I'm with Morlock in that several key characters were under-utilised especially Morgan Freeman. I enjoy the film and it is a good counter point to the issue of slavery that is so prevalant in the southern US states.

Yes but I don't believe it is entirely accurate. (See my first post)

Some of the various sites that list isolated scores on DVD's are less than accurate to say the least. Some have Toy Story 2 listed as having an isolated score but having watched it found no score, only a music featurette. I know DVD features differ from region to region but most are usually the same. What DVD's have the members here taken scores from?
-
I've just ripped the isolated score from Alien and would now like track titles for them. Is there specific titles that I should be using?

Hey LS, they look great. I'd go with the first cover though and I would also match the Rhino cover as well. Can I get a copy when finished?
-
You lucky bastard. Never have that sort of luck here in Oz.

It's about bloody time Bill Conti started getting some more exposure. Too few of his scores are available and I think he is highly under-rated although his scores do seem extremely short. I just wish they would release Victory and a full version of The Right Stuff

each of these two CD's? Born On The Fourth Of July complete score; and Cinderella Liberty/The Reivers I know where I can get them and was wondering if I should but I don't know how much I should pay for them if I do?

Will anyone add one of these to their DVD collection?

Man, I can't believe all the negative waves here, man. This is way too heavy. I have to disagree strongly with many here. I really enjoy the film and the music. But I have always loved to read about the Titanic so liking this film was almost a certainty, although when I first heard that it would be a love story it almost made me throw up. But I think JC (thats James Cameron, not the other JC) really made it work in the film. I'll be getting the version with the most discs in it when is comes out. Unlike that pathetic Pearl Harbour and its version of a love story around cataclysmic events which DID make me vomit. -
No. I have never done this. Should I?

No! Not Jimmy Doohan as well. Forever travelling beyond the stars

I don't expect to hear any patriotic music at all. Saving Private Ryan is a perfect example in this case. The music was very subdued and slow despite there being a number of action scenes. There were moments where this film could have been used to push the AMERICANA theme but I think the film would have lost most its appeal had it been scored differently. It was first and foremost a human story and therefore needed an emotional attachment in the form of the music. Scoring a film with patriotic music removes that emotion and the film becomes nothing more than an action film instead of a true life drama. If called upon to do it JW will know EXACTLY how to score it and OS will trust in his composer whom he regards so highly. Besides I would find it hard to argue about music with someone who has 5 Oscars, 43 nominations, 16 Grammys, 53 Grammy nominations and 3 Golden Globes. He must know what he's doing.

The best 9/11 "score" I've heard so far was from a 9/11 documentary or short film on TV. It showed B&W pictures (photos) of people falling down accompanied by sparsely scattered, hard piano notes in a random manner (no melody). It was genius. The bodies, while still in mid-air, were amazingly graceful and each time a piano note played it felt like an emotional deep cut. It was disturbing. It was terror and beauty. It was as shocking as seeing the towers collapse for the first time and all they showed were photographs. No movie can evoke the same kind of emotion. --------------- Alex Cremers I think I know what you're talking about. I think this was In Memorium: New York City, which aired in Australia on September 11th, 2002. It was very much set around Mayor Giuliani and his cabinet. The music you described in this part was very Herrmann-esque. In fact, Bernard Herrmann and many other composers are credited at the end. I'll have to have a look at it again. I see you taped it as well Drax. I have tried to get as much video of it as I can find. I even have a copy of the first few hours (although poor quality) from a fellow who had recorded. As far as Stone making a film it is still very fresh in everyone's memory but it IS history now. As long as he treats the story with the dignity it deserves he shouldn't be prohibited from making it. He will not need to go into depth about the terrorists since it will be a "human drama". As such I expect we will hear some sad haunting music for it.

Remember, Vader only knew of Luke until their final encounter in the Emperors throne room and only after Luke himself found out he had a sister. If he knew Luke was his son in TESB why then didn't he know about Leia?
-
Because a true Jedi doesn't kill just because he doesn't like the look of a particular life form. I'll leave that up to the likes of you, Darth Stefancos, you evil doer.

Sure why not. Thats why I chose it. Because I know everyone hates JJB and I am surprised that no one else has said anything yet. LOL

Okay. Clones then. Just for you, Stef.

