  1. I've been waiting for months for this particular diary. Not really that much information, but what is there looks good. And lots of percussion. Marian - who expected lots of percussion.
  2. Indeed, when you complete the set after ROTK is out, it'll be far more than 6 discs. And there's tons of leitmotifs in these scores. I'm sure there are plenty I've never noticed myself. Really looking forward to the liner notes and the Doug Adams book. Marian - who remembers being very surprised when discovering the Arwen theme months after hearing FOTR for the first time.
  3. Looks good. Some of the CGI is still crappy, but otherwise I'm getting really excited about it. And that music sounds about as much like Doyle as it sounds like Williams. But I just had a worrying thought when hearing Hedwig's Theme at the end: Somebody might get the idea to actually copy & paste one of the Hedwig cues from the earlier scores over Doyle's score in the film. Marian - who'd rather have a new theme by Doyle than tracked music.
  4. My newspaper's obituary lists several Wise movies (including, of course West Side Story, and also mentioning his work on Citizen Kane) - but they ignore the two I've actually seen: Star Trek TMP (not his best movie I suppose, but probably one of his best-known) and the excellent The Haunting. Marian -
  5. What's REALLY fun about watching these right after re-reading the books is keeping track of minor characters, like the rest of the Gryffindor team and other students. And don't forget to keep watching the very characteristic way in which Harry, Ron and Hermione wear their ties, sleeves etc. Marian -
  6. John Williams has better usability than obscure Apple products. He's been in constant development for decades - and through the entire time, he has stayed nearly bug-free. Marian -
  7. Yeah. Whenever I don't need him, I simply switch him off. Marian -
  8. And yet the last one is the only one I can take seriously or even somewhat respect, even if I may not agree with it. Marian - LOL Rambo: First Blood Part II (Jerry Goldsmith)
  9. I seriously doubt Williams has written 450 songs. Marian -
  10. I wonder De Palma can actually get a good score out of Horner these days. Marian - hoping.
  11. It's quite clear from the Karlin documentary that the theme is an old tune. I've never heard it myself. Is it really exactly the same, or did Goldsmith do small variations? I'm wondering because there are a few intervals in it that sound like genuine Goldsmith. Marian - who needs this on CD.
  12. You have proved your superior intellect and defeated the plans of Mr. Breathmask. Marian - Capricorn One (Jerry Goldsmith)
  13. If Korngold were alive, I'm afraid he'd have had his own PotC score rejected. Marian -
  14. This is a good occasion to reemphasise the comment about watching movies on the big screen from that Kubrick discussion in another thread. Marian -
  15. And I didn't even notice it. I guess the constant Wagner, Prokofiev and RVW rips had distracted me. Marian - who found the score absolutely unremarkable and without any significance for the movie.
  16. I say it again: I can't see Doyle using Williams themes and still writing good music in the process. It just doesn't fit. However, he's a great composer in his own right, so I'm looking forward to this score very much. Marian -
  17. Buy a projector. Marian - who paid less for his projector than he paid for his TV.
  18. Slow, yes. But dull? No way. Marian - thinking a Williams 2001 score might sound a bit like North's anyway.
  19. An amazing score. If they'd create more stuff like that, I wouldn't be as anti-MV. Marian - who heard bits of Sinbad and thought they were dangerously close to the MV edge. 8O A Bigger Bang (The Rolling Stones)
  20. A shorter description for MV would ba "a music factory". Marian - who so far only knows one Gregson Williams score he likes (and that's one more than for most other MV guys). 8O Take a Hard Ride (Jerry Goldsmith)
  21. I'm shocked to learn you didn't have that CD before. After all, it does have Fireworks. Also, Christus Apollo was written by Ray Bradbury, with whose work you probably are not entirely unfamiliar, assuming you have seen Farhenheit 451 or one of the Moby Dick movies. Marian - who likes this CD but hasn't listened to it in a long time (except Fireworks on occasion).
  22. I still haven't seen the last third of Day 3. Marian - who re-watched Meet Joe Black tonight.
  23. When it comes to North, I'd say among the people of this board Morn pretty much is an authority. Marian - who found Cleopatra tougher than Spartacus... but then, I've only seen half the movie and don't have the CD.
  24. It's a tough score to be sure, but that doesn't make it a bad score. It's very complex and very harsh, but rightfully ranks as one of the greats. Oh, and be careful with Cleopatra... as far as I remember, Spartacus qualifies as easy listening in comparison. Goldsmith and Townson wanted to do a re-recording of Spartacus for Varese, but Goldsmith declined when they couldn't bring up enough money for decent rehearsals. Marian - who'd like a good Spartacus release.
