Oliver Stone has announced on his social media that Shout Studios will release JFK in December on the UHD format. (Maybe JFK will be one of the BF titles?...) -

Does anyone know why Blood Simple is still only available to pre-order on the Varese site but it's already available at Intrada and SAE? -

Howard Shore made an appearance tonight at NYC's Quad Cinema for a Q&A following a screening of Naked Lunch. Alas, I did not have the gumption to ask him for a photo or take a selfie afterwards while others were thrusting their merch in front of him to sign, but I did learn that he is currently working on a new Cronenberg film -
The Final Cut and the Workprint are the only versions that I watch

Damn, Goldenthal's Heat can't catch a break, huh? First the rights get transferred to Fox, then Disney, and now apparently there are delays with approvals at Disney with Intrada -
Likely no hope for Blade Runner (or Alexander, for that matter), unless Vangelis' estate is really willing to push through all the red tape Goldenthal's WB titles were already being ignored due to the 300 controversy, but at least we have leaks for Batman & Robin, Sphere, and Demolition Man (even if the latter two are incomplete) Also, no hope for Pelican Brief, Conspiracy Theory, or Jack Nitzsche's work on The Exorcist, it seems

I sympathize! I suspect that the same thing is going to happen with Munich, since I got the Blu-ray for a good price assuming that we're never going to see it on 4K -

When it comes to Williams, I assume that he or his management have enough clout to push through any administrative red tape if they really want to see it released. Remind me, what's the issue with WB again? -

That may come sooner rather than later since Oliver Stone announced that it will get a 4K release this year. Fingers crossed -
While attending the Empire LTP concert last May, I was struck by a particular passage at 4:00 of "Rescue From Cloud City", and how those swirling strings seemed to emulate something that I'd heard before. It's certainly an intense moment in an already intense score. Then, while casually checking out clips of Brazil a few months later, it hit me: I had heard a similar piece playing under the dramatic explosion at the beginning of the film! Hear the comparison for yourself: Obviously Empire was released before Brazil, so it was likely used as a temp track for the latter film. But I was curious if both composers were influenced by an earlier classical piece, one that might have been used for the Empire temp track. Perhaps something by Khachaturian or Prokofiev?

Judging by the amount of music that was unused or dialed out, is this the closest that JW got to having a score rejected? I noticed that he and Alan J. Pakula never worked together again

The Return Of The King COMPLETE RECORDINGS 4CD set
Corellian2019 replied to sandman609's topic in Tolkien Central
Thanks for clarifying. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find that vocal between "Mount Doom" and "The Crack Of Doom". At least "Flaming Red Hair" is on the Fellowship set. Was there ever any leak of this Plan 9 material, even on one of the video games?- 646 replies

The Return Of The King COMPLETE RECORDINGS 4CD set
Corellian2019 replied to sandman609's topic in Tolkien Central
Not intimately familiar with this score, but I could have sworn that the "wailing" sound effect heard when Gollum falls into the lava with the ring was part of the score and not sound design. Is there any way to confirm that it is just sound design and not unreleased music left off of the CR and Rarities CD?- 646 replies

What's a score you wished John Williams did?
Corellian2019 replied to Courtney Sees Ghosts's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Some people imagine a Bond film scored by JW, but I'm more interested in what his approach would have sounded like for a low-key spy film that focused more on espionage. Probably something in the vein of Presumed Innocent (the main theme of which, in terms of emotion, fits perfectly!)- 173 replies

Interesting. When I saw the Close Encounters concert in Lincoln Center, it didn't have subtitles. I guess it's an outlier
