  1. Yes, I suppose identifying distinctive alien species shouldn't be too much of a problem. And if it is, that's why the Star Trek Encyclopedia was invented, right?
  2. ...can they jump straight into the feature films w/o missing anything HUGELY important from the Original Series?
  3. Thanks, Mark Olivarez! Not only did the CDs arrive faster than I thought, but they arrived in perfect condition. Can't ask for more. Thanks again!
  4. Thanks for the link, Roald! Thanks! I had always wanted to enroll in NYFA, but when the reality of actually having to pay for it sinked in, it was time to turn to community college first and start small. Besides, I worked with a few NYFA graduates before, and most of them seemed like a bunch of jerks who didn't really like their craft. Oh, well. Can't judge a school by how some of their graduates turn out, in terms of personality!
  5. Are you going to go to college for film? If so, where? Yeah, I'm planning to study film production in college, over at City College for now; then I have to decide whether to a) transfer to somewhere like SVA or NYFA after two years, or b) go to City College for all 4 years and go to graduate school in state or out of state
  6. You're welcome. The Ice Storm really is a great minimalist score, and if you liked "Elena Shoplifts", I heartily recommend you also listen to "Bike Kiss Full" and "Train". Great stuff. Anyway, good luck with that paper. Thanks for the encouraging words!
  7. You mean the music heard when the sister took the cat out? That piece is from The Ice Storm. By Mychael Danna? Yes.
  8. You mean the music heard when the sister took the cat out? That piece is from The Ice Storm. She teleported out of her backyard, of course! Nah, I simply used a creative transition between the sister looking out of her back yard and cut to a shot of her friend looking up at the sky; presumably, the sister scooped up the cat, went back into the house, and walked outside.
  9. Being an aspiring filmmaker not yet in college, I decided to embark on creating a demo reel (without a ghost of a professional budget) consisting of the best dramatic highlights from a script I wrote in August, in order to enhance my résumè with a creative portfolio, and also I suppose to use for future film program applications. The results of this creative journey can be seen below: Thoughts, comments, and questions are most welcome.
  10. Ditto. The film version sounds even better combined with "A Drive".
  11. Props to everyone who's been lucky to meet or even see these famous composers. Nice! I hope to interview him sometime in the years to come. I chuckled at the "aloof and detached" detail. Couldn't expect anything less from a Brooklyn native.
  12. I just realized something today: Taking into account the recent partnership b/w James Horner and Intrada for the two Disney film releases, and the change of Paramount executive in charge of music, what if one of the May 12th CDs features both scores for the two 48 HRS. films by Horner? I haven't listened to the score for Another 48 HRS., but I assume it could fit comfortably with its predecessor on one disc. The "illegitimate" 48 HRS. release features a few tracks, which is nearly the entire score, and if you add the 2 missing cues from the film, it comes out to 7 tracks, even 9 tracks if you decide to split the longer tracks on the boot into individual cues. 7 or 9 cues for a complete score allows more than enough room to easily fit in another score. Or what if Intrada decided to do a CD of Horner '80s action scores and put together 48 HRS. and Red Heat? The latter is still a short score, so it could still fit alongside a similarly proportioned score on one CD.
  13. I just found this out over at the Intrada forums: Guess it won't necessarily be something from the '90s. Darn...
  14. Blade Runner Aliens Heat Michael Collins Die Hard Se7en Angels in America Utterly random choices, I know, but those are a few "properrated" scores I can think of.
  15. Because the first two were mediocre, and I really liked the third one. I felt that was as good as it was gonna get. Seems the films are taking the same path. Naw, man, you should read the fourth one, it really surprised me with how deep and ambitious it was willing to get in terms of character development and exploration of the Death Eaters' past, as well as killing off an unlikely character. In other words, for me Book 4 was the beginning of the HP series dealing with adult themes instead of just appealing to young adults (although that definitely wasn't bad). Of course, all that depth and development is pretty much lost in the film, so I would recommend just reading the book.
  16. Well, I coined it, so I demand recognition from any band that uses it!
  17. Not really, but that's what makes it so good! The Bounty comes from the period when Vangelis favored the CS-80 synthesizer and utilized it in all its glory. Plus the atonal nihilism that he experimented with in Blade Runner (most notably during the track "Wounded Animals") fully expresses itself with considerable force in Bounty.
  18. The Bounty, by Vangelis. Achingly beautiful score, one of his very best. I really, really like how the music is able to tell the story of the film completely devoid of any imagery, and how effectively it reflects the emotional narrative of the story's progression. I really hope that one day soon one of the holy quintet of specialty labels will rescue this score and release it in the proper two-disc presentation it deserves instead of fading into obscurity.
  19. Transformers is the one with the US flag every five seconds. :P
  20. I haven't seen the film or listened to the Varese album, but if that gets a complete/expanded release, then, hey, power to whoever wants it. I'm leaning more towards a complete/expanded Demolition Man or Heat, though.
  21. Here's hoping the title limited to 2000 copies is a Goldenthal or Rosenman film from the 90s.
  22. Something Wicked was given an isolated score on laserdisc, and there's a promo with untitled tracks for Natty Gann. Apologies if anyone knew this already.
