  1. So, 2.30pm (I guess Boston Time, so Eastern Standard Time), shoud be 8.30pm MEZ (Berlin, Vienna, Rome) or 7.30 (London). But please don´t rely on that... better proof it... -Alawill
  2. Did someone notice the two girls on the right and left of JW? Does JW has his arm around the "right" girl? Looks like she is biting him...
  3. I AM (!) a child! And, if rumours are true, I can´t believe that they let JW do the long way for a concert for childs. I hope, they would at least do a second concert... -Alawill, who can´t wait for August, 2nd... (& hopes to get tickets...)
  4. Hi there, it´s the first post after a long time for me as I´m trying to - finally - finish my studies. I will attend the concert on August, 2nd. It´s my first travel to the states: I will visit NY, Boston and Chicago and will fly back on August, 3rd from Boston. Unfortunately, tickets are sold out, but I hope to get some. At least, I will buy lawn tickets. I also will try to get a signature and/or photo with/by John as this will maybe the one and only time for me to see him live. (Although - he will come to Vienna 2004 and to London 2005, so ...) But, Conor, as to the 1000s of people, I don´t think that we will meet there. -Alawill
  5. Sorry for correcting you, but there are trombones in Beethoven symphonies, in Nos. 5, 6 and 9: No. 1: 2.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - tmp No. 2: 2.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - tmp No. 3: 2.2.2.2 - 3.2.0.0 - tmp ("Eroica") No. 4: 1.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - tmp No. 5: 3.2.2.3 - 2.2.3.0 - tmp No. 6: 3.2.2.2 - 2.2.2.0 - tmp ("Pastoale") No. 7: 2.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - tmp No. 8: 2.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - tmp No. 9: 3.2.2.3 - 4.2.3.0 - tmp (First four digits indicate wind: flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons; the second four digits brass: horn, trumpets, trombones, tuba; tmp=timpanis) But you´re of course right, that the size of orchestras was/is increasing. Many Mozart or Haydn symphonies are using mainly 2 oboes and 2 horns - thats it. I guess, the orchestral size has reached it´s end with Mahler and Richard Strauss, also due to stage limits. -Alawill
  6. Hi guys, I´m back after a long time trying to make my last courses at university... As I will travel to America next year for the first time in my life, I would be VERY interessted in attending a live performance of John Williams. I will be around Boston and Chicago in the second half of July 2003, maybe there will be a concert in Boston or Tanglewood, what do you think? As you can imagine, a trip to America takes time and money, so this may be the only chance to see Mr. Williams for a long time for me. So I don´t want this not to happen due to traveling schedule problems... Any information is appreciated... Thanks! -Alawill
  7. why should he not auction the album? there is enough time left to buy the album officially before the auction ends... the only question is: why? maybe he/she´s working at dreamworks-records? and got some releases for free?
  8. For all of you waiting for a "postal-sent" CD: my order for the Denoument-Recording of the Williams trumpet concerto was declared right, but sent to Adelaide/South Australia instead of Austria... But finally, I received it today after some weeks of waiting... :!:
  9. I also noticed this and I don´t think, that John Williams (composer) is involved with this CD-project. But why could this happen to a official press release? Just simply because somebody writing/checking a press release not always means that he/she knows up to 100 % what he/she is writing about. Where do they get there information? I think from official and also un-official sources (like the internet). And if you ever searched for "John Williams" on cdnow or amazon, you know which results you get... And there are - for sure - thousands of JW-fans, who have bought a guitar-cd (or the other way round)... -Alawill
  10. If I remember right, there is a recording of this performed by the Tchech National Military Brass Band, and this recording is really terrific. Unfortunately, I´m not sure where to buy this CD (online?). I will have a look later, if I have this recording in my collection. In the meantime, -Alawill
  11. hi mark, here´s the link: http://www.denouementrecords.com/ click on "order an album" on the left then on the Williams album --Alawill
  12. BTW, this A.I. aliens look like the Clone-Producer-Aliens in AOTC...

  14. Hm... the imdb.com is not able to help in this point... but it´s the same year (1961) - oh sorry not at all, nearly the same year (1961/62)...
  15. Ahem... Look at my list, @ http://www.websamba.com/alawill/trade.htm and tell me what you are interessted in. -Alawill
  16. Yeah, another thing, that could be funny: George Lucas directing JP4 with underwater-dinosaurs and copy/paste of music fram "Jaws"...
