  1. It has to be CEOT3K. I might be a bit biased in this decision because I saw 2001 in the early 80's when I was in my teens. At the time I didn't find it overly interesting and may not have understood it properly. I haven't seen it again. The only part that really catches my attention is the first part with the apes from there it be comes very slow, is very sterile and uninteresting. As far as CEOT3K goes I really enjoy the 1980 Special Edition which is the first version I saw. I have both the video and the DVD of the film and normally I would get rid of the VHS copy once I have it on DVD but this is one of the movies I will not be parting with. There is just so much more to the characters than in 2001 that it holds your attention for much longer. The most beautiful part of this movie is JW's music the ending of which I think is one of the Maestros best achievements. I also agree with equinox that you really cannot compare these two films. It is like comparing apples with oranges.
  2. I was just curious as to what everyone would think of a Special Deluxe edition of Superman and Superman II. Should they replace the now outdated effects in favour of digital compositing and CGI effects and finding the longest possible print of each one that includes all delete scenes? I know that I am an original Star Wars fan who doesn't like the tampering that George has done with HIS film but I'll also admit that some of the new effects looked pretty spekky (love the blast off of the Falcon). Should Warner Bros do the same? BTW any update MUST include JW's missing cues. I'll say yes to this.
  3. But 80's people would be glad if the 2000's were over so they can go back and have their 80's music back. Dean - who believes the 80's were the best years for popular music.
  4. Makes as much sense as Lois Lane who can't tell Clark Kent is Superman with glasses  K.M. You're not suggesting that Darth Sidious wears glasses to avoid being recognised as Palpatine are you?
  5. Gettysburg 2 disc Commemorative Edition Here's an update. Chronological Order 1. Main Title 2. Pickett?s Complaint* 3. Dawn 4. Men of Honour 5. Gettysburg Revisited* 6. Buford?s Decisive Determination* 7. The First Battle 8. Old Friends* 9. Fife and Gun 10. Killer Angel 11. Battle Of Devil?s Den 12. We Are The Flank 13. Charging up the Hill 14. They?re Coming Again* 15. Refuse the Line* 16. Soldier?s Irony and Close Call* 17. Battle for Little Round Top 18. Kathleen Mavourneen (source music) 19. We will Prevail* 20. Kilrain?s Ride* 21. Reunion and Finale (end part) 22. From History To Legend 23. Fremantle and Armistead* 24. Message from Alexander* 25. Over the Fence 26. Hancock and Kemper are Hit* 27. Armistead is Hit* 28. General Lee at Twilight ? unsure 29. General Lee?s Solitude ? unsure 30. Reunion and Finale 31. The Gettysburg Address* * Disc 2 track UNKNOWN To The Queen Dixie NOT USED IN FILM Track 17 Disc 1 March to Mortality This track may have been replaced by an edited/looped version of Track 3, Disc 1, Battle For Little Round Top when Gen. Armistead marches past the Confederate cannons. Track 15, Disc 2, The Gettysburg Address Not used but a nice little addition by Jeff Daniels END TITLES Track 18, Disc 1, Reunion and Finale. This track is actually 2 seperate cues and does not match the film version. The disc version is correct up with the film until the end of the music for the coda. The second part of this track actually appears earlier in the film when Gen. Lee is mobbed by his men when riding his horse. The film version of the Reunion and Finale then matches the disc version up the the end of the coda which is then looped up to where the Gen. Lee track would start on the disc version. From here the cue then segues to Kathleen Mavourneen which plays out then plays into Track 1, Disc 1, Main Title commencing several seconds into the track.
  6. That's what annoyed me about TPM. The movie actually started halfway into the storyline. Why were ther trade Federation blockading Naboo? What did the Naboo do to piss them off? Maybe TPM should have been Episode -3 so that we can see Palpatine's path turn foul and the events leading up to the Clone Wars then have Episodes 1-3 on a more indepth telling of the Clone Wars and Anakin's fall from grace.
  7. Williams doesn't always score for the action. The standout exception to the rule is Saving Private Ryan where He went in the opposite direction and scored to capture the emotion. I'd expect that Schindlers List was scored the same way as well. In a movie that is more about the raw human emotional element that emotion would be lost if the action sequences were scored.
