My new sig, finally replacing the 2005 sig. Anyway, I'd think it'd be kind of wierd if we weren't movie fans. But some people are ALL MOVIES buffs (Tarantino comes to mind), and ALL SCORES buffs. I like to tell everybody that I'm a "Good film" buff.

Again, no doubt. Williams is and was a better action music writer than Goldsmith. It is possible that Goldsmith influenced Williams a little (although honestly, the influences in action music would've been from Korngold and Alfred Newman, and of course some Herrmann.) So, yeah, Williams is better.

I hate to say it, but Joe's right, Indy will probably make more in its first day than Rambo does in its entire run, unless Rambo is a huge hit (even then there's no way it's topping $150 million, $160 million absolute tops.)

Hmm, for some strange reason I just remembered Star Wars day today. I wonder why?

I hate to keep insisting on this, but MIDI is only a protocol. Those sample libraries use MIDI just as the old SoundBlaster Pro cards do. They just have better samples. And the old SoundBlaster General Midi sounds were stored in hardware, so they actually cost something. Then came the wavetables (AWE and stuff), which sounded a lot better at least. Also hardware-based. But yes, today there are a few software-based real-time MIDI synths, which sound like the early wavetables and yes, those are free. I don't mind, it's good for those who aren't aware of that fact, and there are many who aren't. I was just being careless with my phrasing there.

Yeah, thanks for asking, I never thought to ask, but unfortunately, you get what you pay for, and midi is free.

1. I notice when it is EXCEPTIONALLY good, or different. 2. Yes, I watch some of it more than once, particularly the Walkabout part, which I've probably seen about 20 times for the music. The Ghoest- Who used to never watch U.S. TV.

This reminds me about an idea (or I believe actually a fully developed script) that a friend on these board had, about an elderly composer (built off of Williams) and a younger composer (based loosely on Horner, although I would mix a little of JMH in their to soften the edges and make the character more dynamic) who wrote a movie together. Really sounded cool, and I would want a copy of the script if he actually wrote it. He had the older character played by Anthony Hopkins. Sounded really cool, even just from a film standpoint without thinking of the amazing potential for the score. Now, I'm ashamed :oops: because I can't remember the guy's name. He was a fellow Tolkienite (before the movies), a brother in Christ, and a wise elder of the Order of Towner Knights. I should know his name, but now I can't remember! :? Okay, the soundtrack is great, except for two things. One is major, nay essential! I need the Walkabout clip! I can't believe they left that out of the CD! So, does anyone know where I can get a good bootleg of it? PM me if you have one to send. (I know there's a similar one in "Locke'd Out", but I want the original!) 2nd is more minor, but still important. How about the cue in "Whatever the case may be" where Sawyer drops the case from the tree and Kate runs by and grabs it. That is a really cool cue, with the violin going over the percussion. Oh yeah, and if anyone knows any cues from "Special", that would be cool as well. The Ghoest- Better have your questions ready, cause I'm only posting for a limited time!
