Love Me *must* be the party scene in some shape or form. And that would cover scene 19. As for WATE, that would either cover 45, or 17/18.
If it covers the earlier part, then maybe The Ferries is a humungous cue which takes in not only Like a Dog Chasing Cars, but also Introduce a Little Anarchy, plus all the A Dark Knight music around it. That would cover 38 through to 45...but I think it's more likely that it covers 38-43, and then if A Watchful Guardian includes the End Credits, we could get the building fight music from that!
You Complete Me...I can only see this as being part of the interrogation scene in some shape or form. Either it's the brief bit of Why So Serious? that comes before Agent of Chaos...or it's the WSS? + Agent of Chaos + the little missing bit in the middle. I think this covers 31, but hopefully also 30.
Halfway to Hong Kong totally confuses me with its title, considering that all of the Hong Kong music is on the CD, so maybe it's a collection of it all together, or adding something I've missed.
Chance could be either the WSS? style hospital bit...but I think it's more likely it's the bits with Rachel saying goodbye and "I am the Batman" and all that. Think of Dent giving Rachel his coin, and maybe that's where the title comes from? That would cover 25 and 26.
Again going with the order of the tracks, Decent Men... would be, if anything, the party music before Joker arrives, or the dinner scene, or a collection of music based on Wayne, Dent and Gordon...that would cover 17, or maybe 7.
So by all of this reasoning, scenes without music would include:
4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 16, 22, 23, 27, 28, (34, 35,) 37, 46
Unnecessary music scenes would be the brief Joker bits, and the little extras like at the end of Watch the World Burn, so I guess we can discount a few, leaving us with:
4, 7, 12, 23
So, in conclusion (finally) I think that when they call this a "complete" score...we are in fact going to retain music that is mashed up a little...probably including A Dark Knight, Like a Dog Chasing Cars, Why So Serious, I'm Not a Hero...etc...and so we are not going to get a chronological score, or at the very least, we won't be getting a "complete" chronological score.
That was a ramble and a half.

One real problem I have atm with the TDK "complete" score is we don't know exactly what the tracks contain. If it contains all the music from the film, a lot of it may be kept as suite tracks (example: Harvey Two-Face) in the original cd, and the extra stuff is just music that wasn't there before. Or they're going to expand on the original tracks. Like will "A Watchful Guardian" be the opening of A Dark Knight with a bit of Aggressive Expansion added onto it as per the final scene of the movie? Or will it solely be end credits seeing as the aforementioned was on the original cd. Or will it be both???

3 and a half legendary almost complete scores verses one very enjoyable and apparently complete score.
When you look at it realistically like I explained in an earlier post, it's a decent price. Don't compare it to Indy, because quality of music is irrelevant, and Indy was hella-cheap for what it was. Have you considered that the Blue Box is about 3 times the price of the Indy set, yet it only has 3 more discs of music? Now look who's being overpriced, JOHNNY WILLIAMS!!!
Look at it this way then. I bought the Fellowship of the Ring complete collection (3 cds + DVD + book about the music/motifs + awesome case) which was a complete 3 and a half hour score with perfect presentation...for about £30. Last time I checked on amazon the TDK set was £35.

Ha, no problem. It's interesting how much film goes in between the two scenes (sick trike and the brachiosaur wake-up), and more importantly, how much music!

I already have my holy grail: The Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings.
Having said that there are two soundtracks after this Indy one that I would love to have a complete score for.
Batman Begins(I've heard enough opinions about this already)
The tracks on the official soundtrack are jumbled up, and despite me having recut and rearranged the entire thing, there are still cues and tracks from the film that should have been included, such as the suit up before Rachel visits Arkham, and the monorail fight.
Jurassic Park
One of my favourite soundtracks/films, though has its flaws.
Again, like Batman, some of the tracks are mixed weirdly (for example My Friend, The Brachiosaurus starts with the Triceratops scene), and there are little bits of music that could be included. Take for instance the brief fanfare when the T-Rex appears at the end of the film?

Anyone else looking forward to The Two Towers at the end of the year? I can't imagine a Christmas without Lord of the Rings. Wouldn't it be great if they released all the music from the first film too! I mean, I enjoyed the general release soundtrack and everything, but for me it just wasn't enough. Unfortunately I can't see anyone pulling out all the stops on a masterwork that's bound to be ignored...

