The violent sport/game scene was really good.

Agreed. While they often felt wooden and odd (like George himself), they were always strangely watchable. OTOH, I can't stomach The Rise Of Skywalker.

Breakfast In America is obviously their masterpiece. Funny, I always preferred Roger Hodgson over Rick Davies and now I learn (through this video) that he was the Beatles fan while Rick Davies was more into rock blues music. I've said this before, but all the artists that I've liked in my life were a fan of the Beatles or started a band because of The Beatles. Paul MaCartney said The Logical Song was the best song of that year and that must have been quite an honor for Hodgson. Anyhoo ... I don't know if people remember this but a gazillion years ago this weird Fleetwood Mac song entered the charts ... And apparently ... it's still a thing! The '70s were definitely the most musically diverse, open-minded decade for popular music.

Okay, okay, let's call it just a "ride" then! Saw it at home and I don't remember being troubled by the aspect ratio.

It has all the elements of a theme park ride ... but a theme park ride a la Eggers. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first Eggers movie that short attention spanners are going to like.

With The Witch I didn't know where it was going while The Northman is more like a wild theme park ride. There's lots of excitement and violence, and the pace is too fast for it to be an atmospheric piece, which some wrongly claim this movie is all about.

The VVitch for me, because I didn't care for the second and 'drunken' part of The Lighthouse. Also, it reminded me a bit too much of The Servant.

The Northman (2022) The most disappointing Eggers movie to date. It's a Liam Neeson revenge flick set in the Viking era. All the cliches are present as well. 5/10

Gave up during the first episode. Too lawyer-ish and characters I don't care for.

Is the new ABBA just as good as the first ABBA? No? Well, it's going to be the same with Spinal Tap II.

Gave up on Russian Doll 2. Season 1 was much better. I realize they had to do something different this time but what they came up with is not very interesting.

It arrived on Netflix today so I might try an episode. I watched Big Little Lies S1, Nine Perfect Strangers and Mr. Mercedes.

I used to know someone who, when his dog dies, immediately buys another one of the same breed ... and he gives him the same name too (Albert). Dog owners are weird!

It was a complete non-event to me (and I loved his previous movie) so I'd say there's no reason to be scared. In a way Midsommar is more like a dark comedy with horror elements. Some people like that movies walk a fine line between comedy and horror but I'm not one of them. I didn't like Jordan Peele's Us (of the same year) either. Then again, movies can be different things on different days, so maybe a second watch will change my point of view. But so far, I don't feel the movie is inviting me to see it again.

Windfall (2022) Feels a bit like a stage play. It's somewhat boring during the first half (Is it a comedy? Is it a thriller? It seems to be not much of either) but it gradually gets better after that. Lilly Collins is not bad looking though ...

I never listened to Zimmer's score on its own but it doesn't do anything for me in the movie, which is funny, because I think Vangelis' score is the heart and soul of Ridley Scott's movie. And vice versa! The music can't live without the imagery it is written for either. Scott wanted to make a fun comic book movie. Vangelis, however, saw the beautiful sadness. Somehow they created a perfect marriage.
