Naïve Old Fart

Tonight I'm giving Star Trek Picard one more chance. If it has the profanity I do not like and care for again (I mean the f bomb and other colorful metaphors) I am not going to watch anymore of it and I don't care if it's Star Trek.
 
The type of profanity being used in Picard is a major turn off for me. As I've said it's Star Trek and in MY opinion that type of language does NOT belong in Star Trek.

There'll be an "alternate universe" episode, where Geneviève Bujold is Admiral Nicole Janeway.

When Barad-dûr collapses, and the "evil" theme turns from minor, to major, I'm not not sure if I've ever heard a more triumphant piece of Shore music. Sublime.

The rough cut of The Fellowship of the Ring was four-and-a-half hours. Return of the King was closer to five, I think The Battle of the Five Armies was well over three, as well.
 
I don't think any of this footage will (or should) be reinstated into the films. Maybe a few revisions to tie the six films together but that's it, in my mind.

What do you think JW was inspired by? This great piece, written just a few years earlier, certainly has a lot of similarities!

I think they came to realise that they'd maybe backed themselves into a corner with this, because it hasn't exactly been a hard and fast rule since. See also the Doctor's not-exactly-rigid pacifism. 
 

I'm teaching a class on JFK tomorrow and for fun, I put together a little supercut of all the cues from the 1990s I could think of that appear to have been inspired by "The Conspirators." Or, for a few of the more distantly related examples, at least channeling similar musical techniques...

Why the hell don't I listen to this one more often? I love how even the throwaway stuff like Horseman's Fanfare get a lot more development/fleshing out than you'd expect at first and I always forget how lovely Sultan's Toys/Miniature Acrobats is. Happy 80th!

The whole "comparing dicks, er...sorry...calling cards" was silly, but that was the 80s for you; the decade of artifice and meaninglessness. It was the most shallow of times.
