    The Double Life of Veronique

It's easy to dismiss this kind of thing. Barebones "plot", meandering characters and subplots and vague flirtations with the "esoteric". And yet, when you arrive at the end, it all works. It might not have the staggering confidence of Tarkovsky in how it handles sensation, but there is a great deal of feeling nonetheless. Largely in part to Kieslowski's excellent subject, the gorgeous Irene Jacob and the beautifully evocative colours that are captured on lens. Everything feels so utterly delicate and otherworldly. As an Americanized audience, one might be scratching one's head at a narrative through-line, or poke "holes" in its plot, but even then, you can't deny the film's images work over you as you follow Jacobs' antics. I would still argue that other filmmakers have fared better in tackling this kind of idea of "spiritual" interconnectedness, but I'll take this over another Cloud Atlas. Preisner's score, in typical Polish operatic-galore, is another great asset to the film.

For me her voice evokes a kind of nostalgic sadness.

She's never had great voice, but, by golly, its sexy as hell ,
besides, anything with Gil Evans at the helm, deserves to be listened to.

TFA will be remembered as STAR WARS' GREATEST HITS. It has nothing new to say, but you have fun watching it.
TLJ is, for me, a deeper, richer film. It's better paced, and better framed with some spectacularly beautiful shots.
I have yet to see TROS.

    The Draughtman's Contract

A cheeky little whodunnit designed by man with an apparent fondness for classical painting and framing. The pieces are always moving in this puzzle, and its characters are always preaching but underneath the elegant opulence of its imagery is its sheer absurdity driving the whole thing. Who needs Knives Out when you've got this! Nyman's score does its job well, though as was common with high concept scores of the time, it's often mishandled.

There used to be one TV in the house, usually in the living room, and it was a magical device. Now you have TVs, computers, iPhones in every room. Today teens don't watch a lot TV, they prefer social media, Netflix or Youtube.

Quite like the title score. Classic 70s sound but slightly 'dramatic' in line with Airport or whatever. Harbinger Curve and Springfield Sequence are two of my favourites. The film, well I've not seen it in years but it was good fun.

It's a good score, from a largely unknown film. I saw this, in London, as a double-bill, with THE BAD NEWS BEARS.

I can tell you - with 100% certainty - that the score for MULAN was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, and was released in 1998.
    Happy to help