  17. Of the film or of the score? Has it been released? Or is it a single track in a compilation? Or what?
  18. thanks, I have edited the post with your comments, so I will do in the next time if any comments appear -Alawill
  19. I have just assambled a "little" list of works by John Williams in chronological order. Most of the works are well known, others not. Take a look at this list and share your opinion: - are there Non-JW-scores in the list? - are there scores missing? - any comments? Time after time I would edit this list ref. to other user comments. 1951 Piano Sonata 1951-60 Wind Quintett 1953 [?] General Electric Theatre 1956 Playhouse 90 1975 Tales of Wells Fargo [added] 1957 Bachelor Father 1957 Wagon Train 1957 M-Squad 1959 Daddy-O 1960 I Passed For White 1960 Checkmate 1960 Because They´re Young 1961 Bachelor Flat 1961 The Secret Ways 1961[-63] Alcoa Premiere Theater 1961 Stark Fear [unconfirmed] 1962 Flashing Spikes [added] 1962 Diamond Head 1962 Wide Country 1962 Big G 1963 Gidget Goes To Rome 1963 Bob Hope Chrysler Theater 1963 Kraft Suspense Theater 1963 [61?] Kraft Mystery Theater 1963 The Virginian 1964 Nightmare in Chicago 1964 [63?] Gilligan´s Island 1964 The Killers 1964 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea [?; imdb.com doesn´t credit JW] 1965 Non But The Brave 1965 John Goldfarb, Please Come Home 1965 Essay for Strings 1965 Prelude and Fugue 1965 Lost in Space 1965 [The Katherine Reed Story] [?] 1966 The Rare Breed 1966 How To Steal A Million 1966 Not With My Wife, You Don´t 1966 Penelope 1966 The Plainsman 1966 The Time Tunnel 1966 The Tammy Grimes Show 1966 The Kraft Summer Music Hall 1966 Symphony No. 1 1967 A Guide For The Married Man 1967 Fitzwilly 1967 Valley Of The Dolls 1967 The Ghostbreakers 1968 Land Of The Giants 1968 Heidi 1968 Sergeant Ryker 1968 Sinfonietta For Wind Ensemble 1969 Daddy´s Gone A-Hunting 1969 The Reivers 1969 Concerto For Flute and Orchestra 1969 Goodbye Mr. Chips 1970 [71?] Jane Eyre 1970 Story of a Woman (aka Storia di una Donna) 1971 Fiddler On The Roof (Adaption) 1971 The Screaming Woman 1971 A Nostalgic Jazz Odyssey 1972 The Cowboys 1972 The Poseidon Adventure 1972 Images 1972 Pete´n´Tillie 1972 [The Screaming Woman] 1973 The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing 1973 The Paper Chase 1973 The Long Goodbye 1973 Cinderella Liberty 1973 Tom Sawyer (Adaption) 1974 Conrack 1974 The Sugerland Express 1974 Earthquake 1974 The Towering Inferno 1974 The Cowboys (TV series) [?] 1974-76 Concerto for Violin and Orchestra [rev. 1998] 1975 The Eiger Sanction 1975 Jaws 1975 Thomas and the King 1976 Family Plot 1976 The Missouri Breaks 1976 Midway 1977 Black Sunday 1977 Star Wars 1977 Close Encounters Of The Third Kind [Additional Music 1980] 1978 The Fury 1978 Jaws II 1978 Superman 1979 Dracula 1979 1941 1980 The Empire Strikes Back 1980 Jubilee 350 1980 Fanfare for a Festive Occasion 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981 Heartbeeps 1981 Pops on the March 1981 Ladd Co. 20. hm... a good question: Is JW the best composer of the 20th century? As a real big fan, I would say NO. He is one of the best, but not THE best I think. And - of course - it´s difficult to say than, WHO is/was the best composer. There are too many: think of Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler, both still living in the beginning of the 20th century. Arnold Schoenberg (primarly not as composer, but he invented 12-tone-music). And even if you ask, if JW is the best filmscore-composer of the 20th century, it´s really difficult: Korngold, Waxmann, Hermann, Rozsa come to mind... But let´s see it the other way round: if you ask, is Mozart the best composer of the 18th century, you would say YES. But than you think of Haydn. Or is Beethoven the best of the 19th? Yes? What about Brahms? So, finally, I would say, Williams is not the best, but I am not able to say, who than IS the best. But one thing for sure: Williams will - like Mozart and Haydn - never be forgotten. -- Alawill
  21. I think Sony could have sold quite a lot more, if they put different music on it, not just 4 different covers.
  22. This is maybe a little bit off-topic, as it´s not only concerning John Williams. As I´m working in an orchestral office, I would like to programm a filmmusic concert. For classical music, it´s very easy to find out how many musicians you will need for a piece (especially of the wood & brass section & percussion). But for filmmusic, that´s rather difficult, as I´m looking for pieces, which could be played by the following orchestral roster: strings + 2.2.2.2 (flutes/oboi/clarinetts/bassoons) + 4.2.3.0 (horns/trumpets/trombones/tuba) + percussion/timpani Maybe anyone out there knows where to find such information for different composers and compositions. Any help would be appriciated... Yours, Alawill
