I can only surmise the 'unseen' missions between Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall REALLY took their toll on Bond, because he goes from being a 'freshly minted' 00 agent in QOS to people hinting that he's 'past it' in Skyfall  . 

Maybe the point is that he always proves them wrong?         

"The world has moved on, commander Bond" 
Why is almost every Craig movie so on the nose with trying to make Bond old and washed up? 
Why can't it be a straight mission by MI6? Why does there always have to be a detour? 
These movies feel like the producers don't trust the traditional Bond formula at all anymore.

Don't get me wrong, they're fine films. But it's hilarious anyone's kidding themselves into thinking they'd like to dine with the characters.
 
It's the reason I gave up on Succession. I hated the characters so much.
