Does anyone else have the 32 track Young Guns II score by Alan Silvestri at all? Since it did not come with any track listings I have identified all of the tracks except Track 19, which runs for 2 mins 39 secs. If anyone can help out it would be very much appreciated

Wow. What a surprise this is. Was this expected at all? I thought the new release of TGE was only the general 32 minute version without the dialogue but it appears Varese Sarabande have released two versions of this score. I do realise that this had been arranged before his passing but what a great way to honour Elmer Bernstein than with a more complete version of one of his most memorable scores.

Does a "Kids" movie mean it's also got "kids" music. If not how does it compare with film music? I don't think that just because it is a kids movie that it will have kids music. In a lot of cases I also think that the music from kids films rates extremely well with the rest of the movie music world. I am sure that almost everyone has some music from a kids film in their collection, especially the likes of The Lion King. My collection of kids film music includeds Toy Story 1 & 2, A Bugs Life Dinosaur, Shrek, Chicken Run and a few others that escape me at the moment. What do you think of "Kids" music? And what is in your collection?

I believe this is in Chilean Peso. I worked it out that one Chilean Peco equals about $0.023 cents Australian which if correct works out to be about $161.00 Australian. Geez I hope I got that one right :?

I was torn between the Helicopter sequence and the Chasm scene in ANH. I chose Superman because I felt the Chasm scene starts and continues brilliantly but ends rather flat. I would have actually selected the scene where the heroes get rewarded when Han Luke and Chewie get the medals at the end of ANH if it was there.

We've lost too many excellent composers lately. And the world is a sadder place. My thoughts to his family and his fans.

Sure why not. I know here in Oz they are still dictating to us what they think we should see. LOL What do you want, government intervention? Look, it's too bad that Lucas wants to do all this, but it's his decision, his "vision."

I think all these new changes are further proof that George Lucas is being allowed to destroy a classic. Image if the makers of the 1933 King Kong were to come back and make changes to that one, using a CGI Kong to replace the stop motion model. There would be an outcry from the industry. Ok. George owns everything Star Wars but doesn't 20th Century Fox own the FILM itself? He is only seeing the film that he wants which, unfortunately, is not what the viewing audience wants to see. And how much further is he willing to go before he says enough is enough. I tell you all now when he says "I am happy" he will have disappointed many fans. Thank god I still have the original films on video.

What are my gems? 2cd Gettysburg Deluxe Commemorative Edition Red Dawn (Poledouris) Maybe not everyones idea of gems but they are to me.

Just how popular is this score? Surely who ever at Universal decides what music gets released from their films must realise this is a music is a "must have". By not releasing it they are only missing out on profits that are being directed to the makers of unauthorised versions. Must I be content to make a compilation of the OST, the BTTF Trilogy and Delorean releases to have as much of the film music as possible? Who would be responsible for this outrage? Does anyone else combine multiple CD's for "expanded" score at all?

Does anyone here think that a "TOP GUN" type soundtrack should be considered a soundtrack at all? I am of the opinion that a soundtrack should only be called such if it is the score only, with an occassional song. A CD that features only songs or very little score music, such as the OST Back To The Future, should be called a compilation. Does any one else think differently?

I think drones would be a better word for the Aliens since I think they work similar to the way ants do. I gather their sole purpose is to work to produce more aliens. They do this by finding more hosts for the huggers and by maintaining the Queen who produces the eggs the huggers gestate in. The Predator is an Alien that I don't think hunts for sport but more as a right of passage and that is why I like Predator 2 over Arnie's Predator. You learn much more about the Predator in P2. If the Predator only hunts for sport why did the rest of them not kill Danny Glover when he dispatched the first creature? Did this Predator have to prove himself a worthy creature by finding a human equal to himself and doing battle with him. Just look at the trophy case in the ship. Perhaps they are an elite group of creatures with each one of them taking a trophy and placing it on the wall of the creature they defeated. The thought is interesting.

