  1. I like the Varese recording a lot,for some cues i find it better than the Williams, like Helicopter Rescue. The sound quality pays off too. K.M.Who likes the Jaws varese re-recording too
  2. Temple of Doom, and as said the counterpoint with Short Round's Them is amazing...but NOT the album version, the whole thing as it appears in the movie's Finale..I am sooo mad they made a seperate shorter version for the album, and the reason i hate the album even more than for just beeing short. I also like the flute punctuations in the LC version in the bridging theme K.M.
  3. Like someone said,I get bored half way through than i can't watch it.Seems Williams did too. K.M.
  4. The Omen, yes terrifying, too terrifying for me to listen to it,so i didn't buy the expanded issue. Poltergeist:It Knows What Scares You/Rebirth is one of the best set pieces in film score history IMO. Polergeist2:Had it at one point, sold it to a used record dealer. Final Conflict:The Second Coming has to be the second most awsome choral piece in film music after The Dark Sides Beckons K.M.
  5. I saw it today and thought it was excellent.BUT AGAIN the scores sounded very boring, disconnected from the action and uninspired.Long notes, sane boring themes with a choir that just sits there. And why can`t Shore speed up the music when the action gets moving is beyond me.I just kept wishing John Williams would swoop in like the Nazguls and take these great scenes to new heights. And I thought Theoden`s death scene was lifted word for word from Return of the Jedi. And the special effects were the most convincing i ever saw. K.M.
  6. Maybe it's one of these big eagles in Return of the King
  7. Good question K.M.Not sure even the most adamant JWfan knows the answer to this question
  8. I knew I heard that from Williams somewhere else...in a Boston Pops performance of The Unfinished Journey...
  9. gee wiz.i meant " trick " K.M.
  10. I have The Anvil of Chron(sp) on some Kunzel compilation, but since I think it s nothing special I was never compelled to seek out the rest of the score. K.M.
  11. Neil tricked me into installing Itunes, which doesn`t play better or worse than Window Media Player9.but the .aiff files ONLY play on itunes,so I keep it as a secondary player. Also,it never shuts down completely once opened, leaving weird running processes on my CPU,disabling the hibernate function. That link isn`t working well either. K.M.Sure it can`t be as painful as the synth hip-hop arrangement of the Force theme he heard at the shopping center today
  12. Yes.well,ummm...I don`t remember one of your 654 posts beeing about John Williams. K.M.
  13. Here's some that catch my attention: Of course: Terminal Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azcaban Thunderbirds...there's a movie adaptation coming, right? The Day after Tomorrow.I found the trailer very surreal, and made me want to see it. k.m.
  14. there 's a nice rendition of Silent Night somewhere in there. K.M.
  15. I agree, TPM is is one of those few long scores I like to listen from beginning to end,and I find something interesting in every track even if no themes are evoked, little details like the rising strings when a sand storm approaches, the choppy strings when they plan their escape to the queen's ship, the mystical feel to the music whan Anakin is looking up at the stars at night,or the swirly motif in the senate scene...Some beautiful passages like The Dinner Scene and Anakin is Free, great fanfares popping up here and there like when we glimpse Coruscant for the first time, when Anakin wins the race, when they land on Coruscant...It has a very descriptive storytelling quality to it,even the quiet parts. K.M.
  16. I said the c.d.'s are dust collectors, but they have great tracks,so they are still worth owning.I usually take the tracks I like from those type of c.d.'s i don't listen to from beginning to end and put them on "hidden gems" type compilations,so they pop up from time to time. K.M.
  17. I see no point in re-editing music that was looped in the film.Along those lines You could also put the Hyperspace music back in the Snowspeeder search for Luke and omit the perfectly good original music Williams composed. The edit I would do to ESB is put back the original music for the probe droids shooting out of the Star Destroyer after the Main Titles. K.M.
  18. Yes The River is a dust collector, along with Presumed Innocent,Sleepers,Rosewood,Amistad and Stepmom. K.M.
