My wife and I saw it last weekend and while we both enjoyed it I thought it lacked originality. I suppose I compared it too much to the western genre of cowboys and indians but there was also alot of influence in the vehicle designs from Aliens too. While the effects were certainly amazing I thought that the film lacked some back story to how humans discovered the Na'vi, how they thought up the idea of the Avatars and how the Na'vi found out about them and why they didn't see them as a threat yet found humans to be a threat. For me it was like many who went to see Titanic and, because of the hype, left the cinema expecting more than what was offered (I make this comparison because I know many felt there was too much hype around Titanic but I absolutely loved it so there is no bias in my above statement) There should be more Poll options too, such as: "Yes, I saw and FREAKING LOVED IT. IT'S THE BEST MOVIE EVER" "Yes, I saw it and it's a great movie" "Yes, I saw it and it's a good movie" "Yes, I saw it and...MEH. It's okay" "Yes, I saw it and I wish I could get the 3 hours of my life." "No, I haven't seen it but am busting a gut to see it." "No, I haven't seen it but will see it when the hype dies down a bit first." "No, I haven't seen it and will wait till it comes out on DVD before I do" "No. Why should I even waste my time with this crap?"

From page one of the BTTF Was There thread: I've decided to mix the score track Tension: The Kiss with Earth Angel as an alternative and have just found that the last part of that track (Tension) is already mixed in with Earth Angel already. Both tracks as heard in the film are shorter than the CD tracks (Earth Angel in 3 minutes long) and only runs for about 2 minutes on screen but with the extended Tension track my mix comes out to about 2 mins 22 secs. I can live with this. The whole sequence, as done by me, goes: Earth Angel 0:00-0:45 (complete fade out) 0:00-0:45 Tension: The Kiss 0:00-0:55 (complete fade out) 0:45-1:40 Earth Angel 2:20-end (fade in from 2:10 overlaying from 1:30) 1:40-2:22 (Timings are all approximates only) Many people may not like this but I think it works out quite well.

Does anyone have the combined order for the songs and score of Shrek (the first movie)?

I think this reboot is going to kill the Spiderman franchise unless they completely re-invent Spiderman. Even then I don't think it will be anywhere near as good as the first or second film but the third was just utter tripe.

Finally, mine has arrived as well.....only problem now is I am not at home to listen to it and enjoy it. Damn it. There's always some thing. Oh well, at least I'll have something at home waiting for me when I finish work tonight...apart from my very beautiful wife that is. I sympathise, but I would always put my wife before any music! Anyway, when you do get 'round to listening to it, you'll love it. Not in this case. The wife will have to wait as she'll be asleep when I get home at near 1am. When I get home I'll be having something to eat and listening to it. I haven't heard it yet and I love it already.

I'll probably agree when I eventually get mine! At least I'm not the only one still waiting. My copy was shipped out on December 23. I reckon I should have it by the end of the 1st week in January.

Another actor who also died recently (3 Dec 09) was Richard Todd who played Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC, DSO, DFC in The Dam Busters. Tragically 2 of his 3 sons both committed suicide involving firearms in 1997 and 2005. R.I.P. Will throw on The Dam Busters when I can in memory.

Sad news Gene Barry, who played Dr Clayton Forrester in the 1953 film The War Of The Worlds and who also cameoed in Steven Spielberg's War of The Worlds, died on Wednesday age 90. R.I.P.

Well, SAE have just put on their website that they will be receiving more Back To The Future pressings by the end of December which basically told me I won't be seeing mine until sometime in the new year. Crap.

I have also pretty much discarded any attempt at trying to edit the End Titles and may just go for a straight DVD rip. The hardest thing was to try and get a good transition between the tracks for Track 17 - Back To Titanic. The transition from A Life So Changed to Rose is only tempered by the fact that the album version of Rose has an alternate intro to what is heard in the film. The transition from Rose to Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave tested my patience more than once. In the end I got a meagre, although acceptable, version of the last track heard in the film and until the is released as heard in the film this will have to do (unless I can do a better DVD rip).

I'd like to see Silvestri's Young Guns 2 get a proper release. Also: The Abyss Episodes 1 and 2 Ultimate editions Conan The Barbarian Complete score Back To The Future 2 and 3 Complete scores Nothing special here though.

I just ordered my copy of BTTF from SAE but I may not see it before xmas because it takes a long time for anything to get to Australia. But at least I have it coming. I was very tempted to also get the 2 disc The Fugitive as well but I thought "Nah. Back To The Future is the one I want NOW"!

Actually I think it flows surprisingly well and even with my edits it's still not a "hack" job. I thoroughly enjoy the tracks by themselves on the cd but I also enjoy listening to the music with my edits just as much.

This score is next on my list to edit as I want to edit together a short section of A Building Panic into The Sinking thereby joining that and Death of Titanic together making one extended track as well as making a film version of the ending. With the end of the year fast approaching I think we should look back and review some of the most exciting releases for 2009. Obviously Back to The Future is one of them. What else was released, that in your mind, was a great release?