Saving Private Ryan
Both major battles were horrifying/amazing...and then there was the snipe-off after Vin Diesel got shot.
Schindler's List

Anyone know THE DARK KNIGHT? The track names are pretty vague... they're all lines from the movie, and they don't seem to match up.
The problem with The Dark Knight's ordering is the same that Batman Begins had. Some of the tracks are a compilation of cues from different parts of the film, and the track names have nothing to do with the music (except perhaps "Harvey Two-Face").
Anyway, as spoiler-free as possible, here are some ideas to play with which I will not be able to complete without much studying of the film:
Complete tracks are: Blood on My Hands; A Little Push; I am The Batman; And I Thought My Jokes Were Bad; Agent of Chaos (very nearly complete); Introduce a Little Anarchy; Watch the World Burn.
In order (or what I've worked out so far):
I'm Not a Hero: 0:00-1:40 (straight after the bank scene finishes until the parking lot)
Blood on My Hands: 0:00-2:17 (Gordon meets Dent; and Bruce and Fox at the board meeting)
I'm Not a Hero: 1:40-2:50 (appears twice in the film, this first time is when Bruce talks with Alfred about an "alibi")
I'm Not a Hero: 2:50-6:35 (the Hong-Kong mission)
Aggressive Expansion: 2:00-4:36 (the montage up to Joker crashing the party)
I am The Batman: 0:00-2:00 (Alfred tells Bruce about Burma)
I'm Not a Hero: 1:40-2:50 (second time this appears in the film - the bullet analysis scene, and Reece talks to Fox about R&D)
A Little Push: 0:00-2:43 (Dent and Batman both interrogating people looking for the Joker)
Agent of Chaos: 0:00-4:43 (Batman races to two-fifty 52nd street)
[the Joker music at this point of the track should be 90 seconds not 15 seconds]
Agent of Chaos: 4:43-6:55 (the letter)
And I Thought My Jokes Were Bad: 0:00-2:29 (the scene that starts "Will you be wanting the batpod sir?")
Like a Dog Chasing Cars: 0:00-2:08 (near the end, Batman wants to enter the building before Gordon's men)
Introduce a Little Anarchy: 0:00-3:43 (Gordon's men enter the building and Batman races to the top of it) - straight after this track there's a bit of "A Dark Knight" approximately 9:00-12:00 but I'm still working on that...
Watch the World Burn: 0:00-3:48 (Gordon says that "he's sorry")
A Dark Knight: 0:40-2:27/Aggresive Expansion: 0:17-0:44 these two bits of track should be joined together and are the last bits of music before the end credits appear.
So that's that so far. I'm still trying to work out how "Why So Serious?" breaks down (which is very difficult), though a lot of it appears in the Bank Heist, and the very end should link up with the beginning of "I'm Not a Hero". "Harvey-Two Face" is another tough one to break down because it appears everywhere in the film. The start of "Always a Catch" is when the Joker is shouting "Hit me", but I don't know at what point that ends, and I think it needs to be joined to something else. And then "Like a Dog Chasing Cars" has a lot of music that isn't in the film, and "A Dark Knight" is tough to split when I don't know how the end credits music sounds...
I hope this helps to some degree...

The first four minutes of Harvey Two-Face are boring as hell. I like the twist in the theme in "Like A Dog Chasing Cars", but as a whole, it sounds like nothing but a 60 minute examination of "Molossus".
If you guys are being anal and analytic about the score, I'll throw this one out there: a direct extract from Molossus features maybe once in one track, and is layered with some of the new ideas that the composers are using. The underlying recurring track in the score seems to be Myotis (which plays when Bruce escapes from the League of Shadows).
Anyway, just because this music appears on the cd doesn't make it the best in the film. With Begins, we could have done without an extended Lasiurus piece and instead gone for the monorail fight, or included the Batman fanfare after he gets Falcone, or even included that segment of the opera Mefistofele, for example. The Dark Knight is a 2 and a half hour film - and that doesn't leave much room to translate into 70 minutes of music.
Having said that, as a whole I like what I'm hearing. It's got a good vibe, and I'm sure it will work well with the film. You don't need vibrant themes, no matter how much HZ bulls***s in interviews about there being a vague Batman theme, to create a rich film experience...