  8. Now you know why they probably haven't been fully discussed here.
  9. I would definitely put Peter Weir in the top 10. Check out some of his early Australian films like Picnic At Hanging Rock and Gallipoli (with a young Mel Gibson). More great films are of course Witness and The Truman Show I would say my top 5 directors are: Steven Spielberg James Cameron Ridley Scott Clint Eastwood and ROBERT ZEMECKIS (Clint Eastwood? What kinda stoopid name iz zat?).
  10. movieman, This is something I did a while ago and I don't expect it to be accurate but I still would like to get it confirmed by someone else. I am also planning on making a more accurate mix of "Picketts charge" as it is a mix of several over tracks. I have already made a new cue for General Lee when he is mobbed by his men before the charge by editing the last track to Disc 1. If you know where the three tracks at the bottom go let me know. I think March to Mortality is not used in the final cut in favour of a mix of various tracks though. GETTYSBURG Chronological Order 1. Main Title 2. Pickett?s Complaint* (Pickett's complaint??? What complaint?? More like "Federal Cavalry") 3. Kathleen Mavourneen 19. We will Prevail* 20. Kilrain?s Ride*? 21. From History To Legend 22. Fremantle and Armistead* 23. Message from Alexander* 24. Over the Fence 25. Hancock and Kemper are Hit* 26. Armistead is Hit* 27. General Lee at Twilight 28. General Lee?s Solitude 29. Reunion and Finale 30. The Gettysburg Address* * Disc 2 track Where the heck to these tracks go?????? To The Queen Dixie March To Mortality
  11. I'm still looking for the chronological listing for the 2CD Deluxe Gettysburg. Any takers?
  12. Will they do a tribute for Goldsmith alone? No. Why? Because that would be detrimental to the memory of Elmer Bernstein. They MAY do a joint tribute for them together as these two men have been responsible for some of Hollywoods most memorable scores.
  13. Since I only have two JNH score, they being The Fugitive and Dinosaur, I went with Dinosaur. A brilliant score.
  14. Hasn't Alan Silvestri been picked for this?
  15. Great news. I got my copy of The Great Escape yesterday and just in time for my birthday as well. I'll definitely be using Varese again. Spot on service. It's just too bad that there is no certificate or something to acknowledge the fact that it is a limited edition. There is no individual number either.
  16. Happy Birthday Maestro beerchug Three cheers for JW - Hip Hip hooray, Hip Hip hooray, Hip Hip hooray. Dean (whose to JW's now) It must be something about the month of February and great people. John Williams (8 Feb), Jerry Goldsmith  (10 Feb) and me (also 10 Feb)
  17. Well I managed to get my copy of The Great Escape before they ran out. If I read the confirmation correctly they had shipped it already. Goddam. I only ordered it a little over 12 hours ago. 8O
  18. Less than 300 of the Great Escape? Oh crap. I better get in and get mine real quick.
  19. Conan for sure. I love the primevil (spelling) sound of it but pity it is not complete. Total Recall sounds too mechanical for my liking.
  20. Ask him when we can expect to see a COMPLETE Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. He's done it for Star Wars. Why not Indiana Jones? And how much influence do the fans have as far as commerial release soundtracks go?
  21. Henry Jones Sr voice: Blasphemy! You could be banned for that paragraph, or so i have heard.... I agree with you Cool. Then I'd be an outlaw like Stef. LOL
  22. Not at all but I seem to recall, perhaps incorrectly due in part to the OST, music at this part when I watched it on video years ago. It makes the scene very bland.
  23. I just received a Region 1 copy of IJATTOD that I won on Ebay the other day (Australia is Region 4) and watched it last night and this raised some interesting questions. Firstly, has it been discussed previously about some music missing from the Mine Car chase? Just as Willie punches the evil-doer off the cart and falls on to the track causing the others in the cart following behind to derail the music stops and doesn't return until the scene where Mola Ram orders the tunnels flooded. Whats the deal here? Or is it just Region 1 DVD's? Also why did Lucas mess around with Star Wars (again) for it's DVD release and not for Indiana Jones. Did he NOT do this because SS directed them? The only thing that he did for Indiana Jones was to removed th image of the snake reflection in the glass in Raiders. There are many moments in IJATTOD that I am sure could have been enhanced with replacing the effects that were hindered by the technical limitations of the time.
