  1. I don’t know for sure, but I imagine March of the Villains evolved from the Otis scenes in Metropolis. I think Williams saw Ned Beatty’s comedic bumbling footage and began there.
  2. @Holko Journey of Natty Gann. Hopefully it’s for a reissue. I agree with Jay. Rocketeer was Horner putting everything he had into it. No doubt the film’s themes of pilots and aviation sparked something in him. And the Love Theme for Jennifer Connelly is gorgeously lush. Top 2 Horner for me. As great as the expansion is, the original Hollywood Records disc sounds great and is a very satisfying program. I’d recommend it.
  3. 4/26 for ALIEN is no more clever than 5/4 for Star Wars.
  4. National Film Music Day is what we make it to be. 4/20 and May the 4th had to start somewhere. It’s up to us nerds to take this thing to the next level. Fortunately, I have some ideas on how to kick start this holiday, and give it widespread commercial appeal: Try a composer who is new to you. Give an old OST you don’t need anymore to someone you think might play it. Start a composer thread for a composer you think we should pay more attention to. Donate to one of the film music recording Kickstarters. Do a random act of Film Score kindness. Buy Andy a CD of his choice. Think how good you’ll feel. Invent a cocktail that embodies your favorite composer or score. Drive through a bad part of town blasting “Cutthroat Island” with your windows down. Change your instant media profile pic to Giorgio Moroder. See if anyone guesses. Play some Barry or Delerue during sexy time with that special someone. And finally, for the children, invent a mythical “Father Film Score”, “Santa Soundtrack”, “Papa Bande Originale” character. Dress in a turtleneck, beard, glasses, and white ponytail. Carry a conductor’s baton and a sack filled with 1-cent Titanic OST’s you’ve been hoarding. Visit your local village, community center, or public market to the squeals of delight from the little ones.
  5. All joking aside, I think it’s a nice idea to bring more public awareness to the art. Of course for us, every day is Film Score Day. But maybe you can celebrate by buying a CD or vinyl or download for a friend, or coworker, or their child who maybe might get something out of it.
  6. I wish I could disconnect the part of my brain that makes me want to buy this again. Am I the only one like that?
  7. If it’s different, you’re welcome. I bought their last old copy with a cracked up case about a month ago.
  8. Their website is broken. It's stuck on my address and I can't place my order.
  9. Probably because the backers could then say, well if you’re rich enough, why didn’t you finance the whole thing yourself? Or, you could’ve pledged more.
  10. Without a doubt, the best trailer I’ve seen in decades. They purposely “retroed” the colors, gave it a 70s style voiceover, and that subtle freeze frame before the Title fades up and the narrator says the name of the picture. If only the whole movie were like this, but as a hopeless Omen apologist, they got me with this. I can’t believe the studio had the balls to market it like this.
  11. It did to me too! I was thinking it would be prescient in the way Billy Zane’s Phantom was after Crystal Skulls. It sounds good on paper. Time vortexes, a powerful tablet broken into three parts, Easter Island. It’s watchable, but only that.
  12. King Solomon’s Mines actually looks cheaper and has lots of seams showing, but it doesn’t take itself seriously. It knows it’s a Cannon film. Sky Pirates is just really boring, except for a few setpieces, number one being the aerial stunts.
  13. Ah, I stand corrected. Well I love the bongo heavy $6MDM sound, which reminds me of being very young. So I think I’ll be on board for this.
  14. A quick scan through Discogs, and I think this is the first ever score release for Oliver Nelson. Unless I’m not seeing one. I love when the labels present something unusual that’s a labor of love. That’s how gems are discovered.
  15. Kickstarter to record that, please.
  16. Impulse, 1974 William Shatner D. William Grefé “My God, Bones, what have I done?” Seriously, why is this film not better known? My Wife and I watched the Blu-Ray from Grindhouse Films last night. We didn’t have beer or any other substances, but I imagine it wouldn’t make much difference. We were rolling with laughter. Must be seen to be believed. Oh and the actor who played Odd Job shows up as a former prison boyfriend. Hilarity ensues. Shatner is absolutely unhinged playing a psychotic predator in a story that reminds me of The Stepfather. There are no words for the level of Bill’s acting here. But on the Shat-Meter, this rates an 11/10. Seriously, was he on drugs at this time? How in the world did Robert Wise, Nicholas Meyer, and Leonard Nimoy get the performances they got out of Shatner just a few years later? Tons of bonus features and two other full length features are included. This is a safe blind buy for anyone who likes a bad movie that will make you laugh. Impulse, Grindhouse Video
  17. I asked the same thing of my parents the other day. Maybe because an Old Testament story satisfies both Easter and Passover holidays? I’ve never seen it!
  18. I’m jealous too. I wish I could remove it from my memory and enjoy it for the first time again. Really that’s what being a soundtrack fan is, chasing a high.
