Naïve Old Fart

Watched Paths of Glory the other night. What a fantastic movie this is, think it's one of Kubrick's best actually. It has all the hallmarks of his signature style but told in a brisk, fat-free, efficient way. A true screwball tragedy.

STRAIGHT STORY 3: CISGENDER

I forgot that I was working in a call center when the OJ verdict came down. Directory assistance. Busy place. It went silent for about ten minutes before the verdict. And the people that did call were in a hurry.

A great cast, a nifty score, by Jack Nitzsche, and some astonishing miniature work, by ILM.

As I was watching I thought to myself:
Wow, Bridges should have been nominated for an Oscar. He plays the alien wonderfully.
And after finishing the movie, I saw that he was indeed!  
Not a great movie (I prefer other Carpenter movies), but a classic.

Let's Get Small was the original LP title. State of the Art / The Charge is the tile on the LLL set (and presumably Jerry's title).

Even if you aren't musically inclined, this is fascinating...
 
 

Of all the Goldsmith pieces I would ever have expected to hear on Piano, this one is not it. Very nice. Surprisingly the best bits (I think) are the more action oriented parts towards the end.

I love Fellini and I love that one especially! I may even prefer it over 8 1/2.

Each of us, at some time in our lives, turns to a father, a brother, a JWfaner, and asks: "A choice between a crappy song and a not-so-crappy song? Is this all that there is? Is there nothing more?"