Curse of the Black Pearl was a fun soundtrack. A little similar throughout but set the tone for the whole series.
Dead Man's Chest soundtrack was very, very dire. Sure "Jack Sparrow" is one of my favourite pieces ever. "Davy Jones" is nice, and "The Kraken" is alright, the rest of it is a disaster considering the music they could have put in it. As for the "Bonus Track" of the Tieseto remix...while interesting I think it should not have been included.
At World's End however is definitely one of my favourite soundtrack albums of all time. The use of the various parts of the love theme throughout; the complexity of some of the cues created; and the sheer beauty of it all make it stand out. Although the film wasn't great (enjoyable, just not special), I agree that the music is some of Hans' best.

I don't know if anybody wanted this, but I tried to sequence the Batman Begins soundtrack. I'm 99% sure that I'm wrong in at least one spot, so any corrections/help would be very much appreciated.

Wahey your work will aid mine but a couple of points.
For the first track I use the first 48 seconds as "opening titles", have the section of track 5 as a separate track, and then play the rest of track 1.
(ie Vespertilio 0:00-0:48; Artibeus 2:31-4:20; Vespertilio 0:48-2:53)
Track 4 is missing the rest of Macrotus. It's annoying how the tracks are edited on soundtrack, but your track 4 should be (approximately) Eptesicus 0:00-1:58; Macrotus 5:01-7:36. So that would be your error for track 15. The rest of macrotus is what plays when Bruce is at the court hearing.
Track 5 I don't think the first 50seconds are in the film, but I kept it anyway
Regarding your track 18...in the film it cuts out at about 2:25 and then plays something different...and I think from 2:39-3:59 of Antrozous, that's the section that plays when Batman speaks to Jim Gordon at his home, so that would go around the "missing weapon" track at some point.
Otherwise good job I guess. Also I've downloaded the "end credits" cue which was ripped from dvd which is so much better than the end of Lasiurus. Having said that, it's an annoying soundtrack with lots of good stuff left out...

I've done Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl, but in my opinion there's no point really in switching tracks around because the sequencing is poor (example - going from the campfire drinking straight into the underwater march). Generally it's aesthetically nicer in the way it was originally presented. Also some tracks overlap by a couple of seconds, even if the music before and after aren't related, which is annoying when cutting and pasting...
But anyway here it is in order (having cut up the tracks - take the times slightly approximately):

Looking back through this thread I noticed The Two Towers (years ago:P) was requested.
Despite the joining of cues in the tracks (so you can't achieve full continuity without cutting the files up), here's my take on it:
1. Foundations of Stone
2. The Taming of Smeagol
5. The Uruk-Hai
3. The Riders of Rohan (starts with Eomer meeting the three hunters, but ends with the rebirth of Theoden and him grasping his sword again)
10. Treebeard
4. The Passage of the Marshes
9. The White Rider (opens with the drawing of Saruman's poison from Theoden, but the rest is Gandalf in Fangorn)
7. The Black Gate is Closed
6. The King of the Golden Hall (cuts a section out)
8. Evenstar
12. Helm’s Deep (contains the alert of the wolves of isengard and the arrival at Helm's Deep - no actual action cue)
11. The Leave Taking
13. The Forbidden Pool
14. Breath of Life (opens with Aragorn being awoken by the Grace of the Valar, so should appear earlier, but ends with his return to Helm's Deep)
15. The Hornburg (a general amalgamation of Helm's Deep cues, from the caves to the battle)
16. Forth Eorlingas
17. Isengard Unleashed (should wrap around Forth Eorlingas)

I'm also trying to work on Batman Begins and Pirates 1, but they're tricky. They both split cues, have irrelevant names, and similar sounding music throughout...

Yeah, I'm working on it. That list is quite wrong I'm afraid
My Batman Begins score sounds a lot better in chronological order.
For starters, the first 1:40ish of I'm Not a Hero goes between Bank Robbery and Buyer Beware.
