I have an old record that was released here in Australia and would like to know if it is available on CD or if there is a CD equivilant out there. The record is titled "John Williams and The Boston Pops - 1984 A Space Odyssey". It was released here in Australia in 1984 (of course) by J&B Records no. JB177 and contains the following tracks: Superman (Main Theme) ET (The Flying Theme) Battlestar Galactica Star Trek (The television Main Theme) Return Of The Jedi (Parade of Ewoks) 2001 - A Space Odyssey Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (suite) Star Wars (Main Theme) The Empire Strikes Back (The Asteriod Field) Star Trek (The Motion Picture main theme) Twilight Zone Raiders Of The Lost Ark Alien (Closing Title) Return Of The Jedi (Forest Battle) Interestingly the Close Encounters suite contains the cue Inside The Mothership. Also it was released some years later as just "John Williams and The Boston Pops - A Space Odyssey" Was this released as a CD anywhere. Also I believe there is a CD called "Space and Time" by JW and BP. Is this the CD equivilant of the above and does anyone have a track listing for this? Thanks

LOTR scores to receive complete releases in 2004!!
Dean1700 replied to Incanus's topic in Tolkien Central
I'll try and ask him when I go to the LOTR Symphony next month. -
This post has been prompted by a previous post. Has anyone else noticed the missing cue of music from the complete Independence Day score? The music is from the scene where Randy Quaid's character Russell Case is flying towards the Alien ships main weapon and he tries to fire his last missile. The missile malfunctions, arming itself but does not release so Russell Case deliberately, and quite heroically, flies into the weapon itself thereby destroying the ship. I have the World Record World 006 "Complete Score" and this cue is NOT featured. Is this a result of the last minute change to the films original ending that saw Russell fly his 1930's vintage bi-plane into the Alien ships weapon with a "borrowed" missile strapped to the side of it? This ending was changed as a result of feedback from preview audiences. Any one care to hazard a guess on this?

Dean1700 replied to Dean1700's topic in General Discussion
Well, I have just booked my ticket for the LOTR Symphony for Saturday 19 Jun starting at 2pm. This is going to be a great experience, even better if I can get to see HS after the show. Roll on 19th June -

This has been anticipated by fans of LOTR in Australia for many months now. Howard Shore WILL conduct the LOTR Symphony with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by the Sydney Philharmonic and Sydney Children's Choirs, an emsemble of over 250 performers, in the magnificent Sydney Opera House. His performance dates are 17, 18 June at 8pm and Saturday 19 June at 2pm. I'll see all you aussie fans there.

Superman - Salkind International Cut
Dean1700 replied to Unlucky Bastard's topic in General Discussion
I also have the extended version that Drax below refers to (am in Sydney, Aust also). It was shown on Channel 10 in late 1986 and I taped it onto Betacord at the time, later re-taping it onto VHS for longevity. It is approx 173 mins long (without commercials!) which is still 20 plus minutes longer than the current DVD version which is the third release of the film here in Australia. Past incarnations of Superman onto video have been 129 mins, 137 mins and the current 143 mins (approximations only). The "extended" TV version has those scenes included into it that appear on the DVD as "Deleted Scenes" and others which aren't on the DVD anywhere. In my opinion it is far superior to the current DVD version, if not in quality, and I refuse to buy the DVD until its length equals or betters the extended version I have. Of course I'll change my mind if I find it for $5 BUT i'll only get for the isolated score (not that I need it since I have the Rhino release!) I also stumbled onto a superman website long ago that said there was an even longer version of 3 Hours plus. I'd like to see that. -
Randy Edelman... starting with Gettysburg
Dean1700 replied to diskobolus's topic in General Discussion
I only have two of Randy Edelman scores. They are Last of the Mohicans with Trevor Jones and the 2CD Commemorative Edition of Gettysburg and both of them are, in my opinion great scores but I would choose Gettysburg over Last of The Mohicans. I find Gettysburg to be a much more powerful score, especially the music for the battle scenes and like some other scores I never tire from hearing it -
Hey all, What DVD's do you have in your regions have isolated scores on them? Here in Australia we have Glory, Last Of The Mohicans, Inspector Gadget II, Alien (original 20th anniversary release, not in new Quadrilogy), Mars Attacks and The Witches of Eastwick. Does any one know if there are any good programs to rip these onto CD?

woo hoo. I got me a copy of The Fury 2cd. Haven't seen the film but who cares I got it off Ebay at a good price too....and in Austrlia to boot.

I really don't give care how much it costs. I'm going to be there and I'll be waiting at the back door for HS to come out, maybe get a signature or two. Does the Sydney Opera House have a back door?

Will Australia see Howard Shore conducting an LOTR concert in Sydney, Australia? This is the question that has been doing the rounds of some members here in Australia. After a few phone calls I spoke with someone who informed me that negotiations are presently underway that would eventually see Howard Shore come to Australia to conduct the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House sometime in June this year. I have been told to keep a watch in the papers for information. It's highly likely that this will happen and when it does this could be a sell out concert. This could be the first time a concert like this has been staged with the original composer at the helm (please correct me if I'm wrong). Guarrantteed if/when this does happen I will be there no matter what.

Personally, I don't really have many of MK's scores but I know his talent will be sorely missed by many others. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the Kamen family. Thanks for the wonderful music Michael. Cheers.

This film has been released in its extended format for a couple of years so this isn't exactly breaking news. Even here in Australia. In fact I got this one just the other day. And yes while there are numerous inaccuracies in the historical side of things it was meant to encourage people to read more about the event itself. Having then bought several books to know more about what happened myself but none compare to Jim Garrison's own book on the subject. I also love Williams' use of the Royal Scottish Dragoons.

Williams most "sweeping" cues compilation.
Dean1700 replied to King Mark's topic in General Discussion
WHAT? No Binary Sunset from SW Episode IV? :? Not very happy -
This one is too easy. It has to be the Superman march, as long as it includes the prologue cue. Truly one of the best single pieces of music I have heard. It is such a heroic and positive score that you can't help feeling good when you hear it. Two thumbs up

Does anyone know if there is a way to persuade / convince JW (The Maestro) to come to Australia to do a concert? The US has been extremely fortunate to have JW playing over the US for many years and I would like to start a campaign that would see him do a tour of the great land of Australia playing a variety of all his great music he has scored. Ideas anyone?

That's the one. Many thanks Neil. Mine has the original style STAR WARS title centred at the bottom of the poster as mine does not include the credits at the bottom. Do you know what it's worth?
