30 Reasons Raiders of the Lost Ark is a great movie
Dean1700 replied to JoeinAR's topic in General Discussion
I love the ending. Watching the trolley with the crate being wheeled through the warehouse then the camera pulling back revealing all the other crates there. It gets you wondering what else they've got hidden away. -
That is exactly how the Nazis, in particular the Gestapo and SS, were.

I thought the passing of the torch from Fedora to "Indy" was a great moment. It is his first real introduction to archeology because his father never had time for him to show him what archeology is all about. He did learn about many artifacts though through his fathers own work. I didn't like IJATLC for many of the reasons that Joe has listed and then some. My biggest disappointment, as I know it is the same for others, is that GL and SS turned the Nazis into bumbling, incompetent clowns which trivialised the horrors they perpertrated. Lets face it it's only a movie but if every movie showed them like this then the lessons of history will be lost. I can keep going on this subject but will limit myself to just the above. Flamesuit on.

What's your most expensive JW score cd you have?
Dean1700 replied to Antineutrino's topic in General Discussion
For me it was Rhino's Superman at $58 Australian. It would have been a lot cheaper if the exchange rate on the Aussie dollar was getting more than 58 cents US at the time. Next to that is the 2CD Deluxe Commemorative Edition of Gettysburg at $56 AUD. Fortunately I bought this locally. -
Main Title for Superman The Movie (including the Prelude)

This is sad news. The Indian film industry has lost an excellent actor. He was sometimes known as Om Puri and also starred in a lesser known British film City Of Joy with Patrick Swayze where he plays the ricshaw puller Hasari Pal. I really enjoy this movie and is, in my opinion, his best role in a western film. Amrish Puri at rest - Jan 2005

IJATLC: I haven't watched to many films from this genre but when compared to the first two it doesn't come up to scratch. Personally the change in music was a source of disappointment for me. I think Indy should have remained a little more serious as in Raiders rather than the comic style IJATLC was made in. Terminator 3: Just an excuse to milk more money from the cinema going public. A very poor finale to Arnie's career. I thought The Godfather III was great. It was great to see many original faces from the first film there. I thought the ending with the death of Mary was great. After all was said and done nothing hurt Michael more than the loss of his beloved daughter. From that moment on Michael died a slow death.

There's now less than 500 copies remaining of Varese's 2CD The Great Escape. If you want a copy you will need to get in very soon. What are Varese like to deal with? Are they any good?

RCA! I don't particularly like the cover art on the Sony releases but why should I get them when I altready have the same music. But it is always interesting to read notes on any score with them. 8 people - 100%. Hmm, get the feeling that we're trying to tell you something?

Definitely No 1. Sometimes I find myself concentrating on and listening to certain instruments.

Which Williams release is the biggest Godsend?
Dean1700 replied to King Mark's topic in General Discussion
Definitely Superman for me. Before it was released I saw the re-recording and automatically thought it was the original score. I listened to my fav track "Helicopter Rescue" and realised it didn't have the same fullness about it and then I realised it was by John Debney. I put it down straight away and walked out very disappointed. Later when I did see the Rhino release I bought it straight away, from overseas and at a time when the exchange rate made it much more expensive. But how much it cost was nothing compared to how much I have enjoyed it. I love the Prologue intro music and Helicopter Rescue. -
what rock song would u put 2 depict anakin's feelings in ep3

Because my taste in music does not extend beyond film scores I do not know the name of it but it features in the background of Independence Day.. It's the end of the world as we know it.... You get the picture! -
Which JW film was hurt most by further alterations.

Thanks Mr Breathmask. That's a difference of almost 10,000 frames per sec. That was something I wasn't aware of. -

Without, of course. Do you have a PAL speed up to contend with? Neil Yes I do. What is the deal with the PAL system anyway? -
Okay. The influence that George Lucas has had in the film industry has been nothing short of extrordinary. He has been pushing the limits of film making since Star Wars and was the first person to incorporate computer technology into filming the visual effects for SW. He pushed the boundaries with CGI since Return of The Jedi and Young Sherlock Homles. He has made other film companies advance their own techniques to keep pace with changing technology. Without GL many of todays films would not have been possible. There would certainly be no Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi (big loss), Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom/The last Crusade, no Industrial Light and Magic and.. no PIXAR which then means no Toy Story 1 and 2, A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. We'd all be saving our money instead of spending it on hundreds of items of merchandise pumped out by the marketing departments of the studios. We'd all be leading rich and full lives with the fabric of society sewn tightly together and ..... hey.......wait a sec ?!?

Thanks, Digger . I'm especially disappointed there's no complete ToD score. Dean - who's not used to people agreeing with him

This is a no brainer. STAR WARS I cannot choose Superman. Yes the DVD is unwatchable but only because of its short running time and not because of the score, even though sections of JW's grand score are missing. I have probably said it too many times and if that be the case then one more time won't hurt. I copied the movie off the TV in 1986 and that version is still almost 30 mins longer than the DVD and has ALL JW music. -
You do realize that the Original Trilogy would not exist if it weren't for George Lucas? :? Of course... But a lot of fans of star wars hates George Lucas, i´m not the only one I don't hate George Lucas but I disappointed with what he has done and the changes he has made. Sure. We can argue this until the cows come home but hell, if he is going to make changes to Star Wars why stop there. Lets pull out the 1933 King Kong and replace that crappy looking plasticine Kong with a brand new state-of-the-art digital cgi beast. It will still be the same movie right?
-
We all know about the infamous Han/Greedo confrontation and how there is now three different versions of it but has anyone else realised there is another scene that was altered again for the DVD's? I am talking about the scene where Luke, Ben and the Droids are entering Mos Eisley in the speeder. In the 1977 version the speeder zooms over the top of the camera. In 1997 this was upgraded to look "better". For the DVD the speeder now zooms in from the LEFT! WHAT THE ???????
-
Ok I'll fess up. As much a fan of Star Wars as I am I have not committed myself to getting the DVD's and in all probability never will. I have seen the films and their quality which is exceptional but have no want to buy them.

Thanks Morlock.
