Thanks for your opinions guys. I'm loving this release!

Speaking of the main theme, what do you guys think it represents in the first Back To The Future film? At first I thought of Doc, but then I realised that the music associated with him is actually those fittingly manic and eccentric pieces, as heard in "Einstein Disintegrated" and "1.21 Jigowatts". Then I thought of Marty, but that doesn't really fit either. For Marty, the pop music is more suitable, given his age. So what about Biff? Nah, those dark(ish) undertones in "Skateboard Chase" and "George To The Rescue" are for him. Loraine? No. George? No. Anyone else? No! My conclusion is: The DeLorean Time Machine itself! Think about it, whenever the main theme is used in it's full orchestral glory, the car is in the scene. Surely not just a coincidence? Whenever I hear the theme, I can always picture the car flying (literally!) along! What do you guys think? PS - I'm not trying to start any arguements about the music/film here, I just want to know what other people think and what their opinions are. Personally, the main theme is in my top 5 favourites of all time. It's awesome!

It's arrived! As for the un-used "Logo" cue, I think the film would have worked better with this left in. It's only a very short piece, and the ticking clocks still could've been used once "Logo" had finished.

I'll probably agree when I eventually get mine! At least I'm not the only one still waiting. My copy was shipped out on December 23. I reckon I should have it by the end of the 1st week in January. I hoping for the same. The race is on!

What is the last score you listened to?

Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince. Not terrible, but not great either. Could have (and should have) been so much better..... -
Doesn't he say this after every score though?
-
It was originally written to be sung by the Hogwarts choir during the battle at Hogwarts Castle at the end. How horribly pretentious would that have been? It certainly works marginally better as an opener to the film. Absolutely. Personally I think it would be better suited in The Tudors though. Maybe that's why I like it!

The most influential would have to be Hans Zimmer/Media Ventures/Remote Control Productions. I personally don't mind, as I like some of his scores, and it reminds me of how parts my own scores would sound like if I were a composer. I guess I'm in the minority (nothing new, and certainly no surprises there...), but I have a soft spot for his simple rythms and I find them fun to listen to, like The Rock for example. Sure some of his scores sound similar to one another, but he isn't the first composer to 'recycle' his ideas and use them again.....

I've been presented with The Tudors: Seasons 1 & 2. Still no Back To The Future yet though..... -
Every time I hear that I suddenly visualize little stop-motion dolls moving about with freckles and scarves. I don't know if that's good or not, it just happens. Just like whenever I see an Asian man crossing the street I hear a gong crash inside my head. Okay, back to Christmas music. You are a strange one Jeffrey.

Re: Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince. It's already in chronological order, apart from: 2) "In Noctem" - I believe this was originally going to score Dumbledore's Funeral, but they changed their minds. It works nicely as an Overture to the film/album though. 6) "Wizard Wheezes" - This is not used in the film (don't know why; it would've worked well I think). Instead, they used the "Fireworks" track from Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix. Whether that was a new recording for this film, or was simply tracked, I don't know. 28) "The Weasley Stomp" - I'm not sure about this track. I can't remember it in the film. It's possibly there somewhere, or it could also be unused. See if you can spot the recurring motif about halfway through that sounds very similar to Michael Giacchino's Star Trek.....

Excellent Number 1.

What John Williams melody do you whistle/hum the most?
Maxxie replied to Sandor's topic in General Discussion
Tends to be the main theme from Home Alone at the minute. Although I also seem to 'sing' that wonderful statement of Kirk's Theme from the beginning of "Battle In The Mutara Nebula", and the final fanfare from the very end of the end credits. Then again, there's always The Motion Picture theme too, as well as the Klingon's. Oh the list goes on! -
That's terrible. Someone who helped bring so much magic into this world, is taken away by his creator just before Christmas? You have to wonder sometimes.....
-
So is there a silly edit on the CD to remove the 4mins? Or are the extra 4mins an insert in the film?? You sure it's not a Williams album?! Are the main & end titles included? These are usually absent from Zimmer's releases I find, so I'm guessing they'll be missing, or even submerged within another track.

I can't vote on the seond option as I'm not familiar with the works of Rozsa or Herrmann. As for Williams vs Goldsmith..... Johnny has given us Superman, E.T, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Hook, Home Alone, Jurassic Park, all of which are simply amazing. His talent is wonderful. But Goldsmith gave us Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and the majestic sweeping theme from which is incredible; my favourite theme of all time. So Goldsmith wins.....just!* So there! * Only kidding. I don't see how anyone could (fairly) choose between the two. Between them their contribution to film music is unrivalled and they should both be remembered for the masterpieces they have both created.

Standout main themes in otherwise uninteresting scores

I didn't say Jaws, I said Jaws: The Revenge. The sharks from Jaws were really good. I couldn't give a toss what you think! Touché -

It's laughable that the shark from Universal Studios California looks more realistic than the one from Jaws: The Revenge, because even the Studios one is crap! The Universal Studios Florida sharks look far better, and they don't come as ridiculously far out of the water like they're trying to fly..... -

Ah right, I see. That really clears it up. Thank you for the clarification. <_< What is it with you people? Why can't you just accept (for once) that not everyone agrees with your opinion?! So, just because I don't agree with your opinions about a score, I'm automatically unintelligent with bad parents and a bad school? I find that really offensive. My parents are amazing, and I'll have no-one saying otherwise!!! Bunch of tossers!
