Gentlemen, please. All of this bickering over semantics on scheduling, scores written in short time frames, it's getting us nowhere.

Can't we all just be reasonable and agree that Giacchino is a mediocre dandy?

Typical reasons for a forum-goer: I was a dumb teenager then who spewed responses to every topic like a sick hyena vomiting its lunch.

Knowing your Twitter fame, I'm surprised they didn't give you an advanced screening! They could sponsor you as Star Wars Dad or something, you could be the next big digital influencer!

if someone spoke to you imitating your accent, syntax and vocabulary, would you be grateful that they pay homage to it? I don't think Williams is very fond of other people using his material. I think great artist encourage other people to develop their own voices and not to canibalize someone else's vocabulary. Notice that Williams tends to speak highly of composers who sound absolutely nothing like him.

Currently playing Alien: Isolation for the first time...I'm still in that wading part of every horror game where they drop you into the world without having to worry about survival,  but man, they must have paused their copies of Alien hundreds of times making this game...I love the little touches they do to commit to that worn 70s version of the future that has given the movie praise for forty years.

And call me easily manipulated, but walking around chiarscuro, metallic corridors with adapted elements from Goldsmith's score from the first movie lurching in your ears like a slow, decsending fog...awww baby, that hits the goosebumps spot.

I also love it when Williams mixes triplets into duplet-passages...with his sense of flow, I think Williams would make an interesting rapper.

Just ordered Nier Automata for £10 via a crafty eBay workaround which someone posted on my favourite bargain hunting site. It's supposed to be £25, but not in Italy it isn't...

Anyway, I keep hearing how this was game of the year for a lot of people, and that it is said to have an absolutely fabulous musical score. I'll let you know.

I've considered this shot many a time over years, because of the impact and objective of Williams' music there. The climatic final scenes of E.T. are sometimes accused of being overblown or "too much", but I think this is to miss the point; see, I don't think Williams is scoring "forever changed" Elliott's personal story in this final shot (and the exhilarating reaction shots preceding it).

The resolution of the "Boy's Life" was already paid due service in the emotional farewells earlier in the scene, that aspect had already wrapped as E.T.'s glowing heart disappeared behind the spiral door.

After that, Williams, in those final closing moments, adopts a Homer-esque stylistic grandeur in his music, it becomes underscore for the ending of an epic poem, a near mythological grand finale only suitable for what is a momentous event not just for a little boy, but for all of mankind. Williams took Spielberg's child catharsis in Elliott's face and juxtaposed it against a backdrop of mankind forever changed - in the event of First Contact being made.

That's why the pounding timpani is there, that's why the music is so transcendent, and that's why Williams is a total beast.