Naturally I know that had Obi Wan killed anakin out of mercy the story may have finished there. Maybe GL should have had Obi Wan about to do this but gets interrupted by some imperial droids coming to Anakin's aid. Sounds plausible to me.

I know I'm a bit behind in seeing this but all the hype about this film almost killed it for me. Certainly this film is by far the largest in so much as scale goes and is definitely the best of the prequals. I thought seeing Palpatine sporting a sabre and doing a jedi "waltz" was pretty flash. His and Yoda's fight really kicked ass. But the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was the creme de la creme. It was what the prequals were building up to from the beginning of TPM since it was what everyone was waiting for and I wasn't disappointed. I did leave the theatre with some questions though and some disappointments as well. Why has Captain Antilles and Captain Colton remained at the same rank for 20 year plus? It was good to see that Captain Colton made an appearance and played by Jeremy (Boba Fett) Bullock too (In the novelisation of Star Wars C-3PO says their last master was Capt Colton). Why was there no scene with Anakin and Padme where Anakin senses (only one of the twins) a boy and says that when he is older he will give him his lightsabre and teach him about the force? This would have made the scene in Ben's home where he pulls Anakin's sabre from his trunk more relevent. And why did Obi Wan not kill Anakin out of mercy when he caught on fire? Also Padme's death scene was surely one of the worst death scenes I have seen. I would have also liked to have seen Bail Organa's wife crying with the baby in her arms since what Leia remembers of her "mother" is that she was sad. And also Owen admonishing Obi Wan for bringing Luke to them, leaving them with so heavy a burden. This also sets up Owen's dislike for Ben. I thought the climax of two sabre battles between Palpatine/Yoda and Obi Wan and Anakin should not have been intercut together as I thought it detracted from the Anakin/Obi Wan duel. There was one moment where I think the editor could have done a better job and this is where Padme is going into her death throws. This occurs after Vader himself crys in agony which then cuts to Padme's scream. It might have been better if Padme had screamed first with Vader sensing this and cries in agony immediately afterwards. Lastly I think it would have been good to see Vader turn away from watching the Death Star construction in the same way he does (hands behind his back and head slightly bowed) when he watches the Millennium Falcon escaping at the end of TESB. This would infer that he doesn't care about the Death Star since he is still dwelling on the loss of Padme. These are just my thoughts anyway. But overall a hell of a film. Good stuff. BTW why the hell didn't GL kill off JJB?

Favorite (NOT BEST) alien invasion score
Dean1700 replied to David Coscina's topic in General Discussion
My vote goes to ID4 because I don't have WOTW and have not heard it yet. David Arnold's score is pure magic and is a enjoy to listen to. -
Is John Williams Your Favorite Film Composer?
Dean1700 replied to SturgisPodmore's topic in General Discussion
Since there are more John Williams CD's in my collection (about 45 in total) than any other composer (nearest is James Horner at about 20) I could safely say yes he is. -
I don't have it yet and have not seen it but it IS on the "to buy" list.

I found something new in the Star Wars Special Edition (that is Episode IV Star Wars-A New Hope for the Episode fans) that I hadn't seen before and I don't know if it has been mentioned yet so forgive me if it has. I borrowed my brother's 2004 DVD copy of Star Wars tonight and was watching some of my favourite scenes. Our heroes had just escaped from the Trash Compactor and had just arrived at the viewing station over the Millennium Falcon and Leia says "You came here in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" But wait! What was that? Something is not right here. So away I went and whipped out the 1997 VHS version and checked the same scene. Yup. It's the same as the 2004 DVD's. So I then went to my 1995 VHS original cinema release version and checked that seen again. It IS different. The Millennium Falcon has been switched. In the 95 version it shows the Falcon as the original 5ft version however, with the release of the 97 Special Edition the Falcon was switched for the 32in Empire Strikes Back version and remains so in the DVD's So why the change? Because the "action" is to the centre of the screen it is not noticeable and is only seen in the widescreen versions. When the 5ft Falcon was built it had to be mounted from various positions for different camera angles. The mounts were located on the bottom (Gunner's station), at the rear, on the left and right sides and at the front (actually two mounts, one in each mandible). All these points were hidden under removable sections of the models detail. Now, watching the 95 version look closely at the front of the mandibles and you see the reason why it was changed. Some twit forgot to cover the mandible mount on the right side. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
