Merkel, I never met you. I don't know you but somehow something is telling me you regard Alien 4 as a masterpiece, am I right? And in overall context of the essence of the alien you believe Alien 1 is the weakest of them all, is that not so? ---------------- Alex Cremers

Today I have found 4 CDs with music of John Williams. They are labeled with a sticker saying "new"! There were very cheap too. Needless to say I bought them. Am I lucky or what? 1. Cinderella Liberty/The Reivers Cinderella Records 2. The Towering Inferno Tower Records 3. Far and Away Vol.2 Concorde 4. The Witches of Eastwick Eastwick Records ---------------- Alex Cremers

Well, I could live with it if they copy the E.T. stunt. 1 DVD original release digitally mastered from a new print 1 DVD director's cut (if you must) 1 DVD bursting with goodies, extras, etc. And all this should be yours if you turn in your normal Alien DVD. Yeah, then I could live with it. ---------------- Alex Cremers

It was the only part that caught my attention. By the way, Palpatine...hahahaha...you mean the Emperor, right? Palpatine!!! What a typo! Hahahahaha!!! ---------------- Alex Cremers

That's putting it mildly. We've made a better ROTJ during those 3 years in our minds than George could ever make. ---------------- Alex Cremers

Another movie with a director's cut. Stop tempering with the classics! I never ever heard Ridley complain about the original cut before and I'm a major fan of the movie since its first release. This smells fishy! The deleted scenes I've seen so far should stay deleted deservedly so. It's obviously another attempt to make a few bucks. A petition should be held. Sad news this is. ---------------- Alex Cremers

They're actually both good to have. But if ever forced to do a "Sofie's choice" I would definitely choose the 1975 MCA release which is one of the better things Williams wrote. The themes are more developed in the re-recording. It took me a while before I could appreciate the Decca true original music because I loved and knew the other so well. It's a petty Shawn went a bit overboard with the bass mixing on the album. It also a petty the CD box is made of paper which makes it very vulnerable just like the Arista's Close Encounters Collector's Edition. ---------------- Alex Cremers

Here's another one from the man himself: Star Wars is a very difficult film to top. Or something like that. Here's another one from Alex Cremers : A classic is perhaps no more than a lucky shot. Take all the ingredients, put them together and maybe it tastes good. ---------------- Alex Cremers

Wasn't it George Lucas that said: In the end all we'll remember is the music. Or something like that. ---------------- Alex Cremers

Seven Years, The only thing that strikes me as amazing is that some people don't see any difference between the 5 movies. There saying that each movie is as good is the other. They are all equally good. Amazing! I say they're not. I still enjoy talking about Star Wars even though I didn't like 6, 1 and 2. I will probably always be a Star Wars fan even when my opinion about them is slightly negative. Does this makes me an angry person full of hatred? I think (I know) a lot of fans (almost every fan, actually) of the first trilogy is going to see Episode 3 like they did with 1 and 2. That doesn't make them classics, Seven Years. The first one (A new Hope) is a classic (and that's about it I'm afraid) because it was almost unanimously loved by movie-goers and film critics all over the world. A classic is also responsible for renewing or changing the way films are resulting with lots of other movies trying to copy its look, feel, acting, message, etc. If a movie stands the test of time, if it can act as a role model, no matter how many years later, then we can speak of a "classic". Episodes 6,1 and 2 don't qualify. Love and discuss the 5 Star Warses as much as you like but please don't tell me not to express my feelings. ------------ Alex Cremers

Although I just bought it and only listened once I liked it almost instantly. Very accessible music! For those who are still hesitating; don't! I even like the other works on it too! Go fetch! ---------------- Alex Cremers

1. Telling a good story means finding a good writer. But that's too late. 4. Indeed, don't let them just stand there reciting words from poorly written dialogue. But that's too late also. 5. It's the accent . Ewan speaks it in a forced manner. No fine performance can be expected from this. Not too late to change since most of the dialogue is recorded afterwards. 6. In fact, don't use any aliens at all. One of the reasons why TESB was good was because it didn't use too many aliens. 7. They always have to compete with themselves. How much good can that bring. Fire the whole ILM staff! It's getting boring. Get Douglas Trumbull, (and pay him well, very well) and we'll finally see something. 8. Hire the old staff to do their old magic with spacebattles again, they did the real eye candy stuff. 9. It's proof Lucas once had The Force. He started out as a filmmaker. Now he's a businessman first. 10. Padme doesn't get guidance. She's not to blame. 14. That's going to be tricky. And will only work for people who think Star Wars is still Star Wars and don't see anything wrong with it. John doesn't get very inspirational material to work with. I think, all things considered, he's doing a better job than most of them. And he's is probably the only man alive that can pull it off. ---------------- Alex Cremers

And why doesn't he post anymore? Are the topics getting boring? Is he too busy with projects? Is he been banned for life? Just wondering... ---------------- Alex Cremers

I haven't listen much to the score but moviewise it's a better attempt than the two previous ones. But yes, about the score. There used to be a time that Williams kept his best scores exclusively for Spielberg. A new Williams/Spielberg score was always exciting. A sure thing! Since Amistad Williams isn't producing his very best so easily any more. Listen to Saving Private Ryan, besides Hymn to the Fallen, what else is there? Ok, AI has its fair share of moments and reminds us how well Williams can deliver. Catch Me If You Can is too monotonous in content to be ranked in a top 10. Minority Report, however not bad, raised more expectations than it could fulfill. Is it the movie? Is it Williams? Is it the times? Is it me? Well, it's probably all that. ---------------- Alex Cremers

Yes I know that ROTJ is very much a seqeuk, not a prequel. The point I was attempting to make is that, though wasn't very successful, was that people who apparently hate what has become of Star Wars devote more of their time to it than I ever have or will. I just find it strange for somone to hate a particilar movie/s yet dwell on it constantly. Ted Mmmmm, these people were once very passionate about Star Wars and then suddenly, SW, as they know it, is taken away from them. This passion for Star Wars is probably still there, but only for Star Wars and not for George Lucas. There has grown a immense difference between the two of them. I've come to learn that not everyone has the ability to see this. Hope this is helpful. ---------------- Alex Cremers

I remember it was in stores during the same time as Earthquake. I listened to both of them but decided to leave the shop empty-handed  . Later I bought Earthquake in a second-hand but The Eigher Sanction never crossed my path again. ---------------- Alex Cremers

What rare soundtrack would you spend the most money on?
AC1 replied to woodwindmaster06's topic in General Discussion
My mother found The Witches of Eastwick (very good condition) in a second hand shop in Boston for ...four (4) dollars. That's right! Some people don't know and don't care. Although I'm a Williams fan I don't always buy everything. I didn't buy Temple of Doom because I disliked the movie. I purchased ROTJ years later because... well, same reason. Same story with The Patriot and HP films. I really believe JW writes better music if the film is better. (there are exceptions, of course) OTOH, I bought Spacecamp (import) when it was in the store, while, back then, I've never heard of the movie before. Maybe it was because of the import sticker, I don't know. It seemed important somehow. ---------------- Alex Cremers -
I'm listening to the Rhino 2 CD set now and it must be said what Stefancos wrote is as close to the truth as you can get. I'm not always agreeing with him but this time there's no way around it. ---------------- Alex Cremers
