10 most HORRIBLE things DUMMIES say 'bout film music...
Dean1700 replied to Maraquesh's topic in General Discussion
We've all had some idiot give us a strange look when they find out the type of music we like/prefer but I want to know does it give us "nerds and weirdos" a greater appreciation for the effort and talent to write/conduct such scores? Also does it give us a greater appreciation of music in general than those who prefer those "other forms" of music? Is it a case of these people just hearing and preferring the lyrics over the music and as such relegating the music to the background? -

Top 10 Television Episode scores (possible spoilers!)

I love this music. It's so moving and beautiful and I want to cry every time I watch the episode. Do you know if this cue or score is available? -

Something that is missing off the list. Walking into the record store and asking for a CD soundtrack, in this instance War Of The Worlds, then having the dummy behind the counter say "Yes. We have that." then points out the Jeff Wayne's Musical Version. You then mutter under your breath how much of an idiot he really is. -
One theme I was looking at including was the Throne Room before going into the Imperial March. It seems like it would be a good transition but who knows how it'll sound once I start.

This is just an idea at the moment but I am thinking about making my own definitive version of the Star Wars end titles to cover all six movies. I know of two themes I want to use so far and was interested in peoples thoughts about what themes should be included and the order they should be in.

Good choice but I definitely love AOTC finale and end credits. Pure magic.

I went for Saruman. Soooo much better. "A new power is rising. Its victory is at hand" As I have said in a previous post Count Dooku is a redundant character who doesn't move the story foward at all. Good to see Lee's star rising to even greater heights than ever before. Seems to be very in demand now.

Far and Away Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Home Alone Home Alone 2 Hook Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Jaws Jaws 2 JFK Jurassic Park Jurassic Park - The Lost World Midway Minority Report Patriot, The Poseidon Adventure, The Raiders of the Lost Ark Saving Private Ryan Schindler's List Space Camp Superman Terminal, The Towering Inferno, The Witches of Eastwick -
I voted for Darth Maul. He rocks. It's just a pity he doesn't rock passed TPM. Dooku is a redundant character and served no real purpose to push the story forward at all. Darth Maul should have been carried over to Ep III and ended with the two apprentices (Maul and Skywalker) doing combat on the bridge of the cruiser. With Anakin dispatching Maul it would be seen as a passing of the torch.

WHat is the highest selling soundtrack? Titanic? Star Wars? Grease (any soundtrack that is comprised without a musical score and purely of songs is not a soundtrack in my opinion)? Any one know for sure?

I have this cue, which is often referred to as "Inside The Mothership" but to me it seems that there is only 10 seconds or less missing. The cue was taken from the CD "JW and The BP: Space and Time" (but the cue was also released in Australia in 1984 on a LP called "1984: A Space Odyessy - JW and The BP"). I can't tell you if they are the same recoreding as on other CD's but they appear to be the same on the two I have mentioned above. I've already mixed this cue into the OST to make a "Special Edition" version as well as leaving out the unreleased cues. The missing few seconds is at the start of the cue when Roy begins the walk up into the Mothership. I figured it was only a few seconds and, unlike some other board members, I can live with that. 8O "It looks like it went right after the huge swell, and before the build back up where the ship takes off... is that correct? anyone know?" Yes, this is the correct area but remember to place it BEFORE the music where Lacombe uses the hand signals to the Visitor Leader.

I definitely like this box a whole lot more than the first. What about the cover inserts though? Do they still have the same crappy looking covers or has he changed these to match the box? Hell, I may even CONSIDER buying it. Dean still waiting for the untampered versions. -

Surely you jest, Drax. I'm looking forward to the LOTR release. It is one of the best scores to have come out in a while. One of my more recent favourites. -
From what I have read James Horner banged out Aliens in something like 12-13 days!

I was lucky enough to get the Decca expanded Raiders from a shop in Penrith (Sydney, Aust) back in 97-98. The shop closed a long time ago but they had some bloody great and rare scores there. I also got Red Dawn, CEOTTK and the deluxe 2 disc Gettysburg set there as well. Hopefully with Raiders being 25 next year HE will re-release the scores again. woo hoo. 300 posts. -

Actually Greg, I think Stef has gone off the rails and replied to your post mistakenly when he was meant to reply to the one above by "robthehand" -
