I'm going with the Mutter.....
I don't love everything they've done together... but this might be my favourite of the bunch. I think her playing style lends itself really well to the piece. There's mischief, excitement and danger in there. And the whole ending just sounds absolutely massive and awesome.
Plus, I was there so being completely biased it wins by default in my head anyway!- BB-8 and Martinland

Since no further info seemed to be popping up, I emailed DG about their plans for this release. I was beginning to wonder if the Blu-ray set would be a Japanese exclusive, with nothing else coming.
Weirdly, their first reply said that it was indeed an exclusive Japanese release, and they only had a digital release planned for elsewhere. But then when I followed up with a quote from their press release the next reply (from a different member of staff) said that physical releases are indeed coming for the international market.
Slight panic, followed by some sort of comfort, but with a lingering taste of concern- Chewy, BB-8 and bollemanneke

Looks like it’s not searchable but the old link works!
Thanks, Big Jim!
Sorry, of course, I should have included the link. I forgot it didn't show up on search last time. Sneaky Mickey!

Well. I've made it to another Friday without any big money expenditure on John Williams stuff. Thank goodness. Guess I'll just take a quick look at jwfa....... aww crap.

Sonically, JEDI sounds so good! Its a shame that the RCA 2CD edition pales in comparison even though it has more music.
There should be nothing guilty about it mate! It's just a pure pleasure
A really great set, and I believe it to be a very important release. The music is obviously wonderful, Jedi sounds top notch, and the book is great too. Very nicely put together, and a memento of a time when it wasn't just our lovely bespoke labels who would put out special releases like this. I remember discovering the display shelves of this in HMV in Manchester.
A well thought out and cared for production. Not as clumsy or as random as... say, a Didier Deutsch release. An elegant release. For a more civilised era.

I reckon he's just leaned back a little from the microphone. But I do hear what you mean now.

I hear the music stop.... then start again. Fairly sure you're just hearing a performance thing. Doesn't sound like a mix thing to me.

It was pretty good, thank you! How about you?
Super busy with gigs and work, so a bit "blink and you miss it" but all very lovely. And we got a beautiful new puppy shaped addition to the family So I'm working round the clock to keep those tiny gnashers away from the precious music collection

I got the 4K UHD release for Christmas! It's nice to legally own this isolated score.
Now to buy a 4K UHD disc player so I can watch the film with this track
I think I'm going to be putting myself in the same boat. Maybe this is the year I finally get round to buying the 4K player.... but I bet I buy the discs first
Hope you had a good Christmas Jay! -

Oh man. Heidi finally sounds amazing. There was always something weird going on with instrument placing and the harp being really up front. Absolutely gorgeous, can't wait!

Guys. I got home and there's no Hook CD waiting for me. I can't believe it. it's really quite a stressful situation.
Absolutely nothing waiting on the doorstep.
I can't help but notice however that the glass in the front door is broken. Some sort of botched delivery attempt? Also, someone's utterly ruined the wallpaper in the hallway. And up the stairs. And they've pinned a note to a bedroom door with a flippin' knife of all things. This is one desperate postal thief. Very strange methods indeed.
Also I'm not entirely certain where the kids are.

The result of Mutter cookie crumbs landing on the manuscript, and then into the vinyl itself.

Found the LP for a fair price but I am seeing a lot of bad comments at Discogs https://www.discogs.com/es/release/23478776-John-Williams-4-Anne-Sophie-Mutter-Boston-Symphony-Orchestra-Williams-Violin-Concerto-No-2
Is it a worthy pressing? Already own this thing on blu ray and cd, so I guess it would be a bit redundant.
My copy was dreadful. Loads of loud pops, and some real horrible distortion in some passages. I emailed to report it, along with a video demonstrating the problems. I was refunded straight away, but they didn't offer to send a replacement.... leading me to believe they know it's a bad batch

Yep, I've got it.
But from your post I'm wondering if you've listened to the FSM!
As far as I can tell/hear/assume.... the Fresh Sounds and the Banda Sonora (european boot essentially) are from the same master as the FSM. Perhaps a small amount of EQ tinkering, but negligible. -

DMR comparison of Theme From Checkmate (compared with the 2015 Fresh Sound release).
It sounds similar to me. I was afraid they would use the same source as the poor-sounding FSM 2006 release. Fortunately, that's not the case. It's good quality stuff!
Left: Fresh Sound Record (2015); Right: the new boxset (2023).
The whole 'Early Scores' CD sounds like a ton of brick, that's so great! This CD is undoubtedly one of the great successes of this box set, mag-ni-fi-cent!
I think you're being unnecessarily mean there about the FSM Checkmate release. It sounds fantastic, about the same as the Fresh Sounds one.
There is of course a horrible mono version available on Spotify and in a few box sets of crime TV music I can think of, and it would have been awful if they'd used that. -

@Jay, I hope the podcast will cover the VINYL project when it was suddenly announced during the films anniversary timeline and whether its delay had something to do with further recollections on the speed etc...? im vaguely remember this...
Also it seems Williams seems to be warming up to the inclusion of songs and source music just as he did with SABRINA release. It's good sign perhaps future project will have the same approach.
I'd also love to know what was behind the announcement of that 3 disc LP set and its sudden cancellation. And then the Mondo release came along too, with the new OST assembly by Mike... which I believe is the only place we have the OST with the Prologue at the correct speed. But that was taken from the same transfers as the 2cd LLL set?
It's always fascinating to hear the stories of how releases came to be, and all the little challenges along the way. It was so crazy hearing about the different sources and releases for Superman, and how each time it was put out a better source seemed to immediately come along! And Neil Bulk said something very similar about Batman, and how the Mondo vinyl is now sort of the "ultimate" version of that. I love hearing those tales.
Can't wait for this set. I'm so excited -
Is it a great release? I have some Mondo releases that are incredible (Jaws is wonderful) but I also had some which were truly terrible. (Rogue One i'm looking at you.)
I heard that Home Alone wasn't a great pressing, and that a lot of problems happened with duplicates of the same LP in some sets. I'd be happy to be proved wrong though! -
At the very least, if the LP's themselves are ok, you might be able to request a replacement cover. I did that once through Presto in the UK. They were great about it, and it seems their distributor had no issue with it.
And Disney have proven themselves to be so reasonable and on top of things...... -

I’d love to chuckle at this, but every time I see a gen AI image, the flame of hope for humanity’s soul I nurture inside me dims another lumen or three.😞
The second one looks like Bradley Cooper, which is all sorts of confusing. So who's hoarding the discs?.... Indy?..... Bradley?....... Bernstein??!

Is that 'not allowed' by the composer, or a more complex legal thing?
I guess John has final say. So that's probably our answer. Could be both.

What, the people who worked at the venue didn't want word spread about how great an event at their venue was?
I mean, not tagging on social media or mentioning anything about the gathering... what did they think you were doing there? There was me about to suggest the organisers were taking this a tad too seriously.
It's not a place that's normally open to outside hire. If we'd used the upstairs room at the "fiddle and pisspot" pub or somewhere, I'm sure they'd love a nice trip advisor write up about how great their facilities are for small gatherings of film music fanatics But the polite request was made, and we all politely obliged. No grumbles. Just a great day.
Did you get the Dial of Destiny soundtrack on the CD format before it sold out?

Yeah, the shipping costs are stupid. But for me, it just brought it inline with an intrada or LLL release..... I need a cheaper hobby