Jerry Goldsmith was really one of the great composers. My favourite scores of his are Poltergeist, First Blood, Rambo II and Tora Tora Tora. It was Poltergeist that introduced me to Jerry's work and it was amazing. It's a very sad loss and our thoughts are with his family. However, I just found out the date that he was born and I now feel fortunate to know that I share the same date. Jerry will always be alive in our hearts and his music will always play long and loud. Thanks again Jerry.

I'm gonna weigh into this topic by saying if someone decided to make a special edition of the 1933 film King Kong, replacing the jerky stop motion KK with a new CGI creation, would it still be the same movie. Would it still carry the same appeal to it when it did when it was first seen over 70 years ago? Visually, yes it would be the same film but small or minor changes can effect the overall "feel" to the movie. It would feel different in the fact that a certain scene you remember sitting and watching in awe of and how you felt at that moment has been changed and you no longer feel the same emotion or you feel that that emotion has been lost with the scene that has been changed. There are many people who would abhore the changes made to a film considered a classic, whose special effects were at the fore front of technology at the time. And this is the same with Star Wars considered a classic good vs evil flick whose spfx were also at the forefront of technology at the time. For me some of the extra dialogue in the film, using Star Wars as the prime example (C-3PO letting the gang know where the tractor beam is coupled to and the Stormtrooper saying "close the blast door") don't sit right in the Special Editons. Neither does the "Dirty Harry .357 Magnum" blaster sound effects used by Princess Leia during the Chasm fight. On the flip side there were some good things to see included into the films ie The Millennium Falcon's launch from Docking Bay 94, and the launch of the X-wings. I also liked the inclusion of Jabba The Hutt and Luke meeting Biggs before take off since these two scenes were original scenes (albeit with CGI Jabba) dropped from the final cut but I didn't like seeing Boba Fett. While some changes are beneficial others are not and while "revamping" some films can open it up to a new audience, ie Metropolis updated by Giorgio Morodor 1984 (an outstanding version of the film giving greater appreciation for the original), those that do seek to "enhance" old movies risk losing audience appeal or favour.

I have just received an email from someone operating as "Cinemusica" whom I do not remember how I came to received his score updates (possibly from a Ebay query to him) and who offers promo CD's, complete and rejected score as well. One of the latest CD's among other things is Yared's rejected score for Troy. It quotes 18 tracks and is 77 minutes long. Does any else know of him and used his service?

Yeah, why havent we read Morn's concert review? Why wait for Morn? We both went to the same concert on Saturday 2pm. There were very few seats that were empty and by all accounts was very entertaining. Apart from liking the entire score to all three films all my favourites were played in the six movements. Because I had never been to such a performance before Howard Shore's movements whilst conducting appeared strange to the uninitiated. Me. The vocal soloist Katie Noonan performed the vocals that Elizabeth Fraser did on TTT and I thought was extremely good. Unfortunately I missed out on getting his autograph when he arrived about 1 hour before the concert because not five minutes earlier I checked my bag in that had my LOTR cd's that I wanted to get signed. Major Bummer. Although I did get Katie's autograph. And since there was a performance at 8 pm that night also he was staying in his dressing room and wouldn't come out until after that performance. I figured if I hung around the show would finish at 10.30pm he may not get out until 11pm or later then I wouldn't get home until about 2am the next morning which would have been almost 8 hours after the concert I saw finished. Overall a very memorable show. One I wish I could see again.

I feel like the oldest fart on this forum. It seems most members are either mid to late teens or early twenties. I'm from 1967. As for the best decade? Definitely the 80's hence my bias for it. It was a time when JW and Jerry Goldsmith were at their peak with great scores like Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, Poltergeist and First Blood just to name a few. That's not to say they have declined in their abilities since then either.

I was originally going to vote NO because my wife hates ALL my music not just JW. But there are two scores in particular that she absolutely detests and has threatened to destroy them if I play them while she is in the house. Unfortunately they happen to be two of the best scores ever: Jaws and Superman But on another note she'd rather I visit jwfan.net over porn any day. Maybe she doesn't hate the music as much as she hates porn. Pity errrr....about the music that is! LOL Actually after reading all the posts here I think she'd rather I DID look at porn.
