  1. THE POWER THE SMOKE THE WORM REACHING OUT There's also the very beautiful BUTTERFLIES.
  2. It's not necessary to revisit the film, and if you've never heard this in almost 31 years, then don't bother, but if you do...the original LP had all the stuff one needed. JG adds a new theme for grandma, and has an Native American sound for the Will Sampson character. He also makes use of the hymn GOD IS IN HIS HOLY HEAVEN, to illustrate Kane. The descending "house" motif also makes an appearance. Other than that it's as different from POLTERGEIST, as DAMIEN is from THE OMEN. It's cut from the same cloth, but instead of a bespoke Saville Row suit, one gets an off-the-peg M+S. Still, it is, without a single hint of a shadow of a doubt, the best thing about the film. To add to what Jay has just posted: I'd recommend THE POWER, BUTTERFLIES, and THE SMOKE. If, however, you're expecting TWISTED ABDUCTION, or REBIRTH, you're going to be disappointed.
  3. Ah! TERROR OF THE AUTONS. Nice. Hee-hee. If you want to see Charlotte Rampling topless, you've got to watch either THE NIGHT PORTER, or ZARDOZ. As for Britt Eckland..."she's just coming, sir"
  4. I've always loved the Deutsche Grammophon covers, but...do you think that Karajan got the best out of Prokofiev? What I mean is, how do you think he interpreted him? Good? Bad?
  5. It's not STAR TREK: V, Stu. They're not rock men, they're the Nephilim, and I liked their story-arc (no pun intended ).
  6. Yes. BLACK SWAN was good. Not seen PI, or THE WRESTLER. NOAH took diabolical liberties with the Genesis story, but was entertaining, and proved that, if her life depended on her acting ability, poor old Emma Watson would lose it. The only thing that I remember about REQUIEM... is Ellen Burnstyn being menaced by a refrigerator.
  7. Right on, Alex! Audiences do not need every little thing explained to them. LOL This kind of poses an interesting question: when it comes to a professional (ie, someone who has an education of some sort, in cinema, or journalism, or both - yes, I'm looking at you, Winkleman!) reviewer, who does/did JWfaners trust? Norman? Kermode? Powell? Walker? Kael? Ebert? Malcolm? Reed (not until you came along! )? Lambert's a lezzer?! Damn!!!
  8. "Weird poster"? Jay, its Aronofsky, what do you expect? Its colourful, though; I'll say that for it.
  9. This is all making me very jealous. I don't have a TV, and I refuse to pay well over £120 for a licence to watch it on i-player. The complete series (grits teeth)...36...is not on Blu, until mid July. I'll have to until then
  10. Don't forget all those "underrated German composers"
  11. It's not just meh, Alex, it's exactly the same stuff that is advertised on every other channel. Vaguely creepy, vaguely horrific, vaguely existential, full, no doubt, of PG-13 thrills, and not an single ounce of originality. Insulting, and moribund. Avoid. I'm only glad that they're charging 10p to watch it.
  12. Thanks for that, Inky. Once I start earning again, I'll invest in this (along with the other 25 OSTs that I need!). Looking forward to hearing the analog mixes (well, I am The Analog Kid!). Am I missing something? The 20 tracks on both CD1 and CD2 are exactly the same length, yet CD1 has an extra 10 seconds on it. Anyway, the score is "an island of class, in a sea of dross", so...an essential purchase.
  13. Probably all of those, and Vaughn Williams, Walton, Copeland, and Holst.
  14. Amicus, right? I love that stuff, too. THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD is a good one. What's the one with Jon Pertwee, and an evil cloak?
  15. I can even remember who Katie effing McGrath played! I was too busy seething at BD Wong, for ripping-off JW's turtleneck.
  16. Actually, the OST just about covers it. The novice listener doesn't need all that car-chase-through-the-alley stuff. Besides, the OST sounds much better, and it has the EPILOGUE.
  17. I quite liked the Indian from THE LUNCH BOX. Shame he died.
