  1. While personally I am happy that at least two Polish composers are on the list (Kilar and Kaczmarek...; three if we count Kaper), this list has one big flaw - it has definitely been written from Hollywood's perspective, so it is not Greatest Film Composers List, but merely Greatest Film Composers that are Popular in USA List. By the way, there are lots of people from around the World on this forum. Maybe they could introduce to others some great film composers names from their countries, those who are unknown abroad, while being on the top in their homelands.
  2. I like this moment in WotW - in the Intersection Scene when the tension raises and the music suddenly stops. This is where drums come. It sounds so cool.
  3. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I still love TPM (the movie... and the score as well). For me watching it for the first time was an experience similar to that which people had in 77, I think. Somehow most of its flaws don't bother me at all. I see only postitive things. AotC had some really good sequences, but it also had couple of really bad too. The same goes with the score. RotS for me is in the middle in terms of number of flaws. It is more gripping and emotionally captivating than most of the chapters (for me) but overall never as well crafted as OT and (I am sorry, I must say that) TPM. Concerning the score, I like what is on the album, but I was dissapointed that, for the first time, there are so few highlight cues in the movie that doesn't appear on the album.
  4. For me this is also one of the best games I've ever played. And I like its score very much. I'm looking forward to hearing this track mentioned above, but I'm not capable of it right now.
  5. I like it a lot too. It isn't really anything special or inventive, but it's very enjoyable and I listen to it often. It is a little mix of funk, soul, jazz and some modern electric percussion effects (but not as annoying as it was in "Die Another Day"). From what I've heard, there is not much of it in the movie (I haven't seen it so far).
  6. Jennifer Lopez starred in "Money Train", in which Chris Cooper had a role. Cooper was also in "The Patriot" that was scored by JW! Hans Zimmer???
  7. I like the ending of the concert piece "The Soundings" (2003). It is very simple, almost typical, but it is really energetic and works great as a conclusion of the great compositon.
  8. My personal favourite score which hasn't been mentioned here is "Thin Red Line". I know that this is mostly brooding music that may regarded as boring by many of you, but for me it is the greatest brooding music ever created. I didn't appreciate it during my first listenings. In fact, it took me a very long time to start enjoying it. Now I find it one of the greatest scores I've ever heard. It is mainly due to the incredible mood it creates (to which I couldn't have given myself in for a long time). I have never heard another score that would have such an effect on me. It mesmerizes the listener, it relaxes, it transcendents to some other dimention. Trully maginificent.
  9. This yearz I was particularly impressed by Phillip Seymour Hoffmans's Owen Davian from MI:3. Did anyone mentioned Rutger Hauer's Roy Batty or Kevin Spacey's John Doe?
  10. Definitely - "Gladiator"! This is a classic right now. On the other hand, my appreciation towards it - regarded as a Zimmer's work - has changed for worse, when I realised that a great amount of the best material was written by Lisa Gerrard. Compared to her contribution, Zimmer's work - except some splendid mements - is for me nothing more but just decent. 1st "Pirates" are for the most part 'Media Ventures crudest hits' compilation and have no respect for the long tradition of swashbuckling scores. I don't like it at all.
  11. I took that risk. At least I put this IRC to the envelope hoping that someone would have eventually sent it back to me, if - by any chance - this mail had been received by someone else. "GH" has always meant much to me. When I bought it, I had very few JW albums (let alone that it has also been the first time when I heard some of his greatest themes). Now I listen to it rarely, but because of this authograph, this is still the most important item in my collection. I didn't know that It's a pity that many events take place on the other side of the World
  12. My favourite cd designs are theste from "The Two Towers" and "Jaws - the collectors edition". As far as my least favourite design is concerned, I can subscribe to what BurgaFlippinMan wrote in the previous post.
  13. I can report a second one - I sent the Maestro a booklet from "1969-1999 Greatest Hits" album, the International Reply Coupon and an envelope with my return address, and after 5 months I received the booklet with his autograph. Generally, this address is worth a try, or at least it was 4 years ago.
  14. None, I think. As much as I would like to watch the maestro working on a score or leading an orchestra, I prefer listening to the score while watching a movie for the 1st time, when the score is ready and synchronized with the picture.
  15. But imagine, a director gives a composer free hand. He composes something what he finds appropriate for the movie and this is approved by the director. Then we - the fans - start bashing the music, the composer and the director for not going along the lines or for not sounding like typical Hollywood score and so on. "Brockeback Mountain" is one of such examples . PS. I am still pissed that "MoaG" didn't win the Oscar.

The scenes that trully moved me me were the ones in which Cinque tells his story (especially the one in which a woman jumps out of the ship with a baby in her arms). It was so powerfull.
  17. I generally don't like Trevor Rabin's or Greame Revell's scores, they are just not my cup of tea. I am not a fan of MV scores either, though when their composers are given more freedom, they can come up with suprisingly interesting albums (e.g. I personally like "The Time Machine" by K. Badelt). I hate Zimmer's action scores, while I love his dramatic, more serious works. My worst Williams - that would probably be something form "War of the Worlds", "Always" or "Missouri Breaks". These are the only scores of his (which I know) that I really don't like.

The movie is not as good as its soundtrack. It has some great scenes, it is beautifully shot, but overall it is one of the weakest Spielberg's serious movies. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is on my JW Top 10 List.
  19. If you are looking for a real challenge, try to come up with even worse ideas 8O
  20. Heh, the box office result has been rather easy to predict. Pirates are on the top right now (again after long time of spectacular box office failures), while 'man in red pants' seems to be still passe for many. "PotC" was an extraoridinary hit those few years ago, it generated itself a whole new audence. So many people have been longing since then to watch the sequel, while "Superman", on the other hand, has to rely mainly on the people who watched the original movie in their youth and still - somehow - care about this character. I am one of such people and I cannot wait untill the movie hits the theaters in my country. Nevertheless I am going to see "PotC 2" as well. And I cannot wait for it too, since I liked the first one very much (one of few really good Bruckheimer's movies).
  21. Hello (since it is my first visit here) The thing I would like to have the most would be a photo of me and the Maestro Fortunately, I have got his autograph at least - I even keep an envelope in which it was delivered - he had it in his hands afterall
