  1. Seriously? One reviewer said that Spielberg had other things in his head while directing this one, and I can see what he meant, but I still think it's a wonderful film, even modest in some ways. Just like some Williams scores are more intimate and obscure, this Spielberg film is a great addendum to his oeuvre, and really shows off his capabilities to do just anything. (Tintin too.) () The film's like the counterpart of bombastic-ness/bombastic-ibility. Enjoyed it. Greetings! Lotman - deliberately twisting and turning the topics of this thread to head for an unexpected ending
  2. I share your feeling, Marc. And if a sequel trilogy should be in the making, well, go for it - for me, it doesn't hurt the original trilogy - that one will always be the One. If they should make another one, for anyone's sake, bring in Lawrence Kasdan, or another good scriptwriter. But let discussions take place after the fact. Please no "Who should play the great-grandson of Luke Skywalker"...
  3. End in style, he must. Don't know if it has been said already, but I remember some great line from the books, spoiler btw, where Sam takes the Ring from Frodo when he thinks he's dead, and officially takes over the burden. I think they omitted it to have both Frodo and the public worry about the Ring, but I don't think this 'fooled' the public... I looked forward to this line (can't remember it exactly, at least not in English, but you get the point...).

    Tintin

Didn't mean it like that though. I just find it frustrating to find out about all these great upcoming events, and subsequently having to wait all these years. Indy 4, great. Oh wait. I'll be graduated by then...

    Tintin

Yeah. They're not immortal you know. Just hope that they keep some multiple endings in store too. Back on topic of course. I thought Cigars of the Pharao (or whatever they called it in English) and Blue Lotus formed a two-parter as well? Well, er, Tintin is like Tintin. It was my favorite comic book series when I was a kid. I have the complete series! (Ok, not that there are thát many...) Tintin is a reporter and he goes out on these adventures with his dog. Bobbie. Or he solves mysteries closer at home. Like at Moulinsart. That's a castle. But you'll see

    Tintin

Too bad I know all the endings already! I'd really love an adaptation of the 'Red Rackham'-two parter and the 'Seven Crystal Balls' one. Hope Spielberg and Williams team up once more. (Since, we have to face it, the end of all things is nearing...)
  7. I clearly don't share your opinion when it comes to songs. I think the 'May it Be' song is the only bad song of the 3. Well, it's not really bad, but I'm tired of this Enya stuff on these kind of films. In fact, that was the reason why I didn't like the score when I saw it in the theatre. Now, I like the score, but I still ignore the Enya song. Gollum's song is the best I think. Like it extremely much. And what do you think is wrong with the You Only Live Twice song? Greetz! Lotman
  8. I totally agree. A friend saw it, and said the ending was so unpredictable - and without seeing the movie (all I had seen was the trailer - and the tag line), I guessed it (although I didn't ask for confirmation). I mean, come on. And years later I actually saw the movie. It was quite a boring experience...
  9. Temple of Doom. With Empire following closely. And The Last Crusade.
  10. I didn't like the music from FOTR at first. The sound was too 'wet', and I wasn't fond of the orchestrations. And I didn't like the Shire theme thing. But it grew on me. I liked the music better in TTT and ROTK. As I've seen all three films now, I can say that I like the music more now. I put the CDs a lot in my player now. How queer. Actually, the same occurred with the Harry Potter music. I still think it's a bit overrated, but nonetheless...
  11. Bringing this topic back: I've compiled a quite complete list so far, however, I 'need' some more films from the nineties on, and especially films in the 1997-2004 period. This is what I've got: Total Recall Terminator 2 Back to the Future Part 3 Jurassic Park Body Snatchers Strange Days 12 Monkeys Mars Attacks! The Fifth Element Men in Black Johnny Mnemonic Planet of the Apes (Remake) Gattaca Contact The X-Files Dark City The Truman Show The Matrix Galaxy Quest Red Planet Titan A.E. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence Minority Report The Matrix Revolutions Can anyone come up with some more SF movies that rate from, let's say, 'very good' to 'excellent'? Thanks in advance!
  12. I think I will be going with Cats and Dogs and Bubble Boy. Maybe Sudden Death or Atlantis too. Btw, I picked up Legend for a mere 7 euros! (Except for those synthesizer bleeps, a very enjoyable score!)
  13. I have just seen lying in a CD store for a fairly cheap price: Cats and Dogs, Sudden Death (Debney) Timecop (Isham) Atlantis (Howard) Bubble Boy (Ottman) Sleeping with the Enemy (Goldsmith) Which should I pick up? Anybody any thoughts? (I won't buy them all, bought too much recently in fact.) Thanks!
  14. Actually, that's what I remembered as well. And that motif is also heard in the Leave Taking. I'm quite fond of this theme (the one Marc mentioned); I especially like it in the opening of TTT... But is it now the History of the Ring theme? Steef?
  15. Which album did you get this from? (when it's not the SE nor the boxed set?) Can you explain what you would re-edit exactly? Thanks very much!!
  16. I would really like to hear what Giacchino would do with all films scored by Williams, Goldsmith, Horner, Arnold, or Elfman. I really hope that he would have the opportunity to do this. The world would be a better place. Lotman
  17. Actually, I completely disagree. He's not comparable to Arnold in this so-called spy music. Lotman - happy that there's no Mr Bean-beat in the James Bond films.
  18. Marc, I'd get the almost complete bootleg of the score. Definitely a must! I frequently see the Last Crusade lying in stores, and it's not that expensive. I also used to see Raiders and the Temple of Doom, but that's a longer while ago...
  19. Any thoughts on this soundtrack? (I've recently let it pass in favour of The Omen) (I guess there's another thread in which a few comments have been made, but I couldn't find it, so sorry if this thread is redundant.) Greetz!
  20. I have just bought the Milan version for a nice price. I kind of did it because of the reactions on this board (and after all, it wás a nice price): this better be good Stefancos (Oh, and there's another one lying in the Fnac in Gent, for those of you interested.) I also finally bought Jane Eyre, the remastered version! And Neil, I found neither the Star Trek cd nor Total Recall, but I grabbed The Omen, I can't complain. But I díd see a Total Recall soundtrack, but it wasn't the Deluxe version. Do you think I should have bought it? Greetz!
  21. I am listening to the Alias soundtrack right now. I like some pieces of it very much. But. I don't see what the fuss is all about, I guess his orchestral video game scores must be better. The talking in Ball Buster is, excuse me for saying, quite awful. But that's just my taste I guess. And Giacchino added beat in a lot of tracks (David Arnold uses his techno a lot, lot better), and it reminds me of, well, anybody saw the "Mr Bean" episode where he's late for the dentist? Well, when he realizes that he's late, he leaves his apartment in a hurry, and the musical accompaniment is exactly this kind of beat. The series Bean celebrated its tenth anniversary not that long ago. And the musical budget wasn't exactly worth talking about. Anyway, some tracks are nice!
