Nick Parker got a reaction from Kasey Kockroach in Michael Giacchino's TRAVELOGUE: VOLUME 1 (2020)
It reminds me of his piece for Gloria Cheng: once he finds a vaguely interesting idea, he just can't let it go. So here he riffs on the ever popular Neapolitan progression for minutes, with little variations that turn out more vanilla than anything. I like some of the string writing, and a few of the piano flourishes, but they don't do enough to stay interesting for a whole track.
You're right in that he was channelling an "exotica" sound, and he could probably defend this track saying that he wanted it to be chill and not go wild with all kinds of movement or anything...but all that's here are superficial trappings. I'm sure he had a lot of fun making this.
(An unrelated link to an "exotica"
track that doesn't feature more dynamic instrumentation, chords, melodies, etc. and still remain chill AF...totally non sequitur of me really
)
So in the end this track is a hollow pastiche of better things that has come before...so actually a perfect representation of Giacchino's creative soul!

Didn't take me long to guess who this was in spite of the name change.

Just a week ago I was thinking about Alex North and his score for Prizzi's Honor, which uses various Italian composers like Rossini.

Not really, this is likely only one of tons of similar events that's only news because it' a guy who's been in movies.

Wonder if people are finally going to start caring about this happening all the time in NYC now.

Nick Parker got a reaction from blondheim in WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) 2CD edition from Intrada Records 2020
Ohhhhhhhhhh snap!!!
This is one of my favorite Williams scores...it's like he took the melodrama of Revenge of the Sith and used it as a foundation to spread with some of the most metal writing of his career.
It also shows just how impressive and vast his knowledge of film repertoire can be, as he seamlessly weaves in references to the thick layers of oppressive brass of Akira Ifukube into his wholly modern and unique sensibilities.
One of my favorite tracks, for those unfamiliar (trying to find ad free videos available to non Americans) :

I'll take your word for it, as I still haven't seen it. (Stu clutches his heart in unknown agony somewhere).

That's one thing too that I really liked about the movie, Joe's jealousy and attachment that loosens as he realizes that letting go would be the greatest act of love he could commit.
Extrapolating from Thor, I think this was an experiment of Spielberg on tackling his influences and adorations in a very direct way--ie a remake in this case. It seems that he found more subtle ways to incorporate his filmic loves and influences into "new" projects, such as War Horse, or the 70's thrillers in Munich (and Post, less successfully).

Nick Parker got a reaction from Falstaft in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: 40th Anniversary
I believe, in the original liner notes for Empire Strikes Back, Williams wrote that it was "Luke applying Yoda's training". Of course, we Williams fans should know in the end not to apply very strict "movie theme" logic to his work.

Nick Parker got a reaction from Holko in The Quick Question Thread
When I was in high school, I actually associated one of them as a theme for Quint! Now that I'm older I really like how Williams wrote a good number of motifs that aren't rigidly defined as belonging to someone or something.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence
A beautiful, thoughtful, sensitive, touchingly heartbreaking masterpiece... AND kind of a hot mess.

Well it looks to be a documentary in two parts, one on the 16th, and the other on the 23rd. It appears it will be available on both the DW website, and their YouTube channel.

Nick Parker reacted to TheAvengerButton in Gordy Haab's STAR WARS: JEDI TEMPLE CHALLANGE (2020)
Uhm, no. Sorry. Star Wars as you know is HARD SCI-FI. It's extremely inappropriate for children. Ever hear of how grimdark and awful Warhammer 40K can get? Well guess what, STAR WARS is even worse.
And to have something so ADULT and so in your face violent and dark distilled for kids flies in the face of what STAR WARS is truly about. I mean, have you seen the original STAR WARS? I hate these petulant new fans denying that Star Wars was nothing but gritty, hard sci-fi goodness. Grey, amoral heroes against gray, amoral villains fighting for supremacy in a decaying, shitty world with a focus on fact-based science. None of that Trekkie WARP SPEED shit. We're talking YEARS of travel time between star systems, GENERATION SHIPS travelling the galaxy. We're talking a vast majority of planets with NO BREATHABLE ATMOSPHERE. We are talking NO. SOUND. IN SPACE. Such a strict adherence to scientific accuracy was a sublime choice for JORGE LUKEMAN to follow. Definitely not for kids, but that's why it was so cool when it was first released. And the violence? So much blood, so much gore. So much sex and sexy women who the big brash manly heroes just sex into submission, like how it REALLY IS.
so no, you are obviously wrong about Star Wars content aimed at children. Star Wars is for adults like ME only.
